as an American, with a wife from Philippins, I have visited there many times. The people are wonderful...and it is always in US foreign policy interests to help arm the Filipinos against communist aggressors such as the Chinese. The issue is not about China taking the Spratly Islands, but the claim of the entire South China Sea as theirs and they call it "Chinese water". Of course, that is only based on nothing but greed and delusion. I think, that part of the ocean must be called Southeast Asia Sea from now on. I can't imagine the terror it will bring to trade and security in that region when China establish military base or build nuclear plants in the Spratly.

@SHINTARO249 The issue is not about power and capabilities, it's about politics and legalities. China would have a lot to lose economically if it would go to war with with 5 ASEAN countries that lay claim on the Spratlys. Remember that as the factory of the world, China takes a lot of its raw materials from Southeast Asia and also has huge ethnic Chinese populations in these countries as well, not to mention Filipino Chinese making up 10-15% of the Philippine population.
I really like Filipinos, cuz those i know are very friendly and hardworking, but politics is another issue.so i will advised our Asian allies to not always rely on us, but should seek to cooperate more with other emerging countries like China, India, and Brazil. No hard feelings, I'm just stating a fact, China is already a world power and there's nothing much we can do about it, though i wish there was. but we have to leave with that. Thats life

The issue is not about China taking the Spratly Islands, but the claim of the entire South China Sea as theirs and they call it "Chinese water". Of course, that is only based on nothing but greed and delusion. I think, that part of the ocean must be called Southeast Asia Sea from now on. I can't imagine the terror it will bring to trade and security in that region when China establish military base or build nuclear plants in the Spratly.

We Vietnamese have called that sea "East Sea" for thousands of years. Only you Filipinos recently renamed it "West Philippines Sea". You used to call it "South China Sea" in the past. If Anybody here... loves to read novel books... i recommend reading ( "Sky Masters by: Dale Brown" ) it is very graphic and as current to what is happening today... with the Spratly problem... you all might like to know how the ill equipped Philippine Navy with only one Destroyer.. wiped out the whole Chinese South China Sea Fleet...

@SHINTARO249 The issue is not about power and capabilities, it's about politics and legalities. China would have a lot to lose economically if it would go to war with with 5 ASEAN countries that lay claim on the Spratlys. Remember that as the factory of the world, China takes a lot of its raw materials from Southeast Asia and also has huge ethnic Chinese populations in these countries as well, not to mention Filipino Chinese making up 10-15% of the Philippine population.

I really like Filipinos, cuz those i know are very friendly and hardworking, but politics is another issue.so i will advised our Asian allies to not always rely on us, but should seek to cooperate more with other emerging countries like China, India, and Brazil. if you are an american who fought alongside with the filipinos during the ww2, korean war, vietnam war and so on. you will understand how fierce filipinos are, if you are one of the chinese soldiers who fought against the filipinos during Korean war( battle of hill earie and yultong bridge) you'll know they are a force to recon with. ill equipped but will never give up.
