@FireChestProductions No, Color is not rolled into FCPX, but is more like a waaay better implementation of the CC tools in FCP 7. There's a fantastic introductory tutorial by "Colorgradingcentral" on Vimeo. Check it out!
@holyapple98 Well, for free, there's "CCP Episode 001: Intro to Color" on Vimeo, search"Color Primary video tutorial" on provideocoalition, Apple Color Tutorials on Creativecow PAID = Alexis Van Hurkman’s Encyclopedia of Color Correction as well as Color’s PDF Manual for Color which he also wrote. He also has a brand new Color Correction book out. Steve Hullfish’s “Art & Technique of Color Correction” Ripple Training’s Color DVD, Class on Demand Color DVD Curious Turtle's DVD
Hey there, friend. I love your demo. I use my YouTube to experiment with new grading styles a lot so, I don't really have much for showing my real skill in it. lol On the professional/client side of life, I was wondering if you've used Color in a Premiere Pro workflow for anyone? Reason being, I use Color, but they'll use Premiere to do native h.264 from dslr, but it wants to break down so easy in grading. Prores 422 just pushes further in my experience. How would you handle that? I'm stumped.
@pagelynch Hi, Premire has FCP XML so you could go that route. Google "Exchange between Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro CS5" there's a Dutch guy has a tutorial. Could prolly use Premiere >> AE >> FCP via the now free automatic duck plugins. Also, Color will accept an h.264 timeline from FCP. consider h.264 as the camera negative. You can grade that then spit out a proRes render. Just dont expect the h.264 to playback nice in FCP before sending it to Color but it will grade just fine.
@huggeebear....How do you "Layer Up" Do you do multiple layers in COLOR and send them over to FCP then adjust those layers or is there a way to see Layers on Layers or duplicate layers in COLOR? I am teaching myself COLOR right now.
@EGOSWORLD1 Hey man, I use secondaries as my different 'layers'. Typically contrast-only adjustments in Primary In, then colour and relighting in secondaries using keys and vignettes, a teensy bit of sharpening in colour fx then maybe a stylised curve or two and saturation boost in Primary Out. But it all depends on the shot. A lot of times just primaries in and or out are sufficient.
@SN0WSTR0NG I just learned by reading and doing. I read the colour correction books on FCP that you get from peachpit, the common factor among those being chapters by Alexis Van Hurkman. I also downloaded the studio 006 podcast from iTunes. I practiced on whatever footage I could gather from around the net, I enrolled at fxphd, and just practiced on many different press stills you can get from movie studio's press sites. There weren't courses back then but now there's loads out there. Practice !
No filters, just layering up of contrast and color. It's about as manual as you get. I don't really use the colofx room as it's quite hard to understand. Nodes confuse me :)
I had been editing in FCP7 for a while and color correct, and cheated, with mojo, today I finally started using color, and this demo reel really inspire me on the possibility that this powerful tool can provide in post! Superb, superb grading man!
@huggeebear Well just pick any one of these shots really, your favorite one out of the lot, and show us what you did with the color wheels and what not.
@huggeebear how about a breakdown tutorial on 0:54 ? its amazing how you make the flat footage and give it some life. How do you separate the person from the background and from flat to sharp at 0:40
That is amazing! I know FCP but have never stepped into color in depth wow!
