Zangief is supposed to be Russian but he acts totally like an American WWE star. The jazzy theme is also very American. Not to mention the fact that there was NO pro wrestling in the USSR so there couldn't have been a guy like that at the time. They could have made him a Sambo player, a G-R wrestler or a weightlifter but pro wrestler? Weird. I like the character but he is completely improbable.

I wouldn't say he's cheap. I'd say the cheap ones are the players that choose projectile characters everytime I choose Zangief online. If I dodge the first fireball with the spinning clothesline, what makes them think I'm not going to dodge the other 300 fireballs they throw at me? His win quote is true though. Once he (the Zangief player) can get hold of the opponent just once, he's unstoppable.

I believe that out of the non-story related fighters, Zangief is the most popular one for a couple reasons:

1. Out of the original regular joes, he's the only one to have a theme in SFIV

2.He's a regular visitor in countless Marvel vs. Capcom/vs. Streetfighter fighters along with Ryu (God I wish they would bring those back to XBLA.

3.He's often the most used random fighter in the Street Fighter Movies.
