It's not the end of the world but the "85" may be a "65" the way rubber stamps sometimes look. W'house was sold in the '80s to White Consolidated Corp and Westinghouse Broadcasting was left alone. By the '80s Japan had flooded the fan market with plastic so yours just doesn't fit in age-wise. If you have a rubber cord with non-polarized plug it's '60s. But enjoy your treasure regardless.
I think you may be right because the cord is not polarized in fact I even thought to myself I'm pretty sure Westinghouse didn't make a lot of fans in the 80s, so you are right and I appreciate your advice.
I have the same one. Had a semi-rubber cord that was all cracked and split open and crumbling. I could not figure out how to open the S.O.B. to get to where the cord was connected, so I cut the cord at a spot where the original cord was good, and spliced in a extension cord as a new wire.
Thanks for the thorough demonstration. Just curious, where did you see the date 1985?! The company didn't make appliances much past 1970 to my knowledge, maybe it was a repair stamp. Based on the blades and switch your fan seems to be a crossover between the heavy 1959 blue 5-fin and the lighter weigh 1965 blue 3-fin style. Nice catch.
I'm thinking that's a 1960's fan. Myles is the resident Westy expert.
I'd fix the cord and wiring issues before using it a lot. Also, that "buzz" could be loose laminations or windings in the motor. You may want to check it out.
they had one of these at the church i went to for a summer thing when i was little. they also had a vintage table fan and 2 idk what ud call it they were like whole house fans and the one at the end of the hall i was afraid of cuz it made a really scary noise to me when i was little.
Mine doesn't make a buzzing noise at all.
