One of the best covers of a song ever, recorded on what is otherwise one of the worst albums ever recorded. Get rid of the hideous guitar and this is an ace.
This is the single, different mix and slightly faster than album version. MUCH better organ sound! (Marshall, what happened here?!). Pete Cosey's lead guitar is great; & the drumming is superb! Muddy sounds really jazzed; he's having FUN with the lyrics!
"Don't you worry 'bout what's on MY mind; no, I don't want you to think about it.
I'm 'n no hurry, I can take my time. You know I ALWAYS take it!!"
So, Haxo, did Muddy have any other remarks from your chat with him that you might recall?
I know Muddy hated the "Electric Mud" album, but for us Buddy junkies out there, this is a classic. Takes an okay Rock N Roll song and turns it into something with some teeth to it. I'm sure Mick and Keith felt that, after hearing this version, any version of their's was second rate. Love the wailing at the end..................
Muddy plaid some surprisingly heavy stuff for a blues man from time to time. This is pretty cool. If you dig this, check out the album "After the Rain" it goes Boom.
Definitely the best cover of a Stones classic ever.. & my favorite song on the album...must be played LOUD to get the effect they were trying to achieve ... Muddy w/Marshall/Blue Cheer wall of amps..inside 12"X24" B/W photo of Muddy, 4" pompador, in white robe, holding /playing ultra rare Guild "Gumby"-shaped S-200 Thunderbird guitar... with a wicked "dogshit" eating grin. Man I pity the digital generation.
I know a lot of blues afficionados (and Muddy himself) detested this when it came out, but I love it just like I love heavy blues-rockers like Cream, Humble Pie, Free, Jeff Beck Group, Savoy Brown, Ten Years After...
Agreed. Electric Mud, where this track was lifted, was ill-conceived and Muddy was pressured into it by Chess. He said it himself later: "That record was dogshit!"
...and it might not be any of his finer moments, but I still enjoy it, like the organ intro, the guitar sound and his voice - but then again I never was a Waters expert!
its from a record sleeve by I dont recall her name...or lets see... Ricky-Lee Jones or something in that vain. I think they are just hired models for the sleeve photo, dont know their identities, sorry!
awesome that a blues legend covered a rock bands stuff instead the other way around as was usual (i actually heard this version before the stones both awesome though)

As I recall, Muddy Waters greatly disliked this album. He felt exploited and embarrassed by the whole project.

@HaxoAngmark yes, others have pointed that out too - but I still like this one :-)
jonasjar 3 months ago
@jonasjar — Yes, I must admit I like it a lot too, even if Muddy didn't.

I know Muddy Waters was an inspiration for the Stones. I've never heard his cover of their song before. Wow! I like it.

It is really strange hearing a grown-up perform this spotty teenager's song.
Not one of Muddy Waters' finer moments.
