  • Unfortunately, it's all an endless cause and effect cycle. Students are dropping out because they are pregnant, discouraged, have social/mental problems (bullying or a disability), don't have the money, and lots of other things. They're from a hyper sexual culture, other students who actually don't care themselves, teachers/schools that don't care or even try, and so much more. It's not as simple as this video says, unfortunately. It should begin with the schools and background first.

  • Jesus UCSDEnginnerDoctor you've been comment on this for half a year!!! Give it a break you're plaguing a place where people can talk about this issue, send a message if you wanna talk for 5 months haha

  • What morons like GENERICPLAQUE doesnt know is that the DEMOCRATIC CLOWNS up in SACRAMENTO are whoring out the UNIONs, by pandering to the ILLEGALS to grow the UNION bureaucracy, which has bankrupted the state of CA. CA has no money to pay its teachers. Money that is used to pay COPS, JAILGUARDS, DMV workers & the entire government bureaucracy means there is no money left for the LEGAL citizens to get the services they need even though they pay all the TAXes to SACREMENTO. Hence higher taxes.

  • fuck off, why we need education for getting jobs?

to me that doesn't make any sense.

everyone can do approximately 90% of jobs, if he knows who to write and read.

education is just an excuse for hiding the failure.of a country's govt. by saying the people that you don't have the degree in bullshit learning so we can't provide you any job.

please wake up the people of the world ....

  • The fact that your primary response is "F--- off" answers your own question. If you had learned how to communicate effectively, maybe you wouldn't be asking what is obvious to most other people.

  • 0:21 Germany owns!

  • this is all starting with us students and our carelessness for education. some of us students just dont see or refuse to see the bad things of not getting a education then when we turn 19 20 21 etc then we figure out why everyone was on our case. we need to look at EVERYTHING from a different P.O.V cause this country wont be as great as it is anymore if things dont change. im not a born American but i am a resident but i feel like a American and proud to feel that way. things got to change.

  • Good Parenting and unschooling education is all you need to make your children better citizens. I live in Mexico and we are so happy not to have our children into a corrupted system.

  • WTF why on the graph in this video do they rank Canda only one slot above the US in position 24, Canada rank #3 in the world not #24...yeah I know it's only Canada right....but seriouly WTF !

  • @scotne1: Canada #3?! Do not make me laugh. My children go to a "good" school here, so I can compare with other systems.

  • @scotne1: 6th on that. 7th on UN's Education Index. How do you explain: US has bad notes in those rankings, but their universities are majority in top 20 world university ranking? Do not stick to rankings, because they show only what was their intend. Check yourself what an "average" person knows about history, philosophy, math etc. Theirs curriculum is very limited, simplified.

Other example: French starts in JK, but can an average Canadian communicate fluently with a Quebecois?

  • UCSDEngineerDoctor: you may be an engineer or some "faux" doctor but you sure don't have the intelligence to know that Obama is NOT at fault. Republicans have run this country for 19 years out of the last 30 years since 1981. And during Clinton (a democrat), the Senate and House were also controlled by Republicans who wouldn't sign off on anything they didn't approve. YOU FAIL. Republicans had just as much an opportunity to reform the system but they didn't either, did they? NO. You buffoon.

  • The republicans balanced the budget when Clinton was President. Since 2000 the democratic senate in each state has whored themselves out to the UNIONs, bankrupting states like CA with huge budget deficits & hence raising TAXes on small businesses. Blaming the republicans, Obama bailed out these states with stimulus, tarp, QE2, so these UNION bureaucrats live in the lap of luxury while the private sector is bankrupt. HENCE NO JOBs. The Democratic UNIONs bankrupt GM, GREECE, CA, & the USA is next.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

you're getting lost in the forest of deception and you've failed to see the truth...........you are indeed a complete (by-) product of the sytem, your counter argument is equally as confused and deranged as the original concept.....please educated yourself and do so immediately....you have a duty to think with clarity for the planet and all life on it..........the focus is not the money.........that is the red herring, the deception......and you fell for it hook, line and..

  • @flintstone2100 What kind of constipated bureaucratic bullshit is this? You truly are a flintstone, make that a Neanderthal. Have you ever taught classes at a UNIVERSITY LEVEL? The UNIONs in CA have totally decimated higher education for the middle class, esp Asian Americans in CA. "and you fel for it hook, line and ...?" Really? Please try to use real facts, instead of stupid dumb rhetoric that makes you a blathering idiot.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - bureaucratic??? sorry doc but you completely misunderstood - again.......and perhaps you could explain what teaching classes at a university has to do with anything? again...you've missed the point.............this 'education' system is exactly what was being discussed - but this i can see is not the biggest problem here...i would say your anger and attitude need urgent attention first....and perhaps think twice about lecturing anyone in that shape.....good luck..

