  • plz kenyan wacha tuokoe maisha ya wanainchi other wise we gonna have people in future .

  • This is why I hated my time in Kenya. They dont have Crosswalks!!! Look he hit a womann and people just keep going. you people are mad!

  • fences + flyovers-stupid kenyans=life.

  • even if the city council build's the safety measures required it will still not make a difference if pedestrians are not educated about using them

  • Under no circumstances should a pedestrian cross a highway from a point other than a designated crossing point. The problem with Kenyan roads is that roads are built with only vehicles in mind; they do not walkways at the side, they do not have crossing points. Highways should either be fenced where pedestrians may be tempted to cross or fly-overs built but we'll have to wait till 2050, I guess.

  • we are our engineers this is an emergency! something needs to be done for the pedestrians!!

  • 120 kph speed limit on Mombasa rd for small cars? What a joke. That is way too fast even in major highways/freeways in countries where the road network is fairly advanced. And why is the speed limit for small cars different from other vehicles if I got the reporter right? Kenyans never cease to amaze me.

  • Ankoliza, good suggestions but your spelling sucks! Kindly return to your grammar books.

  • The Kenya traffic police should INSTALL CAMERAS along roadways to get indisputable evidence to charge drivers of their criminal acts. The punishment should include VEHICULAR HOMICIDE punishable by long terms in prison and permanent lose of driver's license. This will make drivers drive responsibly. Pedestrians need safe crosswalks and overpasses.

  • Speed limits in populated areas coupled with hefty fines. Speed is a major component of the issue here and it gets worse given that most of these cars are likely second-hand and have less than perfect braking systems.

  • road safety signs, road safety officers, pedestrians paths and road cartursy to be followed by all. Most drivers dont drive accordingly due to rush of matatus. it could be better of we have a figured number for matatus at every stage so we reduse the number of tracks on high ways at all times. mostly school childrens braek times are common and those are the most times accidents occured. can this be putten in high level concideration so we care the coming generation.

  • Ankoliza you have excellent suggestions but your grammar is completely out of order.

    1. Start every sentence with a capital letter, eg Road safety and not road...

    2. Courtesy instead of cartursy.

    3. Pedestrian paths, not pedestrians paths.

    4. Your second sentence is ambiguous.

    5. number of matatus, not number for...

    6. Reduce, instead of reduse.

    7. Trucks, not tracks - the former being a type of vehicle while the latter means different things.

  • 8. Highway is one word, not high way.

children is already a plural for child, adding an s" at the end renders the word meaningless.

    9. You write in several tenses and voices at the same time - figure out what suits you - don't mix them up.

    10. Putten - what word is this?

    11. We say consideration, not concideration (stop creating your own word - you are neither Charles Dickens or Shakespeare).

    12. Care for the, not care the...

  • Aaii,Jak. na wewe ni mkali kweli, give the guy pumzi kidogo,we have been taught to vumilia others bora waeleweke, btw,'putten' he actually meant 'put',lol pity is the person who marked his compo na insha :-)

  • It is neither...nor not neither... or

Nyani haoni kundule like we say hapa pwani. You admitted yourself that his suggestions were good and you understood them. Why give unwarranted grammar lessons?

Back to the issue at hand. A tunnel will probably be cheaper, more adequate for the old and handicapped and more esthetic than a flyover. Kenyans need also to learn some manners and courtesy.

  • Thanks for the correction brother - I accept it with due humility. It certainly should be neither nor - I have no excuse for making that silly mistake.

On the other hand, you must agree with me that there are typos and there are glaring grammatical errors that make reading unpleasant. Moreso, if we insist on being part of any discussion forum, we have to make ourselves understandable.

  • ooh my god, @jakothoth, u crack me up! very funnys

  • Last bad not least, espouse the art of brevity - the less you write, the fewer the mistakes.

This is all in good faith. Bad grammar sucks!

  • Since you decided to turn the discussion about this sad issue into a grammar lesson, here's one for you ; it's but not bad. Writing less for lesser mistakes is also very much relevant in your case.

  • this is disgusting

  • the government should crack the whip and arrest and fine those who cross the highway carelessly. Even here in the UK it is suicidal to cross any motorway and if caught, you face a hefty punishment.

  • People should boycott all bizness along the killer HiWay and do a sit-in on the tarmac until alternatives for pedestrians are found!
