@BadSwineDOTcom Huey Lewis actually sued Ray Parker Jr, the guy who wrote the song Ghostbusters, because of that. This song came out a full year before the movie.
Music now & in the last decade is worse than I ever imagined seriously even the decent songs are forgettable, not many either.. The style of music making is cheap and boring since after the millenium.. People always make excuses saying the obvious too "not ALL 2000s music is bad you just have to search"..Thats like going everyday to a really crappy store that has one decent item, no.. Its just a waste of time I'd rather stick to 50s-90s where I never stop finding amazing music it never ends
@tekstuffguy In 87 Huey released this: Fore! Their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is: Hip to be square. A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics, but they should, because it is not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of friends, it is also a personal statement about the band itself. HEY PAUL!
Has some enterprising soul mashed up "Ghostbusters" and this song? I think it would be epic, myself," If you got a dose/of a freaky ghost...I want a new drug/one that won't make me sick...who you gonna call?!" I mean, I think it would be terrific.
I like how he's going all sorts of things that are clique'd now, but for him, it's not a clique, and it's totally natural, and not on the nose. Driving around in a Compensatin' for something car... but not appearing to compensate for anything. He's got the style people who are trying to prove something have... and he doesn't need to prove nothing. Cept' that Ghostbusters ripped his style off!
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too "new wave" for my tastes, but when Sports! came out in 83....I think they really came into their own. Commercailly and artistically!
The whole lawsuit is lame. There are countless examples of how one song can sound like another. The Ray Parker song and this song are similar in baseline (somewhat), drum beat but more closely, the reptition of the chord ostinato (A, G, D)..but it's not striking enough to file a copyright infringement IMO.
@dejavuman22 I agree with you on that. My friend's dad spends up to $1,500.00 on LP's, and the sound quality is noticeable if you keep your record player in good condition.
I want a new drug That won't make me dead The one that won't make me act like Beavis and Butt-head I want a new drug That won't make me mad That won't let the hulk outta me Or make me act really bad I want a new drug That helps me get a girl The one that will help me keep her Forever in this world
Hahahaha. At 3:00 min. The guy standing next to the girl he's singing to looks pissed off at Huey. But it looks like he's pissed off because he's singing to her, and not him.
@davidadamsawyer yeah! it'll make you talk more than coke and your heart rate doens't even rise half as much... i was up for 5 days it was crazy... thank god for weed i mightve lost my mind... lol i asked for it though. fun stuff, though never again. hahah
Let's all be honest.. the song has the same bassline. But the Ghostbusters song has a way better guitar riff. Also the Ghostbusters theme is 100x better as a song. Parker took the bassline and turned it into a classic #1 hit song for a classic movie. Huey Lewis made a generic forgettable song that nobody ever talks about, but with a good bassline.
@rowdymax1 That's right, I can confirm that, I clearly remember "I want a new drug" was already a hit on the radio, and then the shity ghostbusters movie came out a year later, which by the way sucked very much...
@TheBrazenHell Yeah, that's right, I agree and anyone who states otherwise don't know the fact that "I want a new drug" was on the radio more than a year before "ghostbastards"
I had to check it out after hearing about the court case! LOL-even noting the guitar arrangement and two note synth, many songs aside from the far better Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters theme sound similar to this. Its pretty basic.