  • @flintstone2100 You are a moron. As a graduate student teaching at UCLA & a post doc at UCSD since 2010. I have seen how the UNIONs in CA have bankrupt Asian American families & other hard working LEGAL class middle class families. You have no experience.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - well on that i can agree with you - yap - the system doesn't work does it?

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - stop teaching!!! immediately!!! everything in your voice is confused and angry..........please don't be too mad with what i say - you're sounding very defensive - ok, i understand, but i mean it...........you are in a very powerful position and you must be absolutely rock solid about what you believe is right and wrong before you even think about telling anybody else. so at this point i'm sure that when you teach you stick to the absolute facts....don't even consider

  • Comment removed

  • @flintstone2100 Stop TEACHING? I am still teaching. But thanks to idiots like you, my class is full of students from CHINA, INDIA, KOREA, JAPAN, SINGAPORE, SAUDI ARABIA, UAEs, American students in engineering comprise less than 20% of my class. No blue collar middle class family can afford to send 3 or 4 kids to college. Why would the UC REGENTs admit a CA kid that needs financial aid when a kid from CHINA can pay 4 times that much due to out of state tuition?

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - i'll continue to ignore the insults cos it's just so boring and bloody stupid now...................but in reply..........yup.............the system is not working is it? you are complaining about it right? and then you defend it...............you do that because IT DOES NOT WORK - a real education is one thing.............this mess is another..................most of the degrees people get are only designed to put people into jobs that are meaningless anyway...........

  • @flintstone2100 I am not insulting you, you do that on you own. Your own stupidity does the talking. You have no real life experience in college or higher education due to morons like you catering the Democrats & OBAMA that whore themselves out to the UNIONs. Pandering to ILLEGALs to get votes so you can get elected & stay in power with your perks, pension, healthcare so that small businesses & the middle class working families are broke due to the taxes & regulations you pass.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - i'm tired of your childish 'moron' thing now..........you are not mature enough and developed enough to be teaching anyone......you should know better than that....if your education has taught you nothing about decent interaction with other people then it has taught you nothing....my children are infact educated outside of the system because the system doesn't work....the sooner you realise that and grow up the better..........you have a long way to go my friend....

  • You are from Portugal. lol Your country is bankrupt just like SPAIN, ITALY, & GREECE. California is also bankrupt. Welcome to socialism. HOPE & CHANGE, its more like DESPAIR & NO JOBS. Idiots like you are the morons that elected people like OBAMA & his DEMOCRATs cronies, & the labor UNIONs clowns that created this mess of a system that screwed the rest of your fellow citizens. Since your kids are not in the screw up system you created, you do not give a damn about other people.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - what a presumptious idiot you are!!! incredible!! you are completely wrong on every assumption of my character - for 1 thing i am not portuguese ha! bad assumption, 2 i do not vote for anyone cos there's nobody worth voting for - 3 i did not create this sytem and i do not own a house or new car and i am not materialistic and my children are beautiful people and i care so much about this world which is why i am even bothering to talk with you.....who is so rude man.....

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - and so insulting and angry you are - so god damned rude man - how did you get so bad??? that's what the system has done for you? you are in it baby.................that's why you don't see it any more...........you can only offer more unreal solutions to an unreal problem instead of setting your mind free...................go for it..............you may even enjoy it...........and you'll make the world a better place..........people want positivity not anger.....change

  • @flintstone2100 You need to get a life, go out in the real world & get real world experience.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Socialism is simply the economic ideal in which the rich give money to the poor through social welfare programs. Every country is moderately socialist, the U.S. and the state of Cali no more than others.

There are plenty of considerably more socialist countries richer than us at this very moment.

Capitalizing labor unions doesn't make you right, and it doesn't give you any real point. What are you trying to say? Communicate clearly.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - and when you finally do wake up out of this confusion in which you believe so much you will discover that it is infact you who is quite possibly the moron......ok! good luck and i truly wish you all the insight and clarity of thought since it is with people like you whom i must share this planet...........and with your attitude we'll never have peace and beauty.......you are one angry ugly person......

  • @flintstone2100 Again your are a typical OBAMA, Labor UNION constipated bureaucratic elitist. You live in Portugal, which is bankrupt also. Your socialistic ideas have came over to the USA & infected my country. "Wake up out of this confusion?" What kind of rhetoric bullshit are you talking about? You truly are a poster child for wishful thinking.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - please form ideas of your own and stop with the politics..........it's making you crazy...............ignore it and get on with real life and real things.................i don't hold out too much hope for you but i'm an optimist and i say it's never too late.........i really really hope that you find your peace and sanity...........obrigado!!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

What the fuck are you babbling?

