the reason why they change to rhydon because they were unintended on the hexadecimal list and they have such a high spot on it, they have to revert to something once so it goes back to 01 on the hex list (rhydon)

I allways start my game with the grass type pokemon like Bulbasuar, Chiricoke, Treeko, and Tudgit. It's because when you get certain glitch Pokemon for the first time, the game will make it turn to Rhydon, since Rhydon's hexidecimal value is 1.

The game is set up like that. Like in the show, the Pikachu you get at the beginning refuses to go into it's pokeball, and follows you. Just for show, really. Only real use is to see how Pikachu feels.
