@klongyaw7 That is the magnificent and deeply under-rated Geoff Whitehorn on guitar. The drummer is the excellent Mark Brzezicki (hope I spelled that right). Sadly, BJ Wilson passed away many years ago.
no words can describe how great it was to be around sixteen years old when this band and many others were creating a new genre of music, although i,m 62 now and maybe things could be better in my life ! i know no one can take this music and the great times away from me.I,m sure their are a lot of people out there who can relate to this!!
I encountered this so for the first time in 1994 in another arragement for a highschool choir. This was my very first meting with Procul Harum, and I loved it!
I'm really enjoying the big setup with the Danish National Orchestra here...
@ the subject of why we dont get more hits on great groups like this : My guess is that people are in too much of a hurry today to sit down and do what's best for them : Listen to good, non-easy-listening music!
saw original shows by PC and others. These guy and others of the time created timeless pieces. Thank God that I was there to witness, and that there are others who will continue to listen, watch, and hopefully propogate music such as this to their bretheren. Quality dodes not die if appreaciated, and this should be. NOTE, watch the other vids from this show, It only gets better.
Such a low amont of views, such a shame. I do notice, and rejoice at the amount of positive comments from younger peope who were not there when this music was first conceived, and performed, and appreaciate what was created by these musicians. I fortunately, ( or unfortunately) as this makes me that old, was there to have purchased these albums when 1st released, and saw original shows by PC and others. These guy and others of the time created timeless pieces.
I go back and forth and back and forth regarding what my favorite Procol song is. What a great performance this is! 44 years after their first lp and Gary still sings great. Awesome, truly awesome!
thanks to God for the gift of hearing & musical geniuses.Gary Brooker evn @ his age still has the pipes plus singing while sitting down is difficult.
The Delaware concert seemed to be a huge success. The audience ROARED their applause at the end. Of course there were miking problems with the chorus. In Denmark, every chorus member had a mic, but here they had 1 for every 3 and some of the mixing suffered. Gary, Geoff and the rest of the band socialized big time with us chorus members, and not at all with the symphony! Singers are so much more fun. We all had a ball and Gary was very complimentary to the chorus.
They're coming to Wilmington Delaware December 4 to sing with the Delaware Symphony and I will have the privilege of preparing the 24 singers from the OperaDelaware chorus to sing backup! It's a good thing I don't have to sing, too, because I could never get through it. I'd be a basket case. I've been treasuring this song for over 35 years. Can you BELIEVE how Gary can still sing this song? Those top notes are high A-flats!
@melbapatti Sounds nice, Patti... Looking forward to the concert in Copenhagen on Jan 14. and to hear Gary sing the high notes - I'm sure he is still capable, but you can tell us about that on Dec. 5.
@melbapatti I now live in Indianapolis. I lived in Delaware for 28 years. Saw their performance in Philly in '92 or '93. I envy you and sooooooooooooooo wish I could have been there with my Delaware friends.
BTW, I used to be a member of the Dickenson Theater Organ Society. Nice to "meet" you :)
This DVD has to be one of the greatest rock performance capturings in the annals. How ingenious to team up with this Belgian ensemble. Imo, the greatest rendering of A Salty Dog. It'll never be topped, ever...
My band at the time (Noah's Ark) had the great privelege of opening for PH on what must have been their first American tour back around '67. It was a new club in NJ. On the bill was Buddy Guy Blues Band and Sunshine Co. They were and still are one of my favorite bands of all time. Thank you Maya for posting!
I saw them too in Philly at the Academy of Music. They opened with "Shine on Brightly". Rarely do you see a band get better with age but with Procol Harem, I think I'm seeing the exception. What a voice. Of course BJ Wilson, Matthew Fisher and the rest are missed but Gary Brooker carries on the tradition. I wonder if anyone under the age of 40 has any idea how great his band is and the incredible legacy they've left behind.
I saw them do this at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia in the early 70s. It was incredible then and it's better now. The best anti-war song ever for my money. Thanks.

If anyone is curious, the choir is chanting the following:
non navis acta hieme portum posse capiet nisi dominum patrem filiumque et spiritum sanctum
si quidem gubernator veritate cursum tenebit ad caelum profecto navem itinere recto reget
ventus veritatis semper navem diriget ad portum

"A ship driven by winter storms will not reach port unless it will take, as its master, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit"
"If indeed the helmsman will hold his course by the truth, then certainly he will steer the ship by a straight course toward heaven"
"The wind of truth will always lead the ship into harbour"
