As for the research, maybe you should do yours: Apocalyptica hasn't claimed any credit for the song, and has even said that it's not them.

This song is composed by Koji Kondo and arranged by Ryuichi Katsumata. It was played by a string quartet on the CD "Hyrule Symphony" Search amazon and/or google for that and "Zelda Medley"