Unions have bankrupted asian american families? Your stupidity is hurting my brain, did you skip all the pre-req courses at UCLA, which you supposedly went to? Did you never take a high school economics course?

Are you a middle schooler feeling self-righteous and arrogant enough to assume that you can regurgitate mummy and duddy's opinions as fact? Because you're really looking like the latter.

  • @GenericPlaque Nobody talks about how Asian Americans suffers from CA UNIONs. Asians students suffer from both higher college tuition and even worst they are ill prepared by the lower standards that caters to illegals. Asian families suffer from high taxes and we struggle to put our kids into college. We comprise less than 3% of the pop. of CA but almost a 100% of the student body in Engineering and Science majors. You do not know any of this because you are not in college.

  • @GenericPlaque CA teachers' salary comes from taxes collected from businesses and most importantly college graduates - like engineers, doctors, & scientists working for those businesses. But now we are in an economic recession; businesses are closing and leaving CA - those billions of dollars we wasted on educating illegals that do not care about education cannot pay enough taxes to pay the CA teachers' union! Heck these illegals cannot even take care of themselves!

  • Educating kids cost money - coming from our taxes from the private sector like small businesses. The problem with the CA teachers union is that we are educating illegals that do not care about education! Mex. Americans whether legal or illegal, have over a 2/3 dropout rate, let alone get into college. Therefore these high school dropouts waste billions of our taxes dollars, and our return on our tax dollars is zero because they do not graduate from college and get a good job to help pay taxes!

  • To educate a kid requires 2 things esp in CA: 1st of all it requires Taxes coming from the private sector! No tax revenue = no education! 2nd, the people must value education; graduate high school & get into college to get a good job so they can pay taxes! Most Latinos do not value education, hence no job so .: they do not pay taxes, and not only that, ILLEGALs put a burden on state by joining gangs, going on welfare, & going to jail, hence wasting our tax revenue!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor Your argument is very valid i agree with you even by being a Latino, The number of Latinos that i personally know value education while the Latinos i don't see end up dropping out from school to pursue a career in crime. One of the main reason why Latinos go astray is for the reason that so little support is given: not financial support but more a less there is little support from other ethnic communities. The Latinos are looked down upon by every other ethnic groups.

  • @comicbookdude93 I do not mind educating kids that take it seriously. However LA UNIFIED has the most dismal graduation rate for LATIONOs as worst as BLACKS. LEGAL LATINOS & BLACKS that do live here, are being disserviced by the ILLEGALS. Standards are lowered, taxes goes up, NO JOBS, since the UNIONS have bankrupt the private sector, & TUITION has skyrocket due to the UNION educational bureaucracy. The only people that can afford college & smart enough to get accepted now are the CHINESE.

  • @comicbookdude93 The west coast is the PRIME TARGET of CHINESE families wanting to send their kids to UCLA or BERKELEY. OBAMA & his DEMOCRATIC UNION clowns not only has bankrupt CA, but has made college unattainable. College admissions has now gone GLOBAL. Imagine 1 billion CHINESE KIDS applying to UCs? Why would UC REGENTS with a massive budget deficit accept a middle class legal LATINO that needs financial aid, when a CHINESE kid is smarter with perfect grades & can pay out of state TUITION?

  • Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because some of the TAs were on strike, & were stupid to listen to their propaganda. During this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA!!! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. I was rewarded with a summer teaching position. The other TAs were not so lucky.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor ...an opinion until you know who you are yourself...............i don't know how old you are but you do sound quite young........having a formal education teaches one very little about the important things in life. ...and life is not about money doctor..........you should know that........

  • @flintstone2100 Again what kind of constipated bureaucratic blathering BULLSHIT are you typing? An OPINION? I have given you facts that I SEE when I have taught Engineering Classes at UCLA & UCSD.

  • UC Regents & the TA Union went into arbitration because they wanted to increase my $8.00 salary to $10, so that $2 goes to the UNION. The Unions lost, because TAs are not teachers. Because of this Union fiasco, thousands students including Lations & Black students flunked Physics. TA Union disintegrated and the University black listed them & hired new TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the Unions wanted a piece of my $8.00/hr wage.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor ok so forget it...................it's all getting lost on ridiculous bureaucracy and it's filling your head with insignificant details...........that's what it's designed to do.............so why don't you just start something new..........what about being part of an teaching programme that isn't full of the crap system......we know the education is geared toward that end...you could offer really great unbias info to kids........!!! great!!

  • @flintstone2100 - you don't get it doc.......forget the unions and money and pay and bla bla bla...........you're fighting a system that does not work...........you get frustrated.........you think you can change it but you can't............so we have to ignore it and ignore people who run the system.......money and attention empower them...............ignore them................you can and you are more smart.................

