  • And now Florence Green is dead..

  • And now sadly there are none. May they RIP and our gratitude be forever

  • @bobgladstone Florence Green is still here.. she must be 111 by now.

  • @berserker276 Sadly now too gone forever but she was not a combat serving member of the RAF she served as a Steward in the Officers mess

  • @bobgladstone Still technically a member of the armed forces and therefore a veteran of WWI though? And yeah it is sad, I can't believe it really, The Lost Generation is now truly lost and WWI is now officially only in the history books. She was in the WRAF I think the Women's Royal Air Force.

  • @berserker276 I agree she did her bit as did all those back home in the municians factories, farms etc a tough time to live with death an ever present fear on a daily basis

  • @bobgladstone "How'd you like to be a mother or a father to a son never coming back?" I think the film My Boy Jack portrays that sadness quite well, it's about Jack Kipling in WWI who was MIA.. you seen it?

  • @berserker276 Having served myself and had a son serving in Afghanistan I can understand the stress and pain No I havent seen the film is it any good?

  • @bobgladstone It's a good film but it's not exactly a war film and it's quite sad, it focuses on Rudyard Kipling/man who wrote The Jungle Book and his son Jack who wants to fight in WWI but can't because of his poor eyesight.. I think you'd like it. And that means you're 32 years older than me according to your YouTube channel.

  • @berserker276 yes 51 years young :)

  • @bobgladstone Lol, still younger than both my parents. My dad is 65.. so you seen the film?

  • @berserker276 Not yet but will get hold of a copy to watch. Thanks

  • @bobgladstone I found out that Florence had her funeral today..

  • Grow not old as we are left grow old.

Age shall not wither them, or the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun; and in the morning.

    We will remember them.

  • anyone knows when the last austro-hungarian veteran died? or the last bulgarian? or the last african soldier in the colonies? or the last turkish soldier? or the last japanese?

I don´t think so but if, please tell me their names

  • RIP. i hope i have a long life like those brave souls

  • One official WW1 Veteran Left, Brittish Air Force Member Florence Beatrice Green being 110 years old!

  • @Mentaldpx And now she's dead unfortunately.. so depressing.

  • And in just three short years, they are all gone. Sound taps for the boys.

  • This is interesting to watch. Soon they'll all be dead. I bet it must have been amazing for the air force veterans to see the transition from WWI paper airplanes to super sonic jets.

  • @IndividualParties last to die where buckles and choules , they died this year

  • Man these guys were probably really healthy to live so long. i probably won't live that long.

  • Now there are none. RIP doughboys.

  • @harmagician There is one more. After her though, there's not a single person left, that's perhaps the saddest thing of all to me.

  • I remember Jack Ross, awesome guy. I just cant imagine what it would be like to be taht old and look back at your life, remembering what the war was like. They would have no friends left from back then. Lest We Forget

  • @frogjezz I typed in Jack Ross on Google and it come up with a Scottish footballer..

  • War until total victory as a first resort is always necessary to create the later conditions for peace

  • Claude 'Chuckles' is the very last, you should hear him speak he just died on May 5th 2011 he speaks about his life truly epic, 110 on his birthday could still talk; he was even telling jokes to the kids at the party trully amazing person. RIP

  • And then there were none. WW1 now passes into history and out of living memory. RIP to all the veterans and Claude Choules

  • @louisewhomackable There are no veterans now but WWI is not completely out of living memory. There are still some old people in Europe who were very young when it was fought and they surely recall it. Probably not for another ten years will it be gone from living memory.

  • @crepesoftime I was meaning people who actually fought in battle, not civilians. Of course there are still a few people alive who lived at that time.

  • Clauda Choules died i just found out, pretty sad makes me wanna cry..R.I.P.

  • RIP Claude Choules.

  • Is anybody left now? Why isn't it any german guys? thx

  • @PepsiTasteLikeCoke There's two, both Claude Choules and Florence Green are both still alive.

  • The day this fails to bring a tear to my eyes is the day I lose my humanity.

RIP each and every one of them.

  • didnt the last one just die?

  • @Pier2pie There's three left. American Frank Buckles who just celebrated his 110th birthday on February 1, Claude Choules of Australia, and Florence Green of England.

  • can u believe it was almost a hundred years ago that this war started? wow.

  • My Granddad Anton Schwoll survived WW! he was a 19 years old German soldier.

They must fight against a huge majority and better-equipped units, especially the Americans gave an unfair difference.

  • They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

    We will remember them

RIP all thoughs who have died, who were in the 'Great War'. All lines to the 'Western Front' have been cut :(.

