I am trying to set this up but it's not working.

I have a folder with my movie in it, say called Iron Man.

In the folder I have the movie, jpg (both called the same - Iron Man) and then the folder.jpg.

But when I go to the WD player I don't see the thumbnail picture. It just shows the generic folder icon.

Could this be because I am using an external HD plugged into the media player instead of my pc?

@koshkacoomber if you have them in a folder it should look like this

Folder say it's named IRON MAN

inside the folder 3 files

1. ironman.avi

2.ironman.jpg

3.folder.jpg <<<<this file is a picture of ironman or dvd cover it is the picture you want to show up for the folder

Which Firmware do you use? Mine is 1.05.04 and the folder icon is exactly in the middle of the thumbnail. How can i get the folder icon the the right bottom like you?

@CarstenRe I'm not sure on the live version this is and older vid I have since upgraded to the hub..but I think you set it in the settings menu as thumbnail

Are you playing the movie by selecting the thumbnail? If so how is this done?

i see the jpg and the video in the folder :S i have latest firm and i selected thumbnail mode and everything is named the same :s

@LauwereysM if you have the files in a folder and you want an image to show up for the folder you have to label it like this:

Iron Man.jpg

Iron Man.avi

folder.jpg <<<<<This file is the same as Iron Man.jpg it has just been renamed to create and icon for the folder too

@ringrosehouse07 I do it like that but, let me first say this. I'm working with a server and i go to network storage in the menu. I named everything the same but still i see the covers on my avi files but my jpg files are still visible. I think it is because i'm working with a server.

name the picture the same as the video for instance if you hav a movie named

Iron Man.avi

then you have to name it the same so both files will be named

Iron man.avi

Iron man.jpg

If you want to pu the files in a folder then u name them like this

Iron Man.avi

Iron Man.jpg

folder.jpg <<this is a picture you want to represent the folder then stick the files in the folder

Thanks for the video, it worked, but I have the problem where the .jpg itself and the video are both seen, the image is linked to the video file but the picture is also there too, I just want to see the video not the jpg aswell.

@EBJ7 Make sure in menu setting you have it set to thumbnail view. Also make sure you have the latest firmware.

Does the WD TV support only JPG format cover images or can you also use PNG, BMP, TIFF? Like any of the supported photo formats listed on the box? Im thinking of driving to Wally World to buy one today.

I tried to follow your steps tp add the thumbnail to a movie folder created by DVDFab (which uses a BUP extension), and it didn't work, do you any other advice? If I convert the movie to AVI, I won't have subtitles, how do you do it? Thkz.

(Home Alone Collection name of the folder)

inside the folder:

Home Alone 1.avi

Home Alone 1.jpg

Home Alone 2.avi

Home Alone 2.jpg

folder.jpg(picture of the dvd collection boxset)

@cmurdertru187 make sure you have a torrent client. Make sure you have updated to the latest firmware for the wd. Almost all file sharing sites have mkv's. I dont really wanna give on advice on where to go I guess google for that info.

no mine doesnt stop playing in the middle of the movie but I have heard some people have that problem. Make sure you have the latest firmware on your wdtv. Also try turning of show file size in the wdtv settings menu that might help.

yeah but when you get up to 500 movies having every movie named the same thing can be a pain especially if you are going to change your movies around.and nobody forces you to do anything obviously it's a matter of preference. Also sometimes moviesare in the same folder named 1,2,3 will not display in order.

well it should have the jpg for the folder is always named folder.jpg unless you get into more advanced changes. make sure you dont have any spaces i.e folder .jpg

I created a folder called carlito's way, in this folder i have a jpg image and an mkv file, both named identical, when i go to my wdtv, i see the folder image called carlitos way, but when i click it, the movie does not start, instead it shows me the jpg image and the mkv, i have to click the mkv again to play it

how do i set it so that i just click the folder and it plays

Honestly its been awhile since Ive had this set up so I will give you a few options and try both till one works cause my memory is a little foggy on proper setup. I think either the file has to be named like this:

(Folder)

Carlito's Way.mkv

folder.jpg (folder ,jpg being the picture file)

or like this:

Carlito's Way.mkv

Carlito's Way.jpg

no folder.

yeah make sure it's not named .jpeg make sure it's .jpg you can easily change it in paint. and yes for the folder picture it has to be named .folder

cant you just change the end to jpg? because this is gonna take forever and you cant save it as jpg only JPEG but then in brackets it says *jpg and my pictures are already jpeg does that mean its still jpg?

yeah jpeg is the same but sometimes when I name it. jpeg it doesnt show up. Give it a shot and if it works for you good :)

Type: Wdtv Forum in google and there is a homebrew section on there that shows you all the differnt hacks and mods you can do to the wdtv. :) I probably will do a video of my player again after I get all the icons and movie sheets finished.

I can't post a screen shot of the list menu cause I recently hacked my Wdtv so everything looks different but to answer your question list view is very simple kinda looks like this:

American Gangster.avi

Aliens.avi

Terminator.avi

Willy Wonka .avi

And yeah if you are not as into the graphics(covers) than list view is much faster.

Hey thanks for the help! But I have one problem! I see 2 of the same picture! One is the thumbnail of the movie and the other one is the .jpg its very annoying. How did you disable it showing the .jpg file?
