  • the temptations made this video.....

  • Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!! Nothing but the funk. Love, Love, Love the Temptations and Mr Slick, Rick James. They don't make them like that anymore. Gone too soon but the funk is here to stay..........

  • Funk Is Here To Stay....

  • Mannnnnn!!!! That was a classic reunion! it was a great time in music.... but a tragic end to perhaps the last SUPER SOUL GROUP R.I.P. Melvin, Eddie, Paul, and of course Mr. David Ruffin.

  • We want the Funk! Nuthin' but the Punk Funk! All we're sayin'' is WE WANT THE FUNK! We want the Funk and nothin' else will Do-Hoo-Hoo!!!!!

  • The greatest 3:47 in video music history

  • It was not just great choices in songs or their many great voices. No other group in history has ever performed as well on stage. Great voices, great songs and the best dancers in R&B history. Will anybody ever top the Temptations? I don't think so.

  • The audience there were the luckiest bastard's of all time agree???

  • I love this, would have loved to see them all live. I remember hearing all the old Temtations songs when they were new.

  • I love this! Classy,funky, soul.

  • fuckkk!!! david ruffin and rick james. i would have lost my fucking mind

  • some of the greats through some rough times.

  • This is the shit y'all!!!!

  • Rick James really boosted The Temptations career in the early '80's. First by featuring them on his Street Songs album on the song Super Freak then writing this song for their reunion album. It was also featured on one of James' albums.

  • wow, this is soso great!!!!! thank you so much for posting!!!!

  • I haven't seen this video since 1982 on "Entertainment Tonight' when they were talking about the Temptations reunion tour. Thanks for the upload.

  • Welcome to Funk Class 101.

  • Man I miss these guys

  • David looks good ! and still gettin down!!!

  • David look good ! and still gettin down!!!

  • binalhabibi what I do understand that it was history in the making to even get all those Temptations 2gether in one room long enough to record the reunion album due to the inner battles they had over the years..I still have the album on wax in excellent condition too..

  • THE TEMPTATIONS FEAT RICK JAMES STANDING ON THE TOP CLASSIC.

  • THIS IS PART OF THE REASON WE CAN'T GET THEM WHITE WOMEN OFF OUR BLACK MAN!!...... THEY SOME BADASS MOTHER FLOWERS!!!!!.....YEAH!!!!!!..AMEN!!

  • did u all know that rick james is the nephew of melvin franklin? well now u know

  • this is the SHIT ......TREE THUMBS UP MUTHASUKAS.........NEVER C THIS TYPE OF PERFORMANCE....PERIOD.

  • That must have been a great time to go to a Temptations show and see both significant lead vocalists, David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards sing their leads and trade lines lines on same stage together. It really must have been the best of both worlds.

  • this was a dream come true, to see most of the Tempts back together at the top of their game, except Paul WIllaims, RIP

  • Brilliant song, brilliant group...Rick James was also one of my favourite all time artists he was just wild/hip/vibrant.....talented.

  • Standing on the top! Brilliant song one of the best groups of all times, the Mighty Temptations.

  • Whoever the person was that disliked this video is on crack. This was pure genius.

  • Wow. I still get goose bumps from hearing and watching this video. Like Sangria stated, the Temps had some tight dance steps. That switch from Dennis to David was smooth. And then you throw all of the movement in the background..brilliant. Music like this will never be duplicated.

  • @JellyBean2144 I was just saying the same thing man. That transition was tight! The way Dennis spun around then came right on step with the rest of them was flawless.

  • How talented was Rick James? Took these past greats and let them enter another generation with a great song. . Long live the music of the King Of PUNK-FUNK Rick James.

  • @simmersammer yeah, he obviously appreciated those who preceded him. not much of that in today's music.

  • @simmersammer yes long live!

  • please don't tell me at 3:26 onward the Tempts are doing a James Brown move.

  • saanzacs: you forgot Paul Williams

  • I'm here thanks Salah, grat dancer, great song...

  • David Ruffin looked like a homeless man but still sang like a friggin god. Bravo.

  • With out doubt, the most bad ass tune ever to hit the planet.

  • i like in 2:42 when david richard eddie and glenn sing the high part lol i guess melvin ottis and dennis couldnt go that high

  • I was born way too late! I wish I could have seen the Reunion tour - all 7 guys, INCLUDING David and Eddie? That's too awesome for words.

  • WOW---all 7 Temptations plus Rick James all on the same stage---that`s very unique!

Sounded more like the original Temps when Dennis Edwards and David Ruffin switched places and Ruffin took lead microphone!

  • OMG! This sh*t is so dam CLASSIC that it's BANANAS!!! Just ridiculous!!! It's epic to have Rick and the Temptations on the same joint just FUNKIN IT UP! I think this is one of Rick's many masterpieces.

  • i bet rick and ruff, where puffin tough!

  • "GOD DAMN I FELL DAT"!!!!!!

  • so thats why rick james says 'temptations sing' in superfreak

  • @FuckTruckPluck He had connections because Melvin Franklin was his uncle.

