I think people asume that because he did not power down the trusters he snapped the line intentionally wich is not the case because it should be able to handle it very well but due to repeated useage it causes tears on the line that's why they change them fairly often.

Due to the line having slowed him down almost to zero there was no way for the jet to take off.

Cables snap, not pilot's fault. They also keep the engine spooled up on landing incase they miss and need a go-around, hence the plane accelerating off the ramp. Just unlucky it snapped after slowing down so much.
