  • Instead of "boc-ca", where you have a little lift in the middle, extend vowel 'o' and sing through the phrase. Where we get to the decorative coloratura passages, the same applies. Although, revise how you attempt this part, sing through it with plenty of diaphragmatic support. My apologies if I sound negative it's not my intention. You have the promise of a wonderful tenor, and for a first attempt at Italian you did a cracking job, might I suggest you look at it again now? 4 years on? Brava!

  • A charming performance. I performed this piece as part of an examination some years ago now. I would advise however, as @iluvswaffles suggests, to focus on your vowels. Remember, these are a singers best friend and Italian is littered with them - a beautiful language to sing in. Really make the most of the opening consonant in 'Pur', this can help lift you into the vowel and create the flirtatious/confident effect. Observe the word 'bocca', try and get the word together without breaking so much.

  • Lovely tone and legato... but you're supposed to be singing of your desire to make love to a beautiful woman!

  • You're amazing! :) I sang this for solo and ensemble this year! But you have a wonderful voice! Keep it up!

  • excellent,,, with a wonderfull voice like that u deserve to do well! enjoy every min of your singing!

  • I'm doing this for my state solo contest::) Its a gorgeous song and you did amazing.

  • I'm doing this song for my college audition in two weeks. you did a great job!

  • 1st video i have found where some one actually sings the melismas (aka runs) correctly. nice voice and good job.

  • very nice.

  • Hey, i really enjoyed this, good job! i have been having singing lessons for about five years now and we have very similar voices! i have just brought a music book with assorted scores inside and this was one that was in there! once again good job!

  • absolutley heavenly!!! I am a lyric baritone. I wish I had more light mechanism to sing this as a tenor. Really great job!!!

  • Why don't you perform it in original composition? i would love to hear you singing this in the original composition.

  • Superb job!

  • so sweet

    !!!!

  • This is great! :-) Love your voice. Hope your study is going well.

  • NICE NICE tone! Love your vocal variations. I listened to your version to get some ideas on how to do this song. Nice job. The strongest part in my opinion was the crescendo on the first "Ah" run.

  • I'm sorry, I'm the one not studying from the partiture... Good Job!

  • but it is amazing...

  • you have an amazing voice, But you must study from the partiture...

  • やば!!

    かわいー顔に声にメロメロです!!

  • So wait... Amazing voice, handsome... can you dance aswell? >__>

Quite amazing really. You look really young though, how old?

  • @RavenHairedMaiden

Same question !! you seem really young and what you do is great ! great tenor !

  • Wow...handsome and a sultry voice. Just watch that you don't conduct what you're singing with your head. :) I do the same, but with my hands. It's a hard habit to break. That was a very enjoyable performance. Thanks for posting.

  • not only is this sooo beautifully done, but you are so cute too ;)

  • amazing voice :)

keep it up! wish you the best of luck.

p.s: ur pretty cute! XD lol jk

  • still sounds as good as two months ago after I've listened to many. now it is on my list of Favorites.

  • wow your voice is amazing! im only a sophomore in high school but i really hope to go to juilliard for opera studies after i graduate. but im in love with your voice. youve got so much talent!

  • Very Nice Robert!!

  • woah..dude you are such a great tenor! You sang it really well man! I am singing this in school but in a lower key...hope to see more videos of this! KEEP IT UP!

  • Thank you, thank you! I just recorded my college auditions last week, so I'll upload them soon. I appreciate you comment. : )

  • you inspire me to create my own videos and post it on youtube too haha

  • VEry nice. You have a beautiful tenor, but do consider your head movements. It's not necessary to throw your head backwards whenever you enter a high note. And do take care of your breath control! A couple of times you don't economize your breath, e.g. you breathe in the middle of a line just before 'piacer', and like Leo Slezak told his son Walter: no singer can exercize too much the capacity of his/her lungs.

    The old amateur singing teacher.

  • I love your voice and I'm glad you use it very well - I hope you never stop singing! I'll always watch out for your newer recordings - curious to hear how and where you improve as a model for myself. Thanks for posting this and others.

  • Thanks so much! My college audition recordings are coming up, so I'll try to upload them, since I think I'm doing it in a DVD format.

  • @dulcicantor I'm singing this song for a vocal recital. Its the first song I've ever sang that isn't in English, so I might need some help. Any tips for a newbie?

  • @iluvswaffles Do you know IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)? If not, it's about to become your best friend. It teaches you how to sing in any language without actually having to know what anything means (though you should also make sure you understand the meaning too). Make sure you're singing the syllables correctly. The judges will know if you're not pronouncing correctly, and they'll get you for it. Other than that, singing in Italian is very enjoyable experience.

  • @iluvswaffles Couldn't fit everything in the first box.

This piece is very bright and flirty, so play with and have fun with it! Use open vowels and make sure you're getting all the pronunciations for the words right. And don't push yourself too hard! If you are new to singing in foreign languages, or even singing in general, don't push yourself to do the runs if you just can't get them out right. Feel free to practice them, but if you know you're not going to learn them in time,

  • @iluvswaffles

make sure you know the other part well.