  • I dont think anyone understands just how FUCKING COOL this video is

  • @binalhabibi, So True, So True!

  • @binalhabibi i DO,...its phenomenal.

  • @binalhabibi TRUST ME, US FUNKSTERS DO UNDERSTAND...THIS TUNE IS POWERFUL...

  • im laughing at dennis edwards and his mouth expressions

  • Que fuerza.... por dios.... :-)

  • YESSSSSIIIRR!!!!

  • shit's baaaaadddd niggas

  • Their precision is still excellent like it was in the 60's

  • Re: Rodeoxxx - You right, this is serious shit. Layers of vocals - lead, backup, and ensemble; keyboard layers, keyboard bass, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, hand percussion, mallet percussion, electronic percussion loops, horn section. Live, the drummer would be almost putting his foot through the pedal and kick drum head and his backbeat on the snare would be like a piledriver. Yes, this is serious shit.

  • David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards were bad ass.

  • This is serious shit

  • @rodeoxxx It is. Rick James was a musical genius to put this record together with probably the greatest group of all time.

  • As good as Dennis Edwards voice is.....David Ruffin will always be the lead singer of the Temptations.

  • It's weird that Melvin and Rick James are uncle and nephew being that only a couple of years separated them.

  • showmanship.

  • Always hated the short version. The 10 minute version was on the Temps Reunion album but not on Rick's Throwin Down album. They released the 11 minute version of "Big Time" just last year. I'll never understand why they didn't release that back in the day it's real funky...

  • Oh yeah this is THE JAM

  • Eddie is just too smooth 0:54

  • @Weeds1100 no doubt eddie was smooth, but when David got the singing it gave me this energy, David had that powerful voice that would make you get up

  • Wooo! Good times boy, good old times. This still makes me get up and boogie.

  • de3e

  • Dear black people, why don't you compose real music like you used to? I'll admist us white people took a big shit on our rock n roll, and it doesnt require the same talent. BUT, the direction you guys took is so far away from what you were it makes me sad :(

  • THERES A HELL OF A PARTY GOING ON IN HEAVEN RIGHT NOW WITH THESE GUYS AND IF RICK JAMES DIDNT HAVE HIS WINGS AFTER GOD HEARS HIM AND TEENA SING FIRE AND DESIRE HE'LL GET EM FOR SURE NOW!! LOL RIP TO THE GREAT TEMPS,RICK & TEENA MARIE !!

  • for all you conspiracy theorist, notice all the times they trow up the baphomet?

  • The studio where this video was filmed had to be destroyed immediately after the filming.

That much awesome can not (by the laws of nature and physic) is not supposed to be contained in one building.

  • the best groups ever no one can top the temptations

  • Ahh David Ruffin. Yea, I wasn't joking cause I usually listen to heavy metal like Pantera, and pop music like Lady Gaga and stuff, but I heard this and was like man! This just gets me goin, like really feelin fine and funky you know! And just the way they sing their parts with so much freakin style!!! Like at 0:46, who is that guy, he is singing so rad from the recording, and in the video he is bein freaky and funky with rad style, it blows my mind!!! What are some great songs by Ruffin....

  • @DonnyDaison My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me), Walk away from love are two of my fvs by Ruffin

  • @DonnyDaison That's none other than Mr. Dennis Edwards that took over at lead for David Ruffin when he was let go from the group. He sang lead on Temptations classics like Cloud 9, Can't Get Next to You, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Ball of Confusion and many more.

  • also you can hear in eddies voice that the smoking was affecting his singing, his falsetto wasn't as strong as it used to be back in the early days

  • David ruffin... Rick James.... need I say more

  • Now that is what you call great timing

  • my man DonnyDaison that's none other than the GREAT DAVID RUFFIN please tell me you were joking lol

  • whos the guy singing the verse at 1:43? he's got a wicked voice!

  • @DonnyDaison david ruffin

  • so awsome funky

  • I have this song on my cell - everytime we reach summit when hiking, this gets played - with a few temptations moves... gotta love it!!!

  • were's otis?

  • @jlove1165 @ 3:36 right near the camera

  • Aint nobody coming to see you Otis lol

  • @Sekiel thats my fav line!! but somebody had to come see Otis...

  • @Sekiel HE STILL DOING THE TEMPS NO ONE EVEN KNOW THE NAMES OF THE WANNA BE TEMPS.. HEY OTIS LET THE TEMPS DIE AND STAND IN THE LIGHT OF YESTERDAY

  • @sierria64 TEMPTATIONS FOREVER. SO BE IT.AMEN

  • As I understand it "Thou shall uphold the Funk" is the 11th commandment! =)

  • that was just awesome BarreyWhite!!! thanks for posting this...there's nothing like back-in-the-day music...you got to love it...;)

  • What a line up. David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, and Rick James. Crazy...

  • MTV plays music videos? Since when? ;-)

  • David's voice is the sh.... they dont sang like that no more...2 bad!!!

