Is a Dell precision 490 a good box to run music processing on? Programs like pro tools, ableton, reason, etc? I do not necessarily need fast graphic refreshing, but processing of wav, mp3 and recorded files! Thanks!!!
@MOVIMKR7 This video is about 4 years old....so technology has changed pretty dramatically. Precision workstations are designed for those types of applications (with the exception of Shake which is an Apple product and has been discontinued).
2 X XEON Quad Core 2.6ghz with 16 GB RAM and 2 X 74GB 15,000 RAID 0 HDD with ASUS X1950 Graphics card.
Problem......NONE whatsoever......the best 24/7 system on this planet for home users. 5 Years Gold Warranty which means if your system do have a problem, DELL technicians will come within 4 hours.
Thi is the guy responsible for the the problems with precisions line. Like bnot calibrated screens, no ICM profiles. :) I bet this guy had no idea what color management is. :)
I own a Precision M4400 and am very happy with it. What I like most is the build quality. .I was tired of Acer notebooks that feel like toys. Perhaps the only complain about the new line of Precision is that Dell does not offer WSXGA+ screens.
a notebook will never be the machine you will choose for gaming the precision notebooks are great i own a M4300 with a 2,4GHZ dualcore and it is incredibel. It has great batery endurance and offers a great performance and support. One great thing is also the huge choice of drivers so that you can pick yust the fitting one for you self.
Its a business machine and as sutch it is great.
By the way i also ran GRID and Stalker on mine it worked preety good better that i would have expected.
i have a dell m90 precision...somebody is saying that even if i have 4gb of ram is not good 4 editing video...Maybe the nvidia doesn t support 3d graphic transition...what do u think guys?
I bought a Precision 670 2 years ago and it is the slowest computer i had. They changed the computer 2 times because it was broken. They change the hard disk 2 times in 8 months et the power supply.
You talk about fastest computers... let me laugh! ahahah!!!
They're talking about the new line of Precisions, aka the Precision M-series (M65, M90). I have the M90 and my benchmarks tends to beat even overclocked XPS notebooks.
I proudly own the Dell Precision M90 since 2007 and I am still using it in 2012!
It’s been everywhere I used it in Iraq for 3 years and we survived the war.
Cost me £2000 back then but it was worth every penny.
The sound on the M90 is fantastic with the woofer at the bottom.
The M90 is also a great entrainment device..
I use it for everything but mainly for video editing and 3D animation.
Replacing it with a Dell Precision M6500 soon.
Dell’s Precision line is exceptional ...Cheers Dell!

M90 is a bad "workstation". At 2 years it died. Dell replace hardware, but at short time it died again.

Dell Precision Workstations is exactually the same as its E1705 (excepte graphic card, maybe).
and all of those notebook will be obsolete once core 2 duo comes out later this year...
and seriously, this is not a cheaper way of making ads than paying some kid to say "Dude, you're getting a Dell!".