  • @flintstone2100 FORGET THE UNIONs? The Democratic MORONS up in SACRAMENTO & OBAMA whore themselves out to the UNIONs. Our taxpayers dollars goes to their salaries, pensions, campaign funds, perks, healthcare, jet junkets. No wonder we are broke. THANKS OBAMA.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor - touche!!!!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

That you are in UCSD and still don't understand the world is kind of amazing.

The Republicans are the primary cause of the fiscal troubles we are currently having. Mind if I run over some dates for you? Great. Lehman brothers: collapsed under Bush. Housing bubble: burst under Bush. Recession officially declared: under Bush.

Btw, Quantitative easing, the stimulus, and tarp were all aimed at helping the private sector, not the public.

    Who is lying to you?

  • Comment removed

  • @GenericPlaque The housing crisis was due to the democrats enforcing affirmative action lending, by lending money to people that had no business owning a house. They provided no documentation, no income verification, but OBAMA & Barney Frank made sure that those loans were back by Freddie & Fannie. Now Freddie & Fannie are $2 trillion in the red, because those people defaulted on their loans & guess who had to bail them out? The taxpayer - that is why we are broke.

  • Comment removed

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

The stimulus went towards increasing consumer spending. (helping you)

Quantitative easing went towards propping up banks and injecting money into the economy (helping you if you took loans out to make your business)

TARP was passed by bush, not obama. Either way, it was aimed at helping tanking economic giants, who might've subcontracted work out to you (helping you. It's also being repaid)

Nothing went to unions. The unions have never been bailed out or received money.

  • @GenericPlaque You are a fucking idiot, stimulus went towards increasing consumer spending? How can taking money from small businesses increase consumer spending? The stimulus saved UNION jobs throughout the US so that each state government does not shut down, due to the bloated pensions & salaries of UNION workers. Rather than use the tax money to hire private contractors so that there is less waste & fraud, & each state would not be in the red & tax small businesses even more.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Hey. Hey you. Yeah, you, in the funny hat. You know that the stimulus directly gave money to consumers, right? You know that's a cornerstone of keynesian economics, right? You know the unions have nothing to do with anything, even if your mummy and daddy tell you to hate them, right? You know that union workers were laid off too, right? You know that the U.S. spent billions propping up priv jobs in companies like GM, right?

Wait, you don't know? Maybe you should read a book.

  • @GenericPlaque Keynesian economics turns your economy into GREECE, did you know that? GM was not prop up, the bailout went to pay the UNIONs, why do you think GM still struggles to this day? The UNIONs know that if they bankrupt GM know they have a safety net in OBAMA.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor Keynesian economics is used by almost every first world democracy, it's just how you regulate capitalism and recover from recessions.

GM was propped up with billions through TARP, and funding was continued with the stimulus package. You can close your eyes and block your ears, or you can start thinking for yourself.

Capitalizing unions and repeating the same incorrect statement isn't helping your case, either.

  • @GenericPlaque Keynesian economics? The free market should regulate capitalism, it is because of KEYNESIAN policies that we are bankrupt, take a look at GREECE.

  • @GenericPlaque The stimulus created more UNION jobs esp here in CA, where our governor use the bailouts to give it to the UNIONs catering to the ILLEGALs. More UNION jobs mean more taxes. It does not mean more consumer spending. OBAMA printed this money for the UNIONs, & everybody now suffers from inflation, no growth, & worst NO JOBs. UNION JOBs are TAX JOBs, we need more entrepreneurs not more DMV workers! Tarp was use to shore up the UNIONs pensions hold by AIG & GOLDMAN.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Yeah, you run a small business and the recession's been mean to you, so obviously the current president is at fault because X reason.

Well no. A union is just a collective group of workers negotiating with employers to receive reasonable working conditions. You can't gun at them just because they have steady jobs (excepting the teacher's union, which is overpowered). No unions were bailed out, no money was given to them that you should have received.

    Stop acting victimized.

  • @GenericPlaque The UNIONs have bankrupt all the states in the NATION esp California with HUGE budget deficits. The democrats have whored themselves out to the LABOR UNIONs, hence taxes in CA have increased thru the roof. TAXes from fines, permits, workers comp, insurance on top of the taxes. The DEMOCRATs use this money to grow the bureaucracy by catering to ILLEGALs. OBAMA's BAILOUT & stimulus went to bailout the UNIONs, hence NO JOBs, No small businesses saw a dime of that money.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

    The unions don't bankrupt anybody.

If you knew how to use google, you'd realize california's taxes aren't really any higher than everyone else's.

