The Commodore should not hold that position - unprofessional and irresponsible as a spokesperson for the NZ Navy, an embarrassment. I am also sure that his obvious lack of good health (obvious weight issues) would be some sort of risk to command, as a well as presenting a negative role model to juniors. Never mind the nut-allegies, what about hightened blood pressure and risk of heart attack / stroke etc. One would hope that he seeks an early retirement. Good luck Layton
utter bullshit. I failed my army medical based on having "mild" asthma. I only got wheezing when I got sick once per year.
I applyed to the navy and didn't disclose my "mild" asthma. Never had ANYTHING for the six years that I was in. However, one other recruit did disclose her asthma condition which was the same as mine and she was refused entry. She was told the day before going in for our 3 month basic training.
They want recruits who won't give them headaches based on medical conditions.
That "commodore" is nothing more than a pathetic bureaucrat looking to cover his own inept ass. I must say that it is particularly poor form for him to put in that cheap parting shot (probably the only kind of shot our navy can fire, given its lack of equipment).
Its good to see fair go apparently sufficient embarrasment to this munter that they forced the navy to reverse its decision (see NZ Navy & Fair Go episode 2)
navy fucked up. Whats the point of having the initial medical form if no one reads it, thats the whole point of it, to find shit out. The commodores a bit of a dick, "memory improves"?? he told you clowns at the start, hope your checks improve. What a ballbag trying too blame him on national TV. even he said he was a top candidate, navy struggles to man its ships and this guys turned away cos he might get a rash from nuts, whats next seasickness??? promote this guy he's obviously a genius
navy stuffs up alot but they followed procedure, a nut free diet is hard to establish at sea, and would you like an officer incharge with a ship passed out whilst refugees are invadeing your country, and also the commodore is a highly respected man to every sailor and officer in your navy and others
Im not saying there is a problem with taking a person with an allergy to sea, I agree he could be a liability however slight the degree, what I am saying is the commodore could have been more humble with his answer as in fact it is navy procedures fault. He started off well then had to go and throw that shit in at the end, what a knob. I don't really care how respected he is, if he can't be the bigger man and just take it on the chin without having a dig at the poor guy, then what a loser.
Navy didnt do their research thats quite embarrassing advice to that guy not to go back ... he will get shit and be known for being soft for ever in the navy , its just like a boarding school only some grow up .
