I LOVE "SNOWBALL" "AWESOME" xoxoxo But, my question is, did anyone notice the bird to the left ?????????? It helped with the acoustics of the birds. Snowball squalked & the other bird chirped before it moved. WAAAAAAAAAAAY to adorable, amazing & funny. I think Snowball & bird in cage should become a group. After all, left cage bird should get some credit as well !!!!!!!!!!
@basspig The African Grey that you see dancing in this video only has one eye. The eye that he does have is not the one facing Snowball, so he's dancing purely for his own enjoyment and not because he sees Snowball dancing. Isn't that interesting?
@BirdLoversOnly Surprising to hear that, but that Grey's behavior is not all that uncommon. They tend to be laid back and inquisitive, but not as wild and flamboyant as the 'toos. Sorry to hear he has only one working eye.
@basspig Yes, Snowball is a rescue bird and he does talk quite a bit when he gets going. He's very opinionated. However, he did come from a very loving home so he's lived a good life.
@BirdLoversOnly That's good to hear. I have a Grey, myself, and am constantly in awe of her intelligence. We're very close, to the point where her hours spent napping on my shoulder exceed her hours spent on her perch and in her cage. We generally let our birds have free reign around the house, as long as they don't get into trouble. The only time I put my birds in their cages is if we're doing something that presented a potential hazard, like construction work. Glad to hear about Snowball!
@bestbudsfurever This bird is a wild-caught bird from Africa. We suspect that he lost his eye during the capture by poachers. It's amazing that he survived as most do not.
@basspig Well there wasn't any Rock music for humans till 60 or so years ago, so they probably got along fine without, it just as humans have gotten along fine without it. They might have danced to the rhythms of the forest though, which is sort of how I think music emerged in humans. Really any type of artistic expression highlights whatever's already in the world or the collective imagination.
LOL, one of those birds off camera sounds like a dying woman, or a dinosaur! What kind of bird was making that anguished cry? If I knew, I might be able to use that for a monster movie some day. XD
@BirdLoversOnly Oh, I got the impression it was coming from off camera for some reason. He may not be able to sing, but he may be able to take a side job in sfx dubbing in addition to his dance career. XD
@Daviktion Cockatoos are the most difficult bird to keep happy in captivity. They can become aggressive, bite right down to the bone (even have the capability of biting through bone if they really wanted), destroy furniture, and scream incessantly for your attention. We encourage anyone interested in getting a cockatoo to contact your nearest bird rescue and apply to foster one of these birds before making a lifetime commitment to one...they have a lifespan of 80 years.
@Daviktion Ooops! I thought you were serious. Most people are serious about getting a cockatoo once they see a funny video like this. Glad you were just joking! (sigh of relief)
@SupNooooobs There are many reasons that cockatoos will throw their crests up: when they are curious, apprehensive/frightened, excited/happy. In this particular case, Snowball has his crest up due to his excitement and happiness over dancing to the music. Each situation has to be analyzed according to what the stimulus is that is causing the behavior.
@BirdLoversOnly I love these birds and WISH I could live with one in my house~~ If I lived alone I might have done it but with a family ~~ don't think it would work :SS
Love what you do with the rescue! They're wild where I live and you can tell, just by watching them in flocks, even if they like humans (and like to get attention from them), they need so much more than people can give... and people don't realize that.
@JBis2fab4u Please don't base your decision to purchase a cockatoo on this video. Cockatoos are the most difficult bird to keep in captivity because they can be incessant screamers, very destructive to furniture, aggressive/bitey, and highly demanding of your time. They are not only expensive to purchase, they are also very expensive to keep...the cost of toys and vet visits alone can put a nice dent in your budget.
@wantanafricangrey There is nothing wrong with disagreeing. However, African Greys do not scream incessantly, suffer from separation anxiety to the degree that they completely pluck and mutilate themselves, they are not as destructive to furniture as the cockatoos are, they are not as aggressive as the cockatoos (the males have been known to injure and even kill their female mates during breeding season in captivity), etc. Their beaks are uniquely shaped and can do more damage than Greys.
@wantanafricangrey We run a bird rescue and sanctuary and by far, the cockatoos are much more difficult than the African Greys. We have both here. There are plenty of statistical surveys and comments out there from others who run rescues and sanctuaries that could tell you the same.
@JBis2fab4u Cockatoos sell anywhere fro $800 to $5000 depending on what species you want, and they need a cage as big as a refrigerator (or larger), which can cost $400 or more. They also need crooked wooden perches and more toys than a 4yr old human child! Still interested in one?
@CockatooMan Bravo, CockatooMan! In my experiences of running a bird sanctuary, we have found that cockatoos stay in the same household for shorter periods of time than other parrots due to their volume, moodiness, high cost of care, etc. We receive more calls from owners wanting to relinquish their cockatoos than any other species of parrot.
@4thel0ve Yes, he certainly does know it. And he loves to put on a show for everyone who comes to visit and film him. Once he's done dancing, he loves to pose for the camera.
@BirdLoversOnly I *knew* it!! When he received his applause, he did the rocker-style 'headbanging' technique perfectly! :)
. .
On a serious note, I'm so happy to see that you give experienced advice to people who express interest in owning a cockatoo. People really need to understand that these birds are not something to own just for 'fun'. Their care and needs are very similar to raising a child.
Love snowball dancing and wandering if he has learnt to sing the song yet. You can clearly hear "everybody" throughout the video. Our Buddy (sulphur crested cockie) enjoyed watching it too.
@razor7844 Yes, that is a wild caught African Grey with only one eye. We believe he may have lost an eye during his capture by poachers in Africa 30 years ago.
@geikogecko African Greys have an average lifespan of 60 years. Generally speaking, the larger the parrot the longer the lifespan. Macaws and the larger cockatoos can live to be around 100 years old.
@MelindaColden That is a wild caught Congo African Grey with only one eye. He is now about 29 or 30 years old. He was captured in Africa and that's how we believe he lost his eye.
@BirdLoversOnly my parents bought her when she was about one year old (i wasnt born yet^^) and tried to habituate her to her new home...it took 14 years but now she is very happy and flies around in the house:D we really love her:)

@dillondude9 This is a bird rescue and did not intend for this to be a professional film. The video was taken during a moment when Snowball was having fun at dancing.....it captured the moment.

Interesting how the African Grey observes this activity, offering a little head bobbing now and then, but largely maintains his cool.
There's no rock music in the nature world, so I wonder how cockatoos have gotten along in the wild for so long without music?

@dillondude9 This is a bird rescue and did not intend for this to be a professional film. The video was taken during a moment when Snowball was having fun at dancing.....it captured the moment.