Guess who was in charge of california? A republican. Guess the actual reason for the problems? The recession crushed tourism industries, and the wild partisanship of the senate made doing anything impossible, hence the ridiculous budget delays.

I used to live in Cali, don't pretend to lecture me on things you don't understand.

  • @GenericPlaque You do not live in CALIFORNIA, small businesses are devastated by taxes passed by the democratic clowns whoring to the LABOR UNIONs. You are 21? And you use to live in CA? You cannot even stand on your own two feet. You never had to pay taxes from your bills, from gas, electric, sewage tax, land tax, fire, insurance for your car, registration, sales tax, gas tax, how wonder middle class families in CA are broke. You are 21, & cannot even pay your own phone bill!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Excuse me? You presume to know whether I can support myself? Fuck off. And secondly:

You pay the same taxes everyone else does. You pay the same insurance everyone else does. Middle class families are not broke because then they would not be middle class.

Small businesses are being devastated because it's a recession, you chump, and in every state.

Do you even know what a union is? Do you understand what it does and its purpose? Do you realize that it's not inherently bad?

  • @GenericPlaque Small business are broke because we are taxed for the UNIONs lavish incompetence. From the DMV to the POSTAL SERVICE, & all the UNIONs in CA that cater to ILLEGALs - we are BROKE.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

And further, the bailout went to bailing out (read carefully here) large banks and mortgagers, preventing millions of people from going bankrupt. Would you rather that happened, just because it doesn't affect your upper-middle class life? Because that really, really makes you look like a tool.

Also, Cali doesn't cater to illegal immigrants, just gives them the welcome a great and open nation should. Read the statue of liberty once in a while before calling us unpatriotic.

  • @GenericPlaque lol, Those large banks you talk about are AIG & GOLDMAN, who holds all the UNIONs pensions & salaries, yes they got bailed out of course.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

They also hold the salaries of just about everyone else, as well as mortgages for houses.

Are you suggesting that only union workers own houses? Can I have a puff of whatever drug you're snorting? Please?

  • @GenericPlaque Look at OBAMA's new current jobs plans, the fucking IDIOT did the same thing he did 4 years ago while standing with COPs, fire fighters, & UNION construction workers, to help create jobs. OBAMA is a UNION whore, full of corruption, just like Solyndra, the money that goes to the UNIONs just like Solyndra the democratic bureaucrats skim off the top til there is nothing left to even pay the JANITOR. Solyndra goes bankrupt, but the UNIONs they can just ask OBAMA for more BAILOUTs.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

I'm beginning to suspect that you are either trolling, or stupid enough that none of what I'm saying is getting through.

I'm giving up on you either way, apparently your perception of honest debate is to shout union whore a bunch and pretend that what you're saying is comprehensible. Have a nice day.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Btw, your comments are getting flagged as spam because you are ignoring everybody and just repeating the same old tired crap.

Lehman brothers went bankrupt because it was deeper in shit than other companies. It's really that simple. AIG and goldman were, as I have already said, saved to save consumers, not union workers.

Memorizing words isn't the same thing as understanding them.

Finally: tuition has risen because we're in a recession, you buffoon.

  • @GenericPlaque Tuition is raised because we are in a recession? You are a fucking moron. The UNIONs bankrupt each state by raising our taxes, esp in CA. The democratic MORONs up in SAC have wasted our tax revenue on UNION jobs catering to ILLEGALs. ILLEGALs that are on welfare, teachers, nurses, & they all flunk out having 4-5 gang banger kids, more jails, jailguards, that the taxpayer has to subsidize paying all their salaries & pensions. Hence no money left for education.

  • @GenericPlaque Tuition has risen to pay off the budget deficit caused by the UNIONs. Rather than cut back the UNION bureaucracy that caters to ILLEGALs in CA the democrats clowns up in Sacramento rather raise the tuition of legal taxpayers families that have 2-3 kids in college.

  • @GenericPlaque You are a racist stupid fiscal moron. Your UNIONS lying to the TAX payers of CA by catering to ILLEGALS so you can hire more teachers so you can suck more TAX revenue for your dues - while at the same time put in jeopardy the millions of tax paying citizens and their kids. TAXES that drove businesses out of California, so that now no college graduate can find a job. UNIONS of teachers, cops, jail guards. These are not the kind of jobs that will lead us out of this recession!!!

  • @GenericPlaque Typical Union idiots like you is the reason why I see no Latinos, Blacks, or barely any Californians in my Engineering class. As an undergrad. TA at UCLA when your stupid UNION tried to recruit me, under some stupid local grocery/auto labor tag. I was glad I did not signed the dotted line and join the TA Union. Guess what? 1 week before finals, the UNIONs told the TAs to strike, and anybody caught Teaching was going to be severely reprimanded.