  • there are only 4 veterans left Mr.Arbuckle(an ambulance driver near the wstern front),Mr.Choules(The royal navy last person to see the german nvy surrender in ww1),Mrs.Green( Royal Air Force Women's Royal Air Force served as a waitress),and Mr.Kowalski(a polish war veteran) those are the last reamainng WW1 veterans and I salute them all.

  • not a single turk german or russian.

  • why only from the americans canadian and british side there stil lives 2 german machinegunners.

  • Notice there are no German Veterans.

  • @Leon14096 ...the last German WWl soldier was Erich Kastner...he died on New Year's day 2008....he was 107 years old...

  • was jack ross wearing a bolton wanderers scarf

  • Say what you will about what started WW1 and Foriegn Policy, but god bless these individuals.

  • RIP those of you who have passed on.

  • i just cant believe they're alive!

  • its disturbing to think that just two years ago there were ten, but now only three

  • @Brambletail2 Yes, it really is, and I'm glad I am living now to see these last heroes

  • @StarWarsFreak24 there is only one left :(

  • @StarWarsFreak24 What of the Vets of Germany Italy the Austro-Hungarian empire the Russian Empire The Ottoman empire and Serbia surley they have at least one vet ??

  • Make that 2. RIP John Babcock

    died Feb.18, 2010

  • @CartBel

It's three again. 108 year old Florence Green of Britain was verified to be WWI veteran not too long ago.

  • Three now verified, but only two of whom are featured in this tribute.

  • Make that 3. Florence Green discovered in rest home in Norfolk, UK.

    God Bless John Babcock.

  • I know that Memorial Day is a U.S. Federal Holiday and I deeply honor all of our current war troops, Desert Storm Vets, Vietnam Vets, Korean Vets, and WWII vets. But being a big WWI buff, please let's not forget The Great War. God bless the surviving WWI vets and let us pray for all the Central Powers and Allied souls who died in that war.

  • nice vid good job

  • Henry Allingham AND Harry Patch within a week of each other- RIP. Harry, the last of the men in the trenches.

  • R.I.P HARRY PATCH

  • I hope he gets like the biggest funeral Britain has ever seen.

  • I've been at a festival for the last few days. OMG I didn't realise Harry died ;(

    I salute you

  • @lHoodlum Harry Patch was considered the last "Tommy" or trench fighter...

  • RIP Henry Allingham.

    :(

  • Harry Patch is the last one that will probably attend the 91st Armistice, since Mr. Allgingham & Mr. Stone deceased. Unless, Claude Choules shows up, but I seriously doubt that because he lives in Australia. But Choules did serve in the British Army.

  • Choules was actully Royal Navy, but I doubt he will ever come back home, the stress of flying would probably kill him.

  • Comment removed

  • Henry Allingham is 113!

  • no Henry Allingham is the last one

  • as of April 12, 2009 there are 6?

    no.

    there is only one

  • There are six, not just one.

  • teebee1984, to be honest i could not care. the americans might give ther lives in wars but they still are COWARDS NOMATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS

  • i seem to recall that we saved your asses twice. in ww1 we 117,000 americans died for YOUR causes. in ww2 we lost 104,000 "cowards" to save england and france.

call us cowards, but were the ones who come to your rescue when your on the verge of being annihilated

  • @richilina your right germany could easly take britan by storm if usa wasnt there

  • F-you

  • You know, that is a piss poor attitude. As to Foreign policy we didn't stick our noses into your business just as you didn't stick your noses into ours during our Civil War. We did how ever feed the allies supplies before entering both wars. Would you rather we did nothing before we entered those conflicts? Some people feel we should have stayed out of WWI completely. And more over we wouldn't have had a reason to go into Europe had Germany not declared war after the Pearl Harbor attacks.

  • galeknumber1 ... that is a DISGUSTING thing to say. Many many Americans gave their lives in both world wars and continue to do so. To call them cowards is contemptible, really it is you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • Agreed, the Americans fought alongside the Brits in both world wars. Whatever the wrongs or rights about their participation they were brave fighters and were certainly not cowards.

  • i would give all my limbs just to sit down and speak to a ww1 veteran for 15 minutes

  • wow thanks for posting this vid

i think WW1 vets didnt get the same recognition of other vets from other wars because WW1 is rarely discussed

  • Thanks indeed.

  • its very sad if you ask me

  • Sadly Pierre Picualt had passed away this month. unknown day right now. 8 veterans left. shall god be with them.

  • Thank you for posting this video.

  • You're welcome. And thank you for watching it.

  • @StarWarsFreak24 Nows theres just one as of May 5 :,,(

  • @StarWarsFreak24 And now there is only one survivor.
