rever65 wonder if anyone remembers the guy who entombed his brand new 53 corvette in a brick garage. he only had 1 little window built and no door. it was to be opened in 2003. i remember the photo printed in cars and parts mag back in 78 when i was 9.
Its been 4 months since I visited this clip and I remembered I forgot to add this:
HAHAHAHAHA hahahaha HAHAHahahah HAH HAH HA HA Ha Ho Ho ... OMG..HAHA HA Ha HA HA HA HA HO HO HO ....oh please! HaHaH lol lol lo WTF! hahahaha hahah hahahahah ahaha! AAAAaaaaahhhhahahahahahahahahaha!
50 freaken years! people from all over the world flew in to see this. People paid big bucks just to have a seat in the stadium. World wide coverage! Mega pre-production light camera and action!. Now here it is ladies and gentlemen! A 50 year old pile of rusty ole 57 chevey that you can see at any ole dump.... Gotcha! and thanks for your money...Welcome to TULSA! Now get the F$%K outta here!
hahaha....yeah i can't believe it to what had they expect then...hhahahaha let's do the same thing with the king and ask money for it....ladies and gentleman..elvis has left his grave.....no advance, i am a big elvis fan....cheers!
The thing that I wondered about is this: I saw a video or read that they had covered the car in grease before they put the cover on it. By watching some of these videos it looks like much of the chrome is still in good condition. If it really was covered in grease, Why don't they actually wash this thing and let us see how it really looks?
Oklahomans did not build this car, all they had to do was store it for 50 years. They could not even do that. Oddly Oklahomans seem proud of their achievement of turning a pristine new car into rust. Welcome to Oklahoma, Americas Kazakhestan.
The car is more popular than ever due to the fact that it aged horrible as it did. You speak like your from San Fransisco. We have another Plymouth to be unearthed in 2048. When your city does cool things like we Okies do, then speak.
How could Oklahoma engineers dig a hole in the ground and not suspect that it might someday fill with water? Especially since concrete is porous and there is no drainage. I guess that's why they joke about Okie's.
The damned water... but the idea was good. Maybe someone can restaurating the car? I saw a lot of old cars in far more bad condition that was set back in a almost new condition (but with a lot of hard work and a lot of spare parts). Why don't start another try for 2057? With a new car and a better concrete-container, covered outside with 1" of seemless plastic and a better drainage?
I can't believe they never considered drainage, as water leaks were bound to happen. If water gets in, how is it supposed to escape? It's a shame it rusted away to nothing, because I think it was a great idea.
They did a test run lifting it doday and one of the workers looked under the tarp. He said there was some rust on the back fins but the rest looked nice.
They opened the vault this morning to prepare it for removal this Friday, and there was a couple of feet of water sitting in the vault. Doesn't look promising...
Great! I will be there, from Northern California. Look forward to seeing Nancy Hughes (golfingranny1 in this message thread). We will stay at the venerable The Ambassador Hotel.
It'd be amazing to see how the car looks when it is dug up! However considering there are a fair number of pre 57 vehicles still around in museums or with enthusiasts, it'd likely be in one piece.
Buried June 15, 1957 to be dug up June 15, 2007. It was part of a contest for the city's golden jubilee. Whoever guessed the population of Tulsa in 2007 the closest, they or their next living relative, would win the car plus a few items to go along with it. Problem is that all Chrysler products from '57 had terrible rust problems. Meh, we'll see.
Considering this video looks to have been done more recently than 15 years ago, I'd say probably not.. I'd love to see what it looks like when they bring it out, regardless of the condition.... if its in good condition its going to be worth a LOT of cash, if the city doesn't put it in a museum, or DaimlerChrysler doesn't buy it for a museum themselves.

The car had no real chrome on it. There was a shortage at the time so Plymouth used stainless steel instead.
callforhelp62 4 years ago
Bumpers, door handles and many interior trim parts are all chrome (not stainless) on this car.
ritchey65 4 years ago
The exterior has all three kinds of trim: stainless steel, regular chrome-plated pot metal, and anodized aluminum.

They'd have been better off if they had just parked it in the city impound lot for 50 years.