  • @GenericPlaque Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because all the TAs were on strike. As an undergrad you are only allowed to teach 1 class, but during this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA!!! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. As an engineer with my own business today, I still feel the same way!

  • @GenericPlaque UC Regents & the TA Union went into arbitration on salary negotiations because they wanted to increase my $8/hr salary to $10. The Unions eventually lost, because TAs are not teachers. Because of this Union fiasco, thousands of Lations & Black students flunked Physics. And to make matters worst the TA Union disintegrated & the University black listed them & hired new undergrad TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the Unions wanted a piece of my $8 / hr wage.

  • @GenericPlaque You are a fucking idiot, OBAMA cares about you? OBAMA does not even care about the ASIANs, look how OBAMA has destroyed Asians American families out here in CA, we are now broke due to 500% raise in UC TUITION, raising the tuition so OBAMA can grow the ILLEGAL UNION gov. bureaucracy, just to get votes. The sad part is OBAMA does not give a fuck about the ILLEGALs, OBAMA is using them to get elected, while BLACKs suffer due to the ILLEGALs taking a piece of the pie.

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor

Oh I see, you're a script, that makes a lot more sense.

  • 7 people dropped out

  • No matter how slick they make a movie to push the corporate 'reform' agenda, the reality of poverty will come back to bite the American people in the a^s. Then it will be too late. American public education will have been sold off to the Wall St hedge fund managers and the billionaire’s boys club without improving children's education. Of course the hedge fund managers will have enriched themselves at the expense of the American taxpayers.

  • One aspect of public education in the successful countries which the Waiting For Superman never talks about is poverty. In Finland, less than 3% of the children live in poverty. In the US it's 23%. Poverty (or affluence) accounts for 60% of test score variations. Teaching only 15%. This is not news - one only has to review the social science literature of the last eight decades to realize this. The #1 problem of US education is the #1 problem of American society and that is POVERTY.

  • I blame the failure of the US education system on the teachers UNIONs. They are solely responsible for blacks & minorities abyssal graduation rates. And at the same time, leaves the taxpayer footing the bill with higher taxes to pay for the bloated pensions, & 6 figure admin. salaries, screwing the younger generation with high paying tenure old farts teaching your kids, while the younger college grads who are better teachers cannot get a job. FUCK the UNIONs & FUCK YOU OBAMA!

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor you do realize that teachers unions are a republican initiative? Your comment is highly uneducated.

  • @mpardueable Republican initiative? That is laughable. The UNIONs bankrupt GREECE, GM, & California. The US economy will be next.

  • Haha this country is so screwed

  • Listen to Charter School Radio on wsradio.com with Host "Coach" Dennis Snyder. Help support the charter school movement by liking us on facebook.

  • the fundamental problem is our arrogance and lack of motivation..........in addition we are lazy and fat!! (stares at tummy)

  • What will I do? I will NOT SUPPORT TEACHER UNIONS.

  • face it people its not your kids that are stupid its the system ive been through it more then most kids ive seen the issuses for public to private to altintive the all have diffrent problems but there all broken and need to be rewriten and no its not just vote on it and leave it iam 15 and ive changed my school i demanded change and fought for it and when it happend it worked the grades went up the dispanry went down its not just adults who need to fight cuzz they will do nothing but its us

  • Its the culture, here in Europe or Korea , Japan ect.. You se, as example.. we care about other ountrys around the world,, History etc.. If you check out America US, most of them know jack shit about the history of other countrys around the world, Because they dont care.. Arrogant, I dont say all of theme.. Yes there are enought do.

  • @thephaseshifter It is primarily the religious nutbags who have this strange idea that America can not do anything wrong and every other nation is full of second class heathens. They want to rewrite history so that the founders hated slavery and worked tirelessly to end it. These religious nuts are ruining the country. Michelle Bachman is a perfect example. If she or anyone like her wins the presidence I am immigrating to another country.

  • the problem is that students dnt care and then there parents are such a bad example we need to encourge students

  • The video was 2:07 long (127 seconds). They said that a kid drops out of school every 26 seconds and that three would drop out during the video. 127/26 is 4.88, so over four would drop out during the video. I think they need to improve their math skills.

  • @jlr1408 3 from the time she mentioned the drop rate to the end...learn to listen first

  • Serach for an RSanimate graphic animation called "Changing Education Paradigms" for a great, inspirational speech on changing the education model for the better. I think this would work here in Finland as well. Duly recommended. :)

  • The one thing that other countries can do that American school can not do.is turn unmotivated students away. There teachers are working with the best and our the unmotivated. Yes I know we need to find away to motivate, I agree. But you want to see American education change you make the educational system a privilage not a right. Tell parents that your child can't attend our school because they are misbehaving or the have missed to many day. This would change it all

  • @billiebobber16360 Why exactly don't those parents care because their parents didn't care and when they went school as kids their teachers didn't care either. When you sit in a room for eight hours if the person at the front cares about you then you start caring about others as well. Yeah there are bad parents out there but they're not the majority and you can't blame parents who were never taught algebra or chemistry for why their kids don't get it.

