  • like it , love the rocky beat, great vocals, cheers The Makem Folk Singer

  • nigger

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this clip... One of my all time favourites.

  • I love the way just before swarbs first fill RT moves across the stage so the battle can commence!

  • love them! :)

  • kippevel

  • Gute Verson!!

  • Swarb is *the* best fiddler, FACT ;)

    No really, he's superb. Respect.

  • Wee bit surprised that none of ye acknowledge the fiddler... Yer man Swabrick... Without whom all of this would be nothing...

  • Swarb and Rich truly invented fantastic music - folk, rock, dare I say it? Folk - psychadelic rock. This and Sloth will not be bettered.

  • Chris does a pretty good job!

Although I prefer Simon singing it nowadays. He's really made it his own.

  • Brilliant brilliant

  • Chris did a great job and has a wonderful voice. She is brave to step into Sandy's shoes and idd a great job . Great swarb vid too !

  • Her voice is nt unlike sandy s

  • The only person who could have done this justice is also the only singer I prefer to Sandy...LINDA THOMPSON...Richard did work on a solo album of hers a few years ago, and it would be wonderful to have Sandy's old best friend pay tribute to her work. Blessings

  • Swarb is just a legend!! Its great to see him up again, awsome at crop, roumors of him even singing next year!! that would be something not to miss!!!!

  • yeah he was on form 4 sure

  • Great to see Swarb look so much better wasn't it??

  • fantastic song!!! wish i was going to Cropredy!! :(

  • 2 bad i was there it was amazing

  • lucky u was it fantastic?

  • can't wait to see this live for my first visit to Croperdy this August!

  • Legendary music - wait for the 'Sham' evolution!

  • Isn´t she Gay Woods, former singer from Steeleye span? It sounds like her...

  • No, that's Chris While, former singing in one of the many Albion Band lineups. Watch out for this lineup performing the WHOLE OF LIEGE AND LIEF at this years Cropredy

  • This song draws me to it!

  • Liege and Lief is a timeless masterpiece. I first heard it when I was in high school out here in Oregon USA and it literally changed my life. Thanks for posting this.

  • A big thanks to you Ric Fairburn; I have bought tickets for Cropredy and will be there for the Friday and the Saturday - looking forward to it hugely!

  • this is great, the original line up except of course sandy. they are also playing at croperdy this year with this line up on the friday, rt and his band and fairport on the sat! book now! ( PS great clip, but the bbc should have showed it proper!)

  • Yes, singer v. good & we can't bring Sandy back. Swarb. still right on, so is the whole band. - Nice one.!

  • Wow! An FC fan until "Full House" they drifted out of my life when RT left. Last year I rediscovered the music. Watching this video brough it was a welcome surprise to see RT and Swarb playing again. I was impressed with the singer; similar tone and phrasing to Sandy's original. Was this a one-off by RT? I have always thought that his original sound on the Fender and style of lead playing could have been used more prominently since FC. A big thank you to whoever put this up.

  • You should check out the Cropredy Festival this August - RT will be playing this year, promises to be special as it's Fairport's 40th anniversary

  • Thanks so much for posting this, great to see Swarb&RT together.Who was the drummer? Sounded like Dave Mattacks, but could have been GC,cymbal in the way!

    Regards,drr.

  • Has to be DM - it's not Gerry's drum kit, his is green

  • Smiles...they went on, didnt they...?

    Great song and singer too!!!

    Loving it!

  • I'll send this to my youngest nephew. Yes thats his name. He loved the original.

  • Hey, I'm not complaining. If it hadn't been for you and your camera I wouldn't have been able to see this. Thanks!

  • Did you turn the camera off for a moment because you thought it had finished? <.<

  • Caught me out! Yep - sorry about the edit! neil W

  • I love this song! Every year at Cropredy I look forward to this one! RT rocks!

  • Wow, there's a nice way to start the day Neil. Ray or Tullist from Folk Forum noticing. Got anything from the Maart, DM years? Lost my Birmingham 91 video, only have All Comes Round. Anybody got video of Jethport Tullvention 87? Nice dealin Swarb!

  • Lets hope they all play again at Cropredy next year!

  • I'm sure Sandy was smiling in heaven when ths was bineg played!

  • awesome! doesn't sound to far off from the original!

  • Thanks Jeff! Chris While does a really feisty vocal, and RT/Swarb play so well together! Done on a Canon Digital Camera, after a bottle of wine or two! Neil

  • Yeah, they had free wine at this event, and it was hard to resist (I was the only one at my table drinking water). Thanks so much, Neil, for capturing this; it was a high point of the awards. I can't believe I'll be seeing them again at Cropredy in only about two weeks!

  • And, rain or no rain, what atreat this year. The Lieg and Lief line-up (Sandy in spirit), Richard Thompson Band and his appearance with the band on Saturday night. All that, and Lulu as well!

  • Musically it doesn't, vocally .......

I think Chris does a fine job and she's very brave for taking it on here & Cropredy too but let's be honest - it's only a pale imitation of Sandy's version.

Not meant to be anti-Chris, more pro-Sandy

  • no one can match Sandy Denny I will say that much but I'm also giving credit where credit is due. Chris had big (figurative) shoes to fill.

  • I think the vocal matches the Sandy Denny one, to be honest. It's not really a "reinvention", as you say it does much the same job, but I think it sounds as good - it's just not the original...

  • Fairport Live (A Moveable Feast in the US) this isn't. It's hard to beat Sandy, of course, but Simon has done quite a good job at taking on this song. Listen to the Cropredy Capers box and there's quite a few wonderful versions of Sandy's songs. This one is't great.

  • Chris does well, but she lets it get too talky at times, and too bluesy (never thought I see myself write that!) at others.

Her voice is great, don't get me wrong. I can't think of anyone alive who has a better voice for this. OK, Julianne Regan, possibly...

But the way Chris decides to sing the song is not entirely to my taste. Only about 90% ;)
