  • Yes, these pieces do have their "sound". And, yes, eventually plug-ins will sound this good... BUT.... The Beatles would have sounded great through Alesis compressors. I am the Walrus was I am the Walrus BEFORE it hit the Fairchild...

  • We all love plugins, and believe that "eventually" in-the-box tools will be indistinguishable from their analog counterparts, but there are still a significant number of analog tools that have depth of coloration and behavioral complexities beyond current digital products. Those who nit pick about professionals' descriptions of "warmth," etc. have either never heard A/B comparisons of analog/digital equivalents, or have the lowered expectations of a generation weened on inferior MP3 consumption.

  • I can dream can't I (of owning these).

  • And you can't have one!

  • the Waves PuigTec EQP-1A is a genuinely fantastic EQ plugin.

  • strange quiet reverb on his voice.like a plate. spooky!

  • Mr. Puig IS THE MAN !!!

  • @avalanchecanvass Yeah that's totally it, you explained it better. And it's just how it is... but these people... It kind of bothers me that these guys get way too high on their tools and eventually over valuate their roll almost... pathologically. I mean... it's great that these machines add up to the quality of the music, but in the end... the sole suggestion that these machines make classics, for example, makes me think they ache for a reality check.

  • they could remake this stuff any time they want like the akg c12 mic. not enough demand, lol...

  • very cool man let us hear it

  • His plug ins are amazing! The man is passionate about tone!

  • My grandfather was a hi-fi rep for Fairchild in the 50's and we a garage full of stuff made by them and Klipsch, University, EV...etc. All of eventually wound up in a landfill but I dont remember anything that looked like that compressor. Ive kicked myself many times for letting his LP collection all that vintage hi-fi equipment go.

  • jjp is the man

  • great vid..guitar amps of old are the same way. This was explained exceptionally well.

  • jjp is amaizng

  • And the plugs rocks!

  • @garyspong The video's audio is not considered, its just recorded such as a documentary. Vintage gear is truely unique from today's audio production tools.

  • How about telling us how the Fairchild has been used on songs that my daughter doesn't listen to on her i-pod.

  • AMEN!!

  • 25K can snag you one on Ebay... If you don't have an extra 25K, you can always score ski mask for about ten bucks haha. I think maybe I'll save up for the plug-in.

  • creamed myself watching this.

  • This guy is not only a great engineer, he's also very good at comunicating his ideas.

  • I wonder if this interview was recorded with a fairchild, the way the background noise was modulated by the voice was very vintage sounding ; )

  • Douchebag

  • I thought Abbey road used Chandlers then.

I would love to A/B the Fairchild with some others, and also want to know if there is somebody that compared it with the UAD one? anyone? I like the Neve 33609, but due to never hearing a Fairchild at work, i can't compare.

  • abbey road had all the TG stuff, well most of their stuff built in house by EMI.

Chandler is a very new company in comparison... but their version of the TG eq/pre/compressors sound phenomenal

  • No I wish I did. I've been in a studio that have one.

  • Fairchild 670 Is the best nothing can't compare!!!!!

  • A genius at the top of his game!

  • I love listening to him talking about sound mixing. A real artist.

  • His studio is heaven

  • Yup. As much as I love the few vintage gear I've tested, and dig some virtual stuff, I'm starting to really dislike those adjectives when people compare that Spinal Tappish, "we-don't-know-what-it-is-it's-just-It" old gear's Magic to milk shakes and fur coats. They want to sell you some "warmth", some "punches", some "hugs", some "syrup" and some "cream" topping. To me, cream, besides the one they use for the milk shakes, or in top of my chilaquiles, has always meant Baker, Bruce and Clapton.

  • @hectorjcm800

    haha great one ;D