  • Comment removed

  • No other group had tighter steps than the Temptations. This was one of those "just in time records"... Rick James was a genious. It was great seeing the group together jamming. thanks for the post.

  • @Sangria3 I totally agree, how old were they on this footage? The move better than a lot of young folk, there was so much soul in their steps.

  • @MsYvetteCorbett They were in their late 30's and 40's...True old school folks have or had a certain funky rhythm that comes or came from their soul. See we would have certain dances steps out every month or so and

and we would feel it in our bones and just groove to the beat. I'm not sure of your age group but I wouldn't trade the sounds, times and fun we had back in those days for a million dollars!!! I'm from New Orleans and we would dance in the clubs and have a pure funky good time...

  • @Sangria3 Oh you are not lying ! I don't see the young people having the same fun we had- It's a different world for sure, and true that, I think we had a better one than the one they have today...We could DANCE !

  • @gblueslover2 I'm sorry they'll never experience what we shared back in the day. We had a bond that was undeniable. You'd go to the club with your girls and the guy would buy drinks for the entire table and introduce himself to the whole group, but it was you that caught his eye. He'd take your hand and ask, "May I have this dance"?? You'd dance the nite away.. We played hard and loved even harder and went to work the next day. Oh I miss those days. The entertainers kept the hits coming.

  • @Sangria3 I was born in the 80's, so, there goes the neighborhood. LOL! I'm an old school fool. I still watch re-runs of Soul train and I put them in my own dances. Dancing is from within. I love dancing. I sing in dance, if you click my name. You'll see my postings. :-D I totally agree with what you said. My entire playlist on my phone is old school. People are surprised that I'm not keen with the garbage that's out now. I love songs that have meanings.

  • @MsYvetteCorbett Thanks for the headsup on the movie rental...

  • @Sangria3 Yeah Rick sure was a genius. He had the world by the ass and he blew it. Sure wish he wouldn't of done THAT...

  • @gblueslover2 Doesn't it look like most true musical genius have some type of drama going on with them and I think that is what makes them a genius. Look at Micheal, R. Kelly, James Brown, Natalie Cole, Gerald Levert, Rick James, Teddy P, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Ron Isley, Whitney Houston and the list goes on and on. Some of them cheated us out of listening to their awesome sounds.

  • @Sangria3 I know what u mean...There must be some kinda thin LINE between genius and insanity. Maybe when people get to the point when they are " Standing on the Top " like Rick was obviously here.. no where else to go but DOWN...?

  • @Sangria3 I know what u mean...There must be some kinda thin LINE between genius and insanity. Maybe when some artists get to the point when they are " Standing on the Top " like Rick was obviously here.. no where else to go but DOWN...? If u ask me, he shoulda known better than THIS...

  • RIP Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin and Rick James

  • @saanzacs and Paul Williams, though he wasn't in the video, one of the original Temps

  • Tops right here! * * * * * !

  • Pure class

  • funk isn't dead

  • I still beleive that someday I'm gonna be STANDING ON DA TOP!

  • I've always loved this song. Awesome video!

  • When this music hits your ears, you can't even help but start to just jam!! It will never cease to amaze me how todays musicians just ignore this solid, timeless sound. Scratchin, swearing, and slangin,......but no more SANGING!!!..WTF

  • I love this. i heard that ricks uncle is Melvin franklin from the temptations.

  • Damn don't they look good in those tuxedos! Even Rick James got on a tux but of course, it's tricked out! Got to be different 'cause he got to have his glitter, not limited to his braids. LOL Can't help but be a little sad because so many of these brothers are no longer here. Classic....glad they made a video of this song.

  • One hell of a song... These guys jam.

  • this is classic music not that noise of today

  • bad ass!

  • @kswiss8879, David Ruffin and Rick James were cousins also they were related to Melvin Franklin.

  • @hhrmurray i don't knojw if david ruffin and rick james were related but rick james and melvin franklin were uncle and nephew

  • F-U-N-K it up! ;-)

  • For the past month I have been addicted to this video and im not apologizing!!!!

  • They was in the groove!!!!!,,,,,,Temptations 4 ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!tell em David went your on the low where do the people go?

  • Hell naw. I'm trippin cuz the Temps and Rick were really jammin on this song. I jus took it for granted back in the day. Of course ERRYBODY was on point musically bac k then. We had soooooo much talent then. But I'm trippin cuz I didn't realize that Eddie Kendricks performed on this song with the Temps. I thought he had gone solo by then. But I guess all the old Temps came back for this song with Rick James. I forgot about that. This was truly the jam.

  • My parents had the best music in their day. That good ole funk!

  • "I'm David Ruffin I'm the star, David Ruffin and the Temptations! no one comes to see you Otis." -Actor who played David Ruffin in the Temptations movie 1998

  • so much damn talent on one record! the only problem is it sounds too much like tear the roof off the sucka by p-funk, And trying to picture a party with rick james and david ruffin in the same building.

  • @seenthefuture86

LOL that would be so funny to see that. rick james and david ruffin at the same party