  • @sagax04 Well I watch the original flick and they seem to demonize the Teacher Union but Glorify the teachers. So is a bit double speak. "We love all teachers, but their union don't allow us to fire the bad ones"

They even mention the environment as being not an influence of bad schools. When they go to the suburbs and interview a white blonde girl from Silicon Valley CA.

  • Except that the whole school system is based on archaic way of educating people. Stablishing the teacher as the one and only way to learn is a mistake. People are learning 24/7. So focusing on the teacher can be a zero-sum game.

  • This video is amazing, great work. I'm really taken aback here.. powerful message well delivered ; )

  • I didn't say that Harlem Success Adademny only picks the brightest - but some Charter schools do, and it's not against the law for them to do so because they get to write their own rules. Charters also get to kick out families that choose not to go along with whatever rigid rules they have in place. An advantage not afforded to public schools and that public schools aren't allowed to duplicate.

  • In foreign countries, there is no SOCIAL PROMOTION. If a student fails, he must repeat the entire year . . . AGAIN!

In America, it is literally impossible to "flunk" a student!

A teacher must attend a "special retention meeting", where she must present her case to a panel of experts.

Even, if the team agrees to retain the student, the parents can still veto their decision!

That is how you end up with junior high kids that don't know their time tables and read at a 2nd grade level!

  • @MsJanetWood The entire system is failing, and these idiotic rules are part of that system, but when in DC's case only 12% of students are performing at grade level something more is wrong than just parents insisting their kid isn't held back a grade.

  • @retsep81 That's classic. We currently live in a capitalistic society...what has worked? Things? Is this all we aim for are tangible things? That's a sad situation. Most people would rather steal or get "things" the wrong way. When things are placed ahead of morals, values, respect, dignity...that's the making of a screwed society. And please next time you decide to comment, please refrain from derogatory comments. I'm sure you can get your intelligent point across without it.

  • @zuwenaw The reason you are able to discuss this on YouTube and not some garbage text based wasteland is capitalism. Yes the government built ARPANET...then they sat on it for decades. It took about 5 years once the private sector figured it out to revolutionize the world. Don't underestimate the power capitalism has for good in the world.

  • @zuwenaw yes as my korean custom, we do respect and honor our elders in a way. video games can cause most of the problem with health issue, education and economies. i remember my uncle always said reading, math, and writing is the main source for human basic life, but like others science and social studies is not very important to us. i hope that someday, america will be the top 1st in scores on international test.

  • The problem is, it's not just about Ms. Robinson. It's about Mom and Dad also. Our capitalist society has put more value in things and stuff more than education. Our entertainment for children has become video games and inappropriate tv programming. Respect for your elders and honoring your family is no longer in the forefront. This is what children from other countries still obtain. I was a teacher for 3 years and I can tell ya...the curriculum, parents and society are the problems.

  • @zuwenaw What does capitalism have to do with this? If anything capitalism is the solution, by having schools compete to get better results. If kids want nice things from a capitalist society it starts with a good education, maybe teachers should focus on that instead of complaining about it like a loser socialist.

  • Imagine this... one year, a teacher gets test scores that show 70% of their students are proficient or advanced. The next year the test shows that they only have 10% proficient or advanced. Did they suddenly forget how to teach? Shall we fire that teacher? Or... are there other factors at play... this actually happens in schools, and we all know that the teachers in question didn't suddenly forget how to teach... there are other factors at play that aren't easy to legislate.

  • It's the psychiatric influence!

How many kids took psyche drugs 30 years ago? I didn't know any.

Now, in many areas it's more than 50%. Think about it!

  • Documentary: "Hard Times at Douglass High."

Books: "Bad Students, Not Bad Schools” by Robert Weissberg

"The Dumbest Generation” by Mark Bauerlein

  • what american propaganda... your country really is sending our world to shit.

  • @sirliambz you live in the same country xD

  • We should ask ourselves then, who runs public education?

  • it's all about what a country values. and the us just doesn't value "for all." they didn't have health care for all and they didn't have an education for all for a very long time. other developed countries have.

  • @stayology i wouldn't say that. the "commoners" value each other and all help each other. the rich conservatives are the problem and they have control of nearly everything. it's a very long story but your country isn't that far ahead of us in education. our countries really need to help each other. there's so many things we could do, one being educating everyone.

