  • I am supposing you think they are a little flat of pitch. Probably an aural illusion which is why grand pianos, handbells and some peals of bells have stretched octave tuning whereby the higher notes are deliberately sharpened to avaoid the very illusion you are noticing here.

  • Out of what? Time or pitch?

  • @aaspland pitch sound a bit off

  • @KDowner94

Go listen to the gap between the two trebles at Jewry in London (videos on youtube). I think you will agree that the "pitch sound a bit off" there as well, but as a ring they are good.

  • the front 3 are a bit out arent they?!

  • not bad not bad

  • lovely peal opf bells

  • The green sallies are pleasing to me. From Taylor, or Whitechalel? Anyone know?

  • You can get green sallies either.

  • How can you nake such a comment about one of Taylor's classic peals of bells. Wash your mouth out.

  • I once rang these on a ringing outing, possibly the nicest sounding and handling bells i have ever rang

  • fantastic sound, but are apparently getting harder to ring...

  • they are getting very tricky, especially the 3rd, 5th and 6th. I am not even sure they sound as good as they are made out to - there's too much hum and the trebles have such a naff pingyness to them. Nice yes, but the other 'vintage' Taylor bells in Herefs at Kingstone are far superior in my view!

  • I found the trouble with Kingstone was that I couldn't hear them properly. But I'm ringing there again today for a second judgement.

  • what weights the tenor?

  • Look it up in Dove

  • 12-2-26 in G.

  • there may have been a grey mist, but most of it was really smooth. they went to rounds so cleanly, and all stood at the end. our band isn't that good. are English bands all that good?

  • No - ours isnt

  • Glad to see Les Evans name mentioned here. Les and Herefordshire bells go hand in hand. Buy his book "A Herefordshire Life", available from St. Michaels Hospice charity shop in Leominster. ALL profits go to charity..an excellent read for all bellringers and country life lovers.

  • have you heard of Leslie Evens?

I wouldnt tell him you opened the trap door. He makes sure its ALWAYS locked.

90 something and he still can ring. The Treble.... Just

  • he was there and didn't seem to mind

  • There are a couple of floors between the ringers and the bells but we opened the trap door to get a better sound.

  • Taylor's 1953 Ho Ho Ho. The ringing at this tower was very well organised I thought.

  • That's a ground floor ring isn't it, by the look of pic of the tower and that window behind the ringers? Are the bells on the next floor up or on the floor where the clock is housed?

  • Ooh, a very nice sounding set of bells there. I get that same "grey mist" when ringing call changes yet can some how manage plain hunt OK!

  • Grey mist. pppfft! I live in the grey mist lol.
