I am from Ottawa, and I am a VERY proud Canadian. I will argue till the day im 102 that Canada is the best country the world has ever seen, and will ever see. I love our beautiful country so much, feel blessed to have been born here. From the Atlantic to the Pacific, our country is beautiful inside and out! I hope Obama enjoyed his time here.. and may I Quote Obama when I say " I love this country!"
There's not a country in the world better than Canada. I wasn't born here and have lived all over the world to pass the judgement.
However, there is no city in the world with people as sweet as Chicagoans. I was amongst the thousands of Canadians that Barack thanked for crossing the border to campaign for him and I got to experience Chicago and I was really, really surprised.
The people there are some of the most friendly people I've ever met.
french is part of the Canadian identiy. Canada has two founding nations, France and England, and we are officially bi-lingual as many european countries are. What's to feel sorry for? Canada isn't like the united states my friend, I am very proud of my country and its bi-lingual heritage... so I guess all I really have to say to you my american friend is.....Je pense que tu as besoin d'une éducation!!...
I mean i understand all that but what the hell is je pense blah blah mean...thats why im proud of my country we are united and speak one language.putiiiiiiiiiiiiiin
History shapes a country, not much we can do. France was the first country to settle Canada, then England. Sure things would be easier if we all spoke one language, but if things are easier they are usually a lot more boring! The bottom line is you can't change history:)
former Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, who is French-Canadian once said that if he could, h'ed travel back in time to warn the french troops that the english were coming at a major defeat the french suffered. His point was, why be worried about what we cannot change. We are here together now, so we better work together. And it is a struggle nutty, not all Canadians think the way I do, some hate Quebec. I just feel, it would be easier if we all spoke one language, but since when is easy any fun?
I love President Obama! I thought his visit to The Market while in Ottawa was a wonderful thing to do. That moment will be the highlight of my life along with many others!