  • We have technology people, the modern technology that can be useful to education. At least every kid in the united states gets an education, it's important for us as students to get a good education and to become the next generation with a career and that can help improve the economy.

  • @tee1992x Did you seriously just say help improve the economy? The global economic system is doomed. Currency is a fundamental flaw in the work. The reason these kids are not getting a great education is money and you suggest we perpetuate this failing system? The job of EVERY generation is to improve life in every parameter.

  • @tee1992x

it's all wrong.....the education system is based on lies from the start and like zombies everyone follows..............the 'education' system is leading the poor little lambs to the slaughter......lives filled with materialism, pursuit of money, consumerism........brainwashed by the system consisting of spin doctors and pr propoganda machines.......all design to dumb down to eventually fit into a system that fuels the pockets of corrupt leaders.............

  • Respond to this video...

i wish the whole world would open their eyes to what this so-called 'education' system is. I wish i wish i wish that people would understand what is happening here. Ok so i'll tell you if you really can't figure it out............the 'education' system is making robots to fit into the political machinery..........c'mon........surely you can see that............the 'education is designed to promote materialism, consumerism, egoism.....not to live in peace :(

  • I am so sick of liberal racist trying to avoid the elephant in the room, stop tryin to make black kids, white kids. at the same time it's gov dependence the culture is developed to even further remove them from success. We spend more $ on per student on kids in DC, then any other in the world. STOP THE FUCKING MADNESS U RACIST LIBERALS, all u are doing with you gov welfare is exacerbating the gap. if u fuckers would jsut stop we woud all become brownish with slighly slanted eyes. STOP UR RACISM!

  • TYPO CORRECTION: INNER CITY

  • What happened to the young, white teachers hired by Michelle Rhee? Are they still teaching in Washington D.C.? No? Why did they leave?

Why is the new mayor thinking of rehiring the older, black teachers?

NOT SO EASY, TEACHING IN THE INTER CITY!

    Cue Aretha Franklin's song "R-E-S-P-E-C-T . . . "

    HA!

  • @MsJanetWood i don't understand what you mean. are they hiring more young white teachers or are they hiring older black teachers?

  • There was a video about the usefulness of interactive whiteboards in classrooms. These simple $50 devices turned a boring class into something that kids found as the reason to "go to school" - they made learning exciting, engaging, and addictive.

The real issue is for most people, education ends at school, ie: "I can't wait to get out of school !!" Learning is forever ongoing. To be the best, you can't stop learning.

A wealthy man was summed up as "Being infinitely curious about everything."

  • @thedavecraig Haha. You know, all of these countries who are above the US in the ranking don't have those fancy whiteboards. It's not the hardware. It's how you train and choose your teachers. It's about how you organize your students and pupils and your educational system. If you've been to Europe, Taiwan or Japan you'd see that the majority of the younger people, in their free time, read simple, plain, old school books printed on paper. Think about it.

  • @GaolisVideoLog Sorry but your statement is false...

  • @GaolisVideoLog america actually has a secret weapon in education but it's only in the beginning process. a project based learning in which students engage learning things through reason and experience. studies show that these students score higher on tests but it's still being decided whether or not they should be used in all schools. for american students, reading those text books are just way to boring.

  • Comment removed

  • @GaolisVideoLog State governments pay on avg. just over $10,000 for each student K-12 to receive a public education, annually. It costs Illinois almost $100,000 to send 1 kid to a juvenile detention center, annually. The numerous dispositions children of poor inner-cities learn to live with takes a huge toll on their expectations of life. Instead of using state tax dollars to incarcerate the underprivileged and undereducated youth, the state should increase funds for public education.

  • @GaolisVideoLog i have no idea how other schools in those countries above the USA work, but yes you could i say i just called American kids stupid. granted, probably 1/4 or 1/5 are not. i will say that i must agree with you. my country will collapse if people don't wake the fuck up! the government doesn't want to hear about it (at least republicans) and the people don't want to listen. i am a teen myself and i believe my generation was somehow lost. born into a great world only to have itshatter

  • @GaolisVideoLog true....but sometimes I do think/afraid that there's also the 'bad sides' of it, for example: the high depression & suicide rates now in the supposedly 'brightest, best students' Asian countries like Korea, Japan, China... how can we then *solve* this seemingly 'conflicting' problems?

Or, is 'pushing' the kids to the max is still NOT the correct solution?

  • @nikiwonoto Well, but there's still Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland. Even 2nd world countries like Poland have better scores than the US. You see, just like Confucius said, there are many different paths that lead to the same goal. Sweden's education is considered one of the best worldwide. Why don't you check it out.

  • @GaolisVideoLog not really,.. or not at all...
