yes - a real pity :( - my dad had collected all these records - his age is 76. Yet we will not throw them away - i am sure my bro will take some :) coz Vinyl is still (in my ears) better than digital - digital sounds like an iron bucket (my dad always says) and he is right - the real feel is in the depth - and what depth does digital have? i am not talking bt the "tune-depth" i talk abt the "heart depth". merry Xmas and a great 2012 to you :)
@iveenea: I have a vinyl in the attic of Mahalia on "let's pray together." This song is featured on the record. It's all Mahalia. Her Harpo Marx "Guardian Angels" is on there as well. It's just sitting up there with spiders and dust crawling over it. I have all of her vinyl records. I'm sixty years old, so I collected them during their release years. When I die, they'll just be thrown out. Shame, isn't it?
nopes - maybe in the US you were able to buy it as written Billindiana1 - we got a German edition of that thingy - but it was a compilation - i.e. the name was Spectrum and various artists did sing on it - i never found any record (yes vinyl - the black ones) on which Mahalia was "solo" with that particular song. So there are two records on this very planet ;) and, as mentioned NO CD - sorry Martius... if you wish i can send you the song - yet need your e-mail then.
@edantila: I hear you, and, yes, Christ is a significant Redeemer to me as well. I look to the Beatitudes for comfort, as I'm sure you do as well. Not to worry . . . you're all right. Hang in there, my friend.
you know - we are all the same - we are born - and we will die - what we do in the meantime is our responsibility - coz we do have the ability to TAKE DECISIONS - na?
thank you - and hv a good night / day :) and a marve Christmas :)
@iveeNia: I agree. I think I've always intuitively felt this sentiment. I am sure Mahalia was a conduit of love and, thus could not have denigrated the billions of others. After all, we have to recall her negative upbringing in the Jim Crow South. She knew the sting of rejection. I do appreciate people who are sincere about their beliefs--insofar as they don't condemn because of a severe lack of understanding.
@IveeNia: I think this interpretation of Jackson's "Deep River" is appropriate. Mahalia read portions of the Buddhist holy book in Japan and toured holy places in India in 1971. She affirmed the people she encountered and still expressed her own views. That's dialogue, which is needed, coupled to human respect.
@Billinindiana thanks for the reply, and I understand your sense of tolerance , but I came out of a background of intense spiritual seeking starting off with Hinduism/yoga and Buddism then into shamanism etc that ultimately lead me into sorcery "pharmakeia" and the communication with spirits etc,and measuring truth subjectively by the reality of my spiritual experiences ..so walking through all that stuff and suddenly meeting Jesus the Christ the very one Mahalia so adored and walked with
BTW: i.e. P.S. these are my visions - Visions fm not only the "Christian belief" but also fm other cultures. so - if they should be occult or not divine like - what will Asians think abt us? abt "us Christians"? or abt Muslims?
what will a Buddhist think abt killing animals? hmmmmmmmmm
i think - we need a broader mind to understand :) THE WHOLE - the wholly - the holy - the entire belief - worldwide - :)
- these are my ideas of pictures - those are my hobby - the point is - in all of us there are both sides - when we are in an "upset mode" we act strange - if we force ourselves to always be in the same mode i.e. idle or careless - we will not change - or we do not wish to be changed - i.e. we will be lived. Yes, Mahalia was a holy person (my opinion) - yet pls - do not mix HER with me - SHE is SHE - i am i :) so pls do see things differently. krgds ivee
@IveeNia - I appreciate your heart.. and yet I so long to be "lived" by His Spirit because Galatians 5:22.."the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control against such things there is no law and those who belong to Christ have crucified their passions, desires,if we live by the Spirit let us also walk by the Spirit...may you taste some of the heavenly wonders of this fruit and the purity,Holiness that comes from drinking His living water
Heavenly music but sure creepy pictures tell me why has mahalia Jackson's faith in Christ prompted you to display this barrage of occultic imagery I can tell you what she would think of that Deuteronomy 18:9-12
@edantila I understand your "strict" interpretation, yet Mahalia travelled the globe, including all of Asia.
She WAS interested in the world view of God, I can promise you. She affirmed her Christian faith but saw no disparity with others. That's true Christianity minus the elitism, and maybe we should study her readiness to learn about the other billions on the planet. She was not afraid.
@Billinindiana from edantilla con't- yes meeting Jesus and seeing His love through the cross so captured my heart that others may interpret my passion for Him as strict but to me it's about Him and a living faith walking with Him in the Spirit again just as Mahalia did so ardently as well, so if our faith and the preeminence of Jesus and His word's offend you as being "strict" then for that I apologize
thank you Kgfan :) it was a long search for completion - cause - the song had to be transformed fm Audio to Digital :) we had it all the time - on vinyl :) an old black record :) and this is "just" part of her legacy - i love/d that woman :)
:) yes true :)

The name of the original album released in 1964 by Columbia Records is "Let's Pray Together." It's not available on CD.

What is the name of the album this version came from? It is truly extraordinary and I'd love to get a copy of it. :)

you know - Billinindiana - when we find out that we are all human beings - we will find out that religion = just a word...
Only God = eternal - religion is not :)
i hope you understand :)
hv a great day or - more appropriate - a good night - should you live in the US

@IveeNia Yes, we do need to be open to the world. We are connected, and that causes fear among people. I cannot live in fear, nor should we.