it wasn't a bad day in Ottawa. About 1 C when Obama arrived. it gets a hell of a lot colder than that. I think that Moscow and the capital of Mongolia whatever it's called are ranked colder national capitals than Ottawa.
we intend on invading Canada so he had to check out all the stuff that we'll steal to help our economy. He's promised each American a Canadian slave and a few acres of land. i kid i kid.
How long would you have liked Obama to stay in Canada for? 6 hrs is plenty of time to talk for a "first meet'n'greet". You obviously have issues with him for other reasons, usually it's Christian conservatives or racists that are so bent out of shape over the guy. Get a grip, a little reality.
Hey, I'm happy that are taxes are being use the right way... Why this only cost us what...10...20 million... I don't know why we have to keep up with these 'Visits' if we their going to cost us so dam much! In the Ottawa Region alone we have over 5000 homeless persons... Aaa well, what do we know..We only vote...
I'm certain that they must of ask many for an answer.. Oh by the way only 1200 persons actually took of their time to go and 'tried' to see him if front of our parliament...
Why Canadians see this man like a god?! Obama doesn't wake up in the morning and thinks about Canada. He cares for American interest. Hey the door is open for canadian to live in the U.S - if they like obama so much. It sad that Canadian s don't even follow Canadian politics. Which that effects for more on us then the U.S
"It sad that Canadian s don't even follow Canadian politics. Which that effects for more on us then the U.S "
It's sad when ignorant people make assumptions based on nothing. Actually, Canadian voter turnout per capita is higher than the US. And for some reason you have a problem with us being too nice to Obama? Wow, okay there. So.. do you have any legitimate arguments against this country? Or are you just hating on Canada to score internet brownie points?
Dear Sir/Madam Dublian please change your attitude from hatred to love because president Obama since he took the stage he always talk about love, peace, equal opportuinty to all classes of the soceity and socail preform after the big mess mr bush lett behind unless you do not support all the above.
We follow Canadian Politics, it's our own country. You can't imagine another country following your politics because most americans know nothing about the rest of the world. For your information, he's being viewed as a global leader - and that is what he is - America has the world in a monopoly at the moment, so every move they make affects the rest of us. It's in everyone's personal interests to make sure America doesn't make another mistake. We're glad Americans finally made the right choice.
Sadly you are right as rain. Most people don't get it. My dad said it best....America sneezes, the world catches the flu. Its so damn sad there is a good amount of ignorant close-minded Americans that believe the contradicting bull being spewed across the country.
This was the first time I was eligible to vote and I can't even begin to tell you how blown away I am, still, of reactions around the world to this election :)
Canada welcomes the new American leader who has now renewed that shared friendhship and mutual respect for our respective borders by making this his first State visit. President Obama is certainly a man if true integrity. Here's to giving Peace a chance.
That's the first time I've seen a Mountie talk like that. Seriously. Usually they are very stoic.....and non-speaking.
To all you Obama-haters out there, Canadians love the guy, so, deal with it. He's getting wall-to-wall coverage on TV here. Unlike former President Bush, who Canadians came out waving for, alright, but with one finger....and store owners were told to board up their windows because of potential protests. This is a love-in.
I agree with most of what you said actually my post should have read he did well considering he was not prepared to be pres lol I would argue though the economic crisis is not entirely his doing deregulation of housing started with the dems Bush fought to stop it when he came to office although not nearly hard enough.
I acknowledge what you said, but I guess I am cynical when it comes to Bush and Cheney. I just felt like they could not be trusted and there only concern was for the haves and the have mores.
I think Bush couldve done better if he surrounded himself with different people . I never trusted Cheney at all I do believe Bush had the best of intentions.
Ottawa isn't the coldest capital in the world... that title belongs to Ulaan-Baatar of Mongolia. Ottawa is actually the 7th in line for coldest capital.
Anyway, welcome to Ottawa! I just might end up being one of the faces in the crowd that welcomes you!
Nobody said he was Canada's leader. People are just happy its not Bush! Remember this was a media thing. The crew most likely asked people to say welcome.
Its rediculous to some yes, but to others meeting a world leader that has a great spirit and a time where leaders and countries need to stand by each other I don't think saying welcome to Canada is shameful. Its very respectful and polite. Why do we have to follow others and not say anything?
They said welcome to Canada!! Nothing wrong at al!!
I don't understand.Welcoming a new president on his first official visit outside the united states is shameful?Alot of ordinary canadian folk from all walks of life offering a welcome is hero worship.Dude you need a lesson in ethics!Oh well I guess when a nation is known for it's hospitality, generousity and peace loving nature as well as being listed as the best place in the world to live makes others bitter.I hope you find your happy place at some point in your life.
We do respect ourselves and we're glad that America has finally shown some self respect and elected a capable man for the times.
The reason why America WAS respected was because of moral superiority. you guys were the light of the world....now after Bush policies you have gone back to the basics to start the fire anew.
Perhaps, but how is it any different than all of those screaming people at the inauguration chanting "Obama! Obama! Obama!....WOOOOOO!!!" now that's almost cultic to assume he will be great before he's done anything.
All these Canadians are doing is being the courteous people their known for being.
No, thank YOU, weatherbee, for not taking our generosity as meekness or something negative. Canadians are naturally very friendly people, I don't see anything wrong with welcoming another nations leader into our Capital.
i love my city!

Ottawa isn't the coldest capital in the world... that title belongs to Ulaan-Baatar of Mongolia. Ottawa is actually the 7th in line for coldest capital.
Anyway, welcome to Ottawa! I just might end up being one of the faces in the crowd that welcomes you!

unbsjmba 2 years ago
Nobody said he was Canada's leader. People are just happy its not Bush! Remember this was a media thing. The crew most likely asked people to say welcome.

I agree this is shamefull hero worship he has done nothing significant except give some self glorifying speeches. It's friggin rediculous
cprince80 2 years ago

@bullpup45
We do respect ourselves and we're glad that America has finally shown some self respect and elected a capable man for the times.
The reason why America WAS respected was because of moral superiority. you guys were the light of the world....now after Bush policies you have gone back to the basics to start the fire anew.
GO AMERICA!! :D

Joxman2k - Good comment, well said, I totally agree!

Perhaps, but how is it any different than all of those screaming people at the inauguration chanting "Obama! Obama! Obama!....WOOOOOO!!!" now that's almost cultic to assume he will be great before he's done anything.
All these Canadians are doing is being the courteous people their known for being.

Thank you, Canada, for such a generous welcome to our president.
weatherbee100 2 years ago 13
No, thank YOU, weatherbee, for not taking our generosity as meekness or something negative. Canadians are naturally very friendly people, I don't see anything wrong with welcoming another nations leader into our Capital.
