I've watched Ewing play for years. Of all the questionable moves he made that should've been called for traveling, but wasn't, I'd be very surprised if this made his top 100.
Not travelling fools, according to the arbitrary rules the refs use in countless situations like this:
The second step is a two foot take-off, meaning the second and third steps combine for the second step. Yea Yea, to do this cleanly, the second and third step must land simultaneoulsy before the take-off (Obviously Ewing's wasn't simultaneous), but the refs almost never call that on anyone, so long as they take off on both feet, and it's too fast for refs to notice anyhow, so they let it go
@PaulJuliusSokoloff its traveling douch third step cant not touch the floor .. it would be a jump stop.. and jump stop after 2 step its called travel!..
@PRNigga23 Learn to fucking READ fool, especially the part where I stated "(Obviously Ewing's wasn't simultaneous)", DUH, that means I am saying he DID travel, and I then said >>> "but the refs almost never call that on anyone, so long as they take off on both feet, and it's too fast for refs to notice anyhow, so they let it go
You're allowed to bring your travel leg (3rd step) back on the floor to lift off with your jump step (your initial jumping leg on the second step), but the 'travel leg' must hit the floor at the 'same time' as the second step leg followed by an immediate two leg jump.
The rule is bent badly for past 20 years where officials allow players to land the third leg milliseconds 'after' the second step has already landed (like Ewing does in this dunk) then jumping off both feet. All players do it.
soooooo not a travel. only 2 steps after picking up the dribble. watch it in slow motion if you have to. please, people. jordan took three steps at will and never got called for it. cut the shit.
Ewing had hops for a big guy. I remember this dunk he pretty much took off from the foul line and dunked over someone. This was when he was older too. When he was younger he could jump even better.
@Brainsonthewall Yeah he was very athletic in his prime, easily as much so as Olajuwon or any other 7 footer in history. By the year this game took place ('97), it had eroded somewhat. But even I, a die-hard Knick fan and Ewing fan his whole career, was surprised to see him pull this off. It was like one of his 85-92 dunks. Almost Jordanesque speed and explosive elevation.
@jaymum23 I would always talk about this dunk and people looked at me like I was crazy. I told them Ewing dunked over Rodman from the foul line. I think this was done at the buzzer before halftime and what was weird, the announcers acted like it was no big deal. This is one of my top 30 in game dunks easily.
WHAT?! Jordan was the man in Chicago AND New York. He was the man everywhere. People wanted to be like Ewing over JORDAN?? I don't think so, nice try Knicks fan
When you first start playing organized ball your coach teaches you basic moves and most of the moves caters to the big man in the middle. So when people show moves from a big man like patrick E. where he would dunk on you and can shoot the soft jumper....as shorties we were amazed that this could happen with a big man. Jordan was list as 6-6 but we saw him around chicago all the time, he's like 6-4 with crazy hops. Nowadays everybody has crazy hops at 6-4. But there's no Patrick E.
Everything you wrote is pretty much crazy! First off NO ONE IN CHICAGO WANTED TO BE PATRICK EWING... NO ONE! Second Michael Jordan is NOT 6'4 with crazy hops, he's a legit 6'6 never even heard of anyone questioning his height until I read your crazy post. Just by you saying that tells me you NEVER "saw him around chicago". Can't believe this post just have to shake my head in disgust.
This is the silliest debate ever. MJ was 6'6 no doubt about it. And I'm sorry but Kobe is NOT 6'4. You guys are getting crazy in here with the jokes. All NBA players heights are NOT exaggerated.
fuck you! ill say whatever the fuck i want you piece of shit NIGGER! i aint fuckin asian...im a proud fuckin american so if you black get back to africa!
I suppose your native American? Because if your not maybe you should pack your bags and go back to where ever the freak you came from.
By the way Pat Ewing is NOT the best big man ever... perhaps you missed the 1994 NBA finals, because he wasn't even the best in his time let alone "eva".
@AvEryBadApPLe ''humiliated himself''? you really think that way huh? that's pretty sad (no offense). and I know if's don't matter, I was just saying it for the heck of it.
@frusionnn face it dude, mj sucked at baseball. why are you so afraid to admit that truth? now, that's just sad. don't worry, the guys at foot locker won't refuse selling you his sneakers. calm down, lol.
@Sturlast NO, HE DUCKED by slightly buckling his legs and hunching a bit to lose inches (almost a foot) and made it easy for VC. Watch the replay closely from OTHER angles to see. MJ or Nique wouldn't be stupid enough to risk a career-threatening injury for a stunt highlight like that (one arm up and the fall could be deadly!). VC needed to take the risk to get the fame - cause he got no other game. Knowing MJ or Nique could do this easily if they wanted to (better verticals) is good enough.
I've watched Ewing play for years. Of all the questionable moves he made that should've been called for traveling, but wasn't, I'd be very surprised if this made his top 100.