Good luck with it! It's one of my favorite songs to sing. :)

  • @TehJonneh Thanks a ton! This really helped :D

  • @iluvswaffles I'm glad to have helped! :)

    Vocalists gotta stick together. :P

  • @TehJonneh 'til the end :)

  • (The *high* note) not "nigh" hah. :)

  • Great natural instrument. Young- but definitely something very special there.

The visual aspect of your performance was not all there for me though- make sure you don't beat to the music with your hands and body (your right hand does this the most-its also very rigid)- this takes away from the expression that should be in your face.

Very stylistic though- maybe work a little more on dynamics and phrasing (The nigh note doesn't always have to be the loudest).

I can tell you LOVE to sing :D

  • Thank you so much! Yeah, this was over a year ago. I've since worked on standing still during my singing, haha. Looking back, it's kind of embarrassing that I sway so much, but I've come along way since then, trust me. Eventually I'll upload my new stuff.

My right hand, ahhh, you're so right. That had been a problem for awhile. I think that's changed haha. My hands always get clammy when I'm nervous, which is why it is extremely difficult for me to perform piano.

  • I look forward to seeing your more recent vids when you put them up. :) I'm sure you've improved ALOT!

I use to move my hands alot because I was a violist before singer and I wanted to like "play" what I was singing so I completely understand!

Goodluck with everything! How old are you, by the way?

  • That's exactly the problem that I had— playing while singing, haha.

Weird coincidence, but bear with me: I know your boyfriend, Tim. We went to Tanglewood together. I knew your name looked familiar, because on Tim's facebook page he mentions you. A lot. I was 16 then, but 18 now. Ask Tim about me, I'll be curious as to what he'll say.

I'm in the Juilliard Pre-College program and am working with Lorraine Nubar; I thought you might know her since you go to MSM.

  • Omg. Small world. I just added you on facebook. We have so many friends in common.

I know alot of people who have gone to/go to Juilliard Pre-college. I went to MSM Prep myself. :)

Tim's in class now, I'll ask him about you when he's out!

    :)

  • I actually deleted my facebook account yesterday because it was too much of a distraction, but I'm sure we'll meet each other at some point. That's so cool. Was Tim at the DZI as well? By the way, how did you find this video?

  • whoa! You hit those high notes amazinglly!! Most guys i know arent capable of that..but adding even more vibrato would make it rock(: The crescendo's were really put in the right place. BRAVO!!

  • Wow, grazie! My notes have gotten a lot better since, considering this was over a year ago. I really need to upload some new material

  • you're cute!!

  • Thanks. : )

  • Haha, thanks.

  • I Love your voice and the vibrato, phrasing, tone, and color are all consistent along with your intonation. But for your highest notes it would be cool if they were slightly thicker sounding (upper passagio) to add more opera flare. Overall, this was well done :D

  • Thanks. I think my high notes are better now that I'm older, but I was only 16 at the time. A lot of the richness of the high notes comes with age, and at the time (and now too), I was still a young tenor.

  • I agree Lol, but how old are you now?

  • EXCELLENT WORK. Did you realize you placed some of the words on the wrong notes? For instance, the quel soavee caro's are in the wrong place. still sounds excellent, in fact I find the way you sing it to be more appealing...

  • I've actually heard it different ways, and I know different music companies have different interpretations of the 24/26 standard Italian songs and arias. Most people have the Shirmer edition of the pieces, but I have a different edition (although the name isn't coming to me right now). At the beginning of the year, my teachers wanted me to get the Shirmer edition, and I found it significantly different than the edition I have.

  • Wow.

i only saw one smallllllll thing. the only thing that i noticed is that in some places your pronunciation sounded a little off (really only once in the beggining)

    So apart from that

    ------------

0.0 you have one voice on you :D did you go to a preforming arts school maybe?

  • Ha, I know. I think I said "che" instead of "con." I don't go to a performing arts school, but I do go to Juilliard Pre-College. : )

  • *envy, envy, envy*

    Juliard pre-college..... Agh!

I go to a program called SCAPA, its a highschool for creative and preforming arts (im in for singing)

  • Oh, that's awesome! Good luck there. That's so cool, a performing arts school.

  • You are incredible and amazingly gifted. I hope you continue to cultivate talent that God has blessed you with. It's not often that young guys like us enjoy classical voice. Continue working. You are awesome.

  • Thank you! I am definitely working to "cultivate my talent," as I am looking into a career as an opera singer. Good luck with your singing too.

  • you seem promising my friend in music!

it is so thrilling watching people of my age enjoying these beautiful music^^

hope seeing you on the stage to the world soon

  • HOW OLD ARE YOU??? You're voice is so mature for how old you look! Great Job! I'm doing this song for an audition piece so thank you so much for the great example ^_^*

  • Thank you so much! I was 16 when this was sung. Good luck with your auditions, it's such a beautiful piece.

  • Bravo, Robert! What a marvelous interpretation of this piece. Your voice is truly beautiful and the timbre and style of singing are perfectly suited to the spirit of the times in which the aria was composed. Again--fantastic job!
