@nhlpens Well, soap dries your pores, while shaving cream and moisturisers actually soften your hairs, giving you a cleaner and smoother shave, so definitely try a moisturiser.
Other than that, try shaving against the grain, which is usually in upward motions. This will make the razor cut the hair easier.
As for cuts and razorbumps, make sure you are using a razor this is not dull. A dull razor gives the skin more irritation.

Shave down to your your jaw...then stop... do both sides of your face from your ear side, all the way to the edge of your chin/mouth...shave as if you're trying to go for a goatee basically, leave the moustache and chin area to last... use little strokes at your jawline when you have to curve the razor around your jaw

For a straight razor (at least 50 - 60 bugs for a useable?!) you need a leather strop, grindstones sometime. A trad. safety razor (20 - 40 bugs for good ones) just needs quite cheap blades from time to time. At the end/over the years no huge difference. -- Just can recommend double edge/trad. safety razors. Definite different than Mach 3 and Co. and suitable for daily use

Best thing to do after is wash you face with warm warter keeping the pours open Then use an exfoliant to remove all grease and soap from the pours as soap can lead to acne. Never use aftershave after shaving lol. If it stings then it cant be doing any good. Instead after exfoliating wash your face with cool water then aply moisturiser to the shave area. This is great for the skin and acturly leaves a smoother feel rather than a crisp dry feel.
I am 26, have been wet shaving for half my life (13yrs)... except for a very fleeting flirtation with electric shavers (worst!!) today i had my first shave with the Merkur HD,..(using my existing badger brush and proraso).. can say it is one of the best shaves i have had, have thrown out my cartridge razor!!.. you can buy 100 feathers for $40 where i live (AUS) ....compare that to 6 gillette fusion blades for $30

@dpgiaca97 your gonna have to shave it sometime. it depends how old you are also. if 12-15 i wouldnt cuz that could cause acne and pimples. it happened to me. dont buy a gillette fusion or proglide or shick quattro or whatever. shave down with the direction of hair growth. dont go against for a while till your skin gets used to it.

One should focus on the lather much more. You need to make it more watery and creamy. And you use too much pressure on the razor imo. Lighter longer passes is the way for the perfect shave. 3 light passes and its bbs with no burn.

Good video. relathering and doing a seconds pass either with the grain or across the grain may be a little better than doing the touch-up on your bare skin. These razors really do well with reducing the hair in a couple passes, unlike using a multi-blade waste of money and causing a whole bunch of irritation from trying of obliterate all the hair in one pass.

Good video. relathering and doing a seconds pass either with the grain or across the grain may be a little better than doing the touch-up on your bare skin. These razors really do well with reducing the hair in a couple passes, unlike using a multi-blade waste of money and causing a whole bunch of irritation from trying of obliterate all the hair in one pass.

@EasyBedpost He pretty much did say it is good because you cant improve on a razor like this. They do give you a better shave in my opinion and the blades are pretty cheap and last the same time as the cartridge razors.

Mark, your argument holds ground. I asked my dad recently if he ever used a DE razor in his life. He was born in 1948 (which means he would have started shaving around 1964) and he said he's never used one, but that he's always used the cartridge style razor. I was sadly disappointed and surprised at the same time.
