@ayeyotray2 i dident have the right grit of sand paper at the time but anyway use a rely fine grit and basically do the same motion as you would when stropping. move back words and try not to change the angle of the edge
I just checked the classic KA-Bar USMC is heaver than this tanto, so do not be to stressed about it being to heavy. and it is cheaper. much better looking choice too.
that is a thick blade but if they made then full flat ground instead of "traditional" convex i think it would make for a more tactical blade plus how cool would it be if hanwei came out the the first ever full flat ground katana that would be pretty cool plus it would cut down on some weight like the do with the bo-hi but u wouldn't need 1
Just to be a smart-ass it is a tanto shape. But there are a lot of blade geometry for Japanese blades lol. I would LOVE one in a unokubi zukuri geometry. Very cool knife though. I have had an eye on it for some time, I will have to pick one up now..
@ZentetsukenVII nice the unokubi zukuri is effen cool but i dont have it. but i do have a revue up for the raptor Nanbokucho Katana. good sword . got to love the tip on the unokubi zukuri, reinforced tip for the win. if you like that geometry check this out. Chris Reeve Knives Umnumzaan.
@jordantheok Yeah I own the raptor shinogi. Great sword, I have cut ALOT of bottles, mats, bamboo hit my cutting stand really hard (its wood) and thereis zero edge damage. Not even a scratch on the blade. My buddy is looking for a second hand nanbokucho. Hes like 6'6 and he needs a longer sword. Hanwei really makes good blades.
@ZentetsukenVII Ya that's my big bro as well. he is 6ft 3 or 4 and uses normal katanas as KO-dachi. Hell to spar against him; to beat him i need a Italian long sword, an ar15, three hand guns and a wal-mart sack of pineapple cut explosives. lol yup hanwei makes good stuff.
I don't understand what you are saying about the temper. Tell me how you can tell the difference between differential hardening and through-tempering by touching up the edge? Mine definitely has an acid-etched hamon, and seems to be the same hardness on all parts of the blade (informal testing with a file).
Thank you for reviewing this knife. I really like the style of tantos, but at the same time something tactical. So I've been looking for something exactly like this. Had considered the hisshou and hissatsu from CRKT, but was a little put off by the lack of a guard on said knifes.
Anyways... this looks like it should be right up my alley. I'm a little sad though that you seem to suggest that it's not so good for slashing, which I think is a very useful technique.
@yothereDK actually it is good at slashing, just not as good as a 5mm thick blade would is for this blade shape. But, there are some really good things about that thickness
@vincentninja68 also since i am thinking about it Boker Plus Elegance Kwaito though i dont personally recommend boot carry i think these will do well for it : )
lovely blade. I would love to see a review on it from you, I value your opinion pretty highly. I watched your tactical wakizashi review, which led me to buy it.
@vincentninja68 thank you vary much that is what i do this for. yup as soon as i have money to get one it is on a shot list of blades i cant live without so imma get it
This would be illegal in Texas as it is longer than five and one-half inches. If it is illegal it Texas... it is probably illegal in most states as well, hahaha. ;)
Not illegal in Texas unless you are carrying it. It is not illegal to own said knife, you can even take it with you in your car, provided it is in the trunk or glove compartment.
Japanese tanto's are by no means meant to be EDC knives. They were primarily weapons, so weight was not that big of an issue.
Well, the video has "Concealed carry" on the title. I know it is not illegal to "own" it, merely to carry it. What is the point of owning it if you are not going to carry it? (Unless you are using it for display or something...) I am pretty sure you would be charged with possession of an illegal weapon if you ever used it in a self defense manner, too. Even if you used it from the comfort of your own home against, say, a robber.
@MythicDawn1 honestly i don't care if it is illegal but to each his or her own. i just don't carry it often because of the fact that most folding knifes (save it the rajah or espada) are sooo much essayer to carry but still sometimes i do.
@ImASovereignMan the lock just wont let go. it is on there pretty good; to put it bluntly i cant pull it apart unless i push the button. I dont think you will have any problems with it getting snatched, your pants will rip before ether the clasp on the sheath lets go of them or the lock fails. if you decide to get one be sure to put in the comments what your experiences are with it so that we will have a more complete data base here. : ) have a good day.
@ucihapokujin Your probably not even aware as to what im refering to, and why do you have to be such a dick right off the back. Traditionally, there were 3 sizes in the samurai`s arsenal of swords. His main weapon which he used whenever he left the house, Katana, a medium sized blade for around the house, Tanto, and a Wakashashi wich is said to have been kept underneath the samurai`s pillow whenever they slept so that they were always armed. Of course they could be used as secondaries as well.
@NekoRaver You are correct about samurai using blades of varying lengths, however you have tanto and wakizashi confused. Tanto is a dagger 6-12 inches long while a wakizashi is a short sword with a blade between 12-24 inches with an average of 18 inches (though 20 seems to be more common in the modern market). Also, the main weapon of the samurai was technically the yumi (bow), yari (spear), or naginata (halberd) on account of them being mounted cavalry. Those have more reach than a sword.
just a few things about your review you should always show the tang.So people can see if it is screwed on or is a solid peice of steel under the handle.also your cam suxs. But thanks anyhow!
same goes for machetes. Specially trying to sharpen the tip without getting hurt. I just read some reviews on trueswords , people bitching about it being hard to sharpen. I guess thats what the acusharp is for. Did u see that sog fixd blade i showd at the end of my latest video? That thing is just wow! I wantd to get that two handed great sword but it keeps aludeing my grasp
can't wait to see some cutting tests. Those are always fun. I really have never done a full just cutting test video. Once i figure out how to rig my phone to take it, i will most likely post it. Im going to have more then enough card board and new stuff to play with. I got a new cold steel sword. I hear that two handed great sword is hard to sharpen. Is that true?
@weloveanimetoo whelp all double edged swords are time consuming to sharpen but i dont know about hard to sharpen. i haven't tried on that sword but i dont think it will be hard honestly.
i hope to get up one rant and one review atleast b4 i do another knife video. Probably going to review the movie zombie wars. The rant is going to be a whole load of dif subjects on one video. I have like 13 blades no ones seen. I hope to do them after the holidays. Ill keep my viewers in suspence (or bordom) lol
@weloveanimetoo ha ha!! good i have some in interesting revues to post later nope i dont have them shot yet but the opining footage is shot lol steel testing on one of them
i do believe i saw a hanwei katana on truesword. No idea if its anything close to the same thing but its their if u didnt know and wantd to check it out. Also im going to be showing alot of blades after the holidays, so i hope u get to see that video.
@weloveanimetoo yup i knew about it but in the future you will see a revue on a similar one. just pumped up in every way. great let me know hen you are gonna post so i see it first lol.
