Well, I'd rather having one big 130" 1080p projector or one big HDTV than this shitty x24 1080p monitors stacked to fuck next to each others.. I really don't see what's so cool about having x24 1080p monitors with these shitty bezels, just to add more pixels? is that what you're trying to achieve? then what?
Go ahead.. ruin your experience by just raising more pixels, so stupid...
you guys are missing the point... if you read the uc's comments you would realize that this is not about gaming quality but hardware possibilities. The fact is if you can find the funds for a wall; that size and projectors this would blow anyone away (in terms of resolution,) i know most viewers out there (including myself) cannot afford this but the fact that we may never own this setup does not mean people should be discriminating it... please think before you bitch.
Hi, my company is looking to build a 18 monitor video wall (6 wide x 3 tall). I contacted AMD ATI about their video cards and they said that their Eyefinity 6 only supports up to six monitors. We're just looking to extend our desktop so that the wall is one long desktop in Windows 7. Did you have to use some custom program/driver to get this to work?
@Lycc825 You could power 18 screens with three video cards. They used 4 in this video. Don't know about any custom software but i guess you would still need somewhere to plug the 18 monitors into. Maybe 6 projectors off one video card would work?
Not many people seem to be getting that this is 24x1200p. The screen resolution here is astounding. Sure, you can get a big display or use a projector, but at a fraction of the resolution. At 12270x5160, this is almost literally 5x the vertical resolution of 1080p. To put that in perspective, between 480p and 1080p it's just over a 2x jump in vertical resolution. With bezel-free screens or (better yet) projectors, this would be an absolutely awesome setup.
Bleh, 24 screens too much. I'd rather have 24 computers, line up my screens like this, and just use synergy, and for big stuff put a 50" tv or projector to watch.
I have a Sapphire HD6950 with 2xDP, 2xDVI, and 1x HDMI port. Can i use 3 monitor if i plug 1 to HDMI and 1-1 to DVI? Coz its dont work for me.. help plz!
@porschedrifter The idea for a projector would be hook up 24 projectors. This is 24 1080p screens tied together. Due to the space constraints at the launch, they were only 24" screens. If I had my way, it would have been 24 projectors across a very large wall.
@mavflysagain thats not the point, the point is, with an projector, even if the quality is a lil inferior than 24 monitors like you say, you will be able to see ALL the image, and not through "bars" the spaces between the monitors, i saw your video, and i can barelly see the plane :o i would prefer to buy an projector and wee the complete image than see the image with black stripes innit... :\
@KazPeRinzky Google "edgeblend". Not one projector, 24 projectors. The technology is available. For the demo purposes, I didn't have the space for projectors, so it became the concept of 24 HD video outputs being driven by one PC. You could probably get monitors for about $200 or projectors for about $500. Then you just need a 50x30 foot display surface..
@mavflysagain yeah it could be that, but i dont like the fact that you see the game in "bars", its cool, to see a game like really big, because you feel more "in the game" you know, but i would like to have a clean image.
@mavflysagain I am rather confused about this all. I currently have three monitors in my Eyefinity setup, i'd like 6. So my question is instead of buying one 6870 eyefinty 6 edition card could i simply buy another 5850 and output the other three monitors to that card? So three monitors out of one 5850 and three out of the other and then make an eyefinity display (one big screen from the six with two cards). I don't wan't to sell my 5850 currently but im not fussed on buying another.
Three 1080p monitors give you a great Eyefinity experience at a low cost, the triple 23-incher setup I'm eying is about as expensive as a single quality projector. `3`
To be honest, if I wanted a display that large, I'd used an overhead projector. As a proof of concept thing, yeah, kinda cool that you hooked up that many monitors.
Guys I think the point here is the fact we have technology today to do that its not so much "Go do this yourself its an awesome setup! :D" I think their just showing that its possible to do it.
a projector setup would cost a shit ton of money, but on the bright side If you do the same thing with projectors the size of the screen would be like an IMAX theatre and NO BORDERS. projectors are the way to go with eyefinity.
Why aren't there any monitors with ultra thin borders? I can't belive that this isn't possible yet to produce a display that only has a few milimeters of plastic sourrounding it.
i find this very annoying personally. the curve monitors are gonna be the better route for me. the edges of monitor are just too distracting for me to look past. bothers me.
@waytomuchsparetime, if he buys a projector the images would get bigger, such as the plane that would still take up almost the entire screen, the reason he did this is to get a full view of the surrounding.
If we could have borderless monitors that can be connected into a seamless display then that would be nice. Just imagine stomping heads in a shooter game on a display that big!
@PkerWhomerang The mechanism used for the screen includes doing the rendering by the GPU for the area that is not visible. The viewport (screens) only present 55 million pixels. But the GPU is rendering all of them. If you look towards the end of the video you can see that the GPU is rendering under the bezel. Put differently, the setup is 4 quadrants. Each quadrant has a 3x2 set of screens to render. It renders this as a single surface and randr places the viewports over it.
@mavflysagain isn't that a huge waste? That's 8 million pixels worth of GPu power that could otherwise go to boosting the awful framerate minimum this setup is getting.
@PkerWhomerang It's actually the most effective. Otherwise you are rendering 24 individual frames vs 4 individual frames, there is an overhead in setup for each frame. The framerate was about 30-40 fps. The application itself caused the artifact in the last quarter of the video.
@BowChickaWoWo32 Because that would only be a maximum of 1920 x 1080p whereas this is 11,200 x 4800p. 1080p would look awful on something that big, it would be blurry as hell, almost like if you put this video in 240p.
@MrBrackdown Each one of those monitors is running a high resolution. Just one gigantic monitor would look like shit if it was stretched that large. The black borders suck, but this is more of a way to show things to come and how fast the video card is to render that many monitors at that high of resolution
Its funny how many of you are saying to buy projectors or large TVs. Size is not the issue here, its resolution. All of these monitors together are pushing at least 20x the resolution of a projector, which equals 20x the detail.
@MrBrackdown It was a technology demo. It's intent was to show 24 displays driven by 4 cards on one machine. The real use would be 24 projectors creating a 360 immersive environment.
All that money and time and they couldn't find some small bezel monitors? Those bezels are huge. Fucking monitor companies need to get the lead out and make some no bezel monitors, or at the very least more monitors with super small bezels.
i never knew u could set up multiple different cards without crossfire or sli at the same time on 1 computer, could you do this on 1 monitor? and for example my 5870 with my 9500gt?
