  • just like to say what is the fun of contests? there isn't they are just boreing people intrested in getting as many QSO's as possible why carn't they be sencerble and have a good old chat? but there it is they carn't can they? 5-9 73's CQ contest those people who do that type of stuff need to get a life and have a proper QSO and use HF the way it is supposed to not like the way they use it it's just a waste of ham radio operateing I think.

  • Let me Start off by saying everyone is entitled to there opinion.

second putting down others is probably not the way to have your opinion taken seriously

third as far as proper use of the HF bands i would like you to tell me who is the high authority that will decide for all the Hams what is a "proper QSO" THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO !!

  • CONTIUED:

But instead of looking at contesting from the outside looking in you may want to go to a contest station and see all that goes in to doing one before you cast it out with the trash.

many a non contester has found contesting interesting and get the "bug" just as you did when you first got interested in radio and got a call sign of your own, you do have a call don't you??

as i'm sure it was omitted from the post in error, 73 and happy hamming

  • @helraiser666painkil Once again the ARRL has failed armature radio by letting contesting get totally out of cotrole. It is ridiculous listing to some of these lids literley qrm an entire band .Some of these clowns sound like the world will coming to an end and its there last transmission..And more than half do not practice good operating procedures many are running way over the legal limit and are ridiculously too wide with the audio. There was a time when contesting was fun.???Thats my opinion .

  • I have the icom 730 and love it!

  • Yes it was a great radio, but i have newer stuff now

  • My dad was a very keen Amatuer radio enthusiast and hosted a couple of contests, but he did not like doing them. He said they were im-personal and not polite. Just getting QSL's and not really talking to the people. You could get some really rare people on a contest, but you were not allowed to have a conversation with them. And, unless conditions were right another day you may never talk to them again! It was all pretty pointless to me and to him. Long live Messenger!!

  • Ok..... Thanks for your coments, BTW, What was your Dads call?

And if you dont like contesting i guess dont do it!

And do you wish to leave your call here as well?

  • My dads call sign was G0IBV. I was never interested enough to take the test. Dad was a cb'er first though. He then went onto Ham. He had a heathkit (can;t remember what make it was,) and a yaesu. It was about 8 years ago now since he was last on the air. He had to stop due to poor health. I doubt his call sign relates to him anymore. Being so long ago.

  • Is that the ic-730 ? or it says 740 ?

  • Yes that is and old IC-730, i no longer have it.

    73, Dave

  • I sold my own to get an ic-7000. It sure did the job, but the problems where enough.

  • Super shack? and verry good vidéo !!

    73 and good DX.
