  • a big problem is that the current system fits with a certain personality type - the sociopath, hopefully this is also just an evolutionary glitch

  • amazing interview/talk on both of their sides

  • I think whether or not people would be inclined to participate in the society would certainly depend on their belief in their individual political efficacy. For exame today many people in massive nation state societies don't vote because they feel as though they cannot significantly influence society. In the libertarian socialist society political efficacy would be greatly increased ( sorry for the arbitrary value), therefore the incentive for one to participate in decision making would be comp

  • I wonder just how far we need to in transforming/educating humanity to achieve the kinda of society mentioned here? That i feel is the biggest problem. But also, what of those who don't want to play ball, those who just want to take all they can but give nothing back in return? Or what of people who just want to go to work 9-5 & take no part in council meetings, then go home to enjoy their private life & again take no part in council meetings?

  • I lived in a small village in France. Lots of community participation, people of all backgrounds would get together to help out where local government wouldn't/couldn't. people knew each other and mostly wouldn't want to be seen as lazy or uninvolved. This social responsibility also kept the crime level low.

  • real enjoyed it. great post, thank you

  • The nation of Bergonia.

  • Why do people use the term libertarin socialism synonymously with anarchism/anarcho-communism? There's nothing in the term that necessarily entails anarchism. Anarchists are libertarians, libertarians aren't necessarily anarchists.

  • The only non-anarchst Libertarian Socialists are the Libertarian Marxists (Minarchist Socialists). But the overwhelming majority of the Libertarian Socialists are social-anarchists.

  • well @Cres45, if you consider those people for being right wing marxists, then I agree, I would venture a guess that most of those libertarian socialists also have read and accepted some of marxs theory on value etc.

  • @AfricanPrince Because the libertarian socialist tradition was always dominated by social anarchism, this whole tradition was created by anarchists, for example the word libertarian was firstly used in a political sense by anarchists, many people forget that. The use of the word libertarian to describe a set of political positions can be tracked to the French cognate, libertaire, which was coined in 1857 by the French anarchist communist Joseph Déjacque. Many right wing libertarians forget this.

  • THANKS!!!!

    great post!

  • I'm just in the process of reading Michael Albert's Parecon, this interview has really helped illustrate possibilities within the vision.

  • this is excellent

  • thanks a bunch 4 posting

  • Anarchy.

  • Isms are bad! I am an anti-isimizationist!

But is that not just another "ism"?

    Damn you anti-ismizationismists!

  • what about humanism, pacifism?

  • Feminism?

  • Any -ism taken to the extreme is bad. It's simply a word to indicate a common view-point, belief system, or etc.

  • and viewpoints and belief systems can be corrupted and ultimately changed

  • i assumed anarchy is the lack of any "ism" thats its whole deal
