I saw them later in the year at Mountain View, California. It was an incredible show, and it's been available as a bootleg DVD for some time. I can't seem to find any posting from it - maybe I'll have to put it up myself. This seems like a great show too - in fact I think they released two rare live EPs from this performance...well, maybe not EPs, but the kind where there's a studio cut and then a couple live tracks. They were great as I recall. I'll have to check my mountain of CDs again.
Wow... Plant is such a tasteful vocalist. I think a lot of the newer bands miss the point of that and get caught up in musical excess. Led Zeppelin are men of a generation that will not happen again. It's like a unique inner resource they have, all those early influences at a time music was changing so much. It gives their music a certain quality both inscrutable and obvious.
geez! it always comes back to Jimmy and Jimi fer me...these "guitar school" hacks like Vai,Satriani and Gilbert are lacking creatively, when sumone shows you all the neat stuff on guitar ,instead of realizing it on guitar for yourself is a big diff.,,the self-taught guitarist has a lot more of emotion and labour invested in the licks they play,(I know evryones had a coupla lessons, but guitar school is evryday for 6 hours ,its like loading a rock program, lol
The self-taught guitarist has feeling, but those devoting plenty of time for practice develops flawless technique. And that players taught by teachers/lessons/whatever lack soul is bullshit. They get inspired too when composing, albeit from a different perspective ;)
@Guitarscreech06 I never said that self taught guitarists lack 'soul'(or heart-mind-body connection that religious folk call a soul) I said they lack 'creativity',big difference. And BTW I know practice makes perfect but you dont really need a guitar school to practice guitar,if you are of the creative sort then one guitar lesson is enuff(learn the 1st position chords, photocopy chord, arepeggio and scales on paper and Bob`s ur uncle) to set you on the path. And practice will make it perfect.
Dang. I love this part of HMMT. I remember seeing Page and Plant in Minneapolis in 98 and Jimmy walked over to his amp and nonchalantly picked up the bow off the top of the amps and the place went crazy. Being in the presence of these two masters was an experience I will never forget, especially the great Jimmy Page.
Whoever took this vid had some great seats and pretty good sound BTW. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, Page took heroin, but I'm pretty sure he went off it in the mid-'80s, not the mid-'90s. Even so, you're probably right about the medication for heroin addiction making someone fat.
@tartinovich9 Age and gravity are enough to account for people gaining weight as they age. Wait until you're getting there before you comment on others.
This is from the 98 walking into clarksdale tour! I used to have the tape from chicago the one I was at. Dennis rodman came out in between encore. Page wore a bulls hat during it. This Part was incredible!! They started off with the Wanton Song!!
Major drool from 2:12 - 2:16. As a guitar player myself, I know you can get so lost and so focused in your playing that you can end up drooling. I've caught myself doing it a couple of times.
Is it because he has the pick in his mouth and it is hard to swallow and hold a pick in ones mouth at the sametime when one is so focused into there playing of the guitar with a bow???????
When I saw them in Memphis Page didn't play the solo. He went to that slower part after the main riff, right before the solo, and then just went back to playing the main riff. I guess they shortened it to make room for more songs?

By the way, if you like your rock with a mystic touch to it, like Most High, you might like a song I just posted on my channel called Morning Star.

This is Page's trademark --- been happening for decades - each and every show. It just gets edited out on official releases.
