  • I think Liza Minnelli one day at the Oscars should tribute her mother Judy Garland and sing her songs The Man That Got Away, The Trolley Song and especially Over The Rainbow, because the academy really screwed up giving that Oscar to Grace Kelly not to Judy for her great performance in A Star Is Born.

  • Miss Ross makes it all seem so easy, the sign of a true artist. And a nice tribute to the kid that introduced the song so long before.

  • In retrospective today (2011) as Diane Ross long trail of deceit has become her "notoriety" as the web she webbed on THE SUPREMES is public knowledge and downfall of her "PROFESSIONAL LIFE" and her long running "sex for stardom" relation with Motown "THE BOSS" Berry Gordy would produce an illegitimate child (Rhonnda Silberstein Gordy Kendricks) who was born while married to Robert Silberstein but is Berry Gordy's child for many is the total fraud!

  • The fact remains, Diana Ross has the total package! She aced it all in the entertainment

Business and that's why every female singer, young or old has been measured by her amazing talent. She did it with class, style, and originality. In other words, she did her thang and is still going strong! Go to one of her concerts today and folks are going wild and standing up for the entire show.

  • patti should have did this

  • @sierria64 Liza should have done this shes Judy's daughter and was young at the time.

  • Diana presents black women in a class of sheer elegance and like no other pop/R&B diva, not even Whitney. Her voice is so expressive, beautiful, and yet soulful without that yelling effect. She understands interpreting different types of songs very well without over singing as many black singers do.Every song is not about how loud/over modulated you can be. Control, interpretation, intensity, delivery, stage presence & tonality are important. Bodily interpretation is like an opera singer-graceful!

  • Well they both played Dorothy in versions of the wizard of oz although I think Judy Garlands version of Dorothy was more popular though. But the way Diana Ross sang it here it was so beautiful she should do it again it was so pretty.

  • Ms Ross is the goddess among goddesses of song, an absolutely cherished legend!

  • @Xone7 you are so right on that one.. Diana is like a beautiful mythical creature from another dimension here her voice is instantly recognizable and can't be duplicated. Her performance is magical.

  • @whatigot2say you are so right. just lok at how she gracefully glides in and sings so smoothly. diana reminds me of those fantastic movie goddesses of the 40's and 50's.

  • No. One. Hotter.

  • DR is so talented. She was even unafraid to "sing along" with the Judy Garlad version, and she did it beautifully. What a talent!

  • This is one of Diana Ross' best performances ever! She looked incredible and her voice sounded superb.

  • She sounds good here. She seems to have recovered from the hoarse, tired sound she had during the Workin' Overtime tour (surely the result of back-to-back pregnancies). She looks and sounds more like Diana circa 1986 here. But I don't like the arrangement with her segueing from the Judy Garland version and the sing along. She should have done the verses and really sung it through.

  • Call her Miss Ross ! A true talent and legend.

  • diana probably asked instead of patti because she and judy are the only 2 associated with playing dorothy

  • @jcb0618 Patti is gut bucket that' why she wasn't asked.. like patit would fit in at the academy awards?? NOT

  • @jcb0618 She was asked because her style fit more what they were trying to do. Can you imagine Patti singing with Judy Garland? I'm not taking away anything from either lady. The way people argue over them is a testament to both ladies.

  • i lovee her she is so wonderful i was lmao at the very end she is hilarious lol

  • I love it!! Two of my favorite divas in a "duet" of sorts. Loooooove!!

  • why does she bother graveling at the feet of those white hollywood jews? where were they when she tried to get films financed? why was she never given serious consideration to any film roles by them? because she was a black woman. diana girl stay in europe these racist hollywood crackers did you wrong for the last 30 yrs.

  • She did herself wrong. The Bodyguard could have been hers 20 years before Whitney came along....she dragged her feet. You snooze, you lose.

  • Well your right on that one... she refused to do the Bodyguard back then with Ryan Oneil who was hot @ the time, even after he practically begged her. The Bodyguard became a mega success for Whitney. Still diana should have been offered more substantial roles especially coming off of the mega success of lady sings the blues, there was no one like her or doing what she was doing at the time.

  • @Alvin4NY Yes she did seem to be way too picky and over managed at the time. many missed opportunities.

  • Diana killed her own career because many directors and produvers did not want to work with her. diana, while a marvelous talent is very challenging to work with barbara striesand is also but she is white.

  • @yurherenow while some of what you say might be correct, Diana Ross is first and foremost a professional singer, so it doesn't take rocket science to figure out why she hasn't done more cinema work. How many albums and concerts have Michelle Pfeifer and Melanie Griffith recorded and presented us with?

  • Blizzardx3 although diana is primarily a singer she had obvious talent as actress as well. she expressed a strong desire to do more films but did not do so because the cards were stacked against her & 2. she listened to bad advice regarding her film career (or so she says).

  • @BLIZZARDX3 but if they did they would have sold like hot cakes. that's the difference.

  • @yurherenow I agree. diana, after all that she was still struggled in hollywood. she should have had a huge carreer in movies. she danced, sang, acted and was such a personality.

  • @best1forward I agree and no one at that time had the persona that she did, she was one of a kind. still is.

  • I agree with all the talents you said Ross had, but dancing. Diana was never a good dancer. She never even tried to be a dancer and develop her dancing.

  • @marcosvalenca she was pretty good on the sammy davis show when they did a fred and ginger routine...but yes dancing was not her best talent but she was a hard worker and could maybe have developed that side of her talent too.

  • Diana the STAR of a century and beyond... she commands every audience always has and always will... those were the days when talent was paramount... and she had tons of it!

  • Well, it was going fine until "Sing along with me Los Angeles." Nope, not interested in hearing Los Angeles sing, Diana.

  • Erm, didn't you listen Michelle Pfiffer's comments at the start? About movies connecting audiences across generations and the world? THAT'S why everyone is asked to sing along - to emphasise that point!

(I didn't say it wasn't cheesy -but at least you understand why Ms Ross did it)

  • not a patch on judy

  • PROPER

  • Somebody call Patti and tell her that Diana is hi jacking her shit!...LOL...

  • Diana is an oscar nominated actress that's why she shows up to the awards so much over the years.

    patti is great but.........

  • The Academy was not looking for a stump your feet and shout version...certain people just have a greater interpretation..like Diana does. This why she is there and not Patti. All the love to Patti..She too is a great singer.

  • @pronkking hey "Einstein", Patti Labelle is not an Oscar nominated actress like Diana Ross is. Also, Patti's sound is too one dimensional and churchy for the type of sound the academy was looking for. Diana has that broad/ neutral appeal sound.

  • A world wide sing-a-long choreographed by a world renowned SUPERSTAR. When she was hot there was no one hotter.

  • AGREED. This performance is definitely classic!

  • This is an amazing performance, both from the exquisite quality of the singing by Ms. Ross, but also the technical feat accomplished around the world. Only she could have pulled it off with such class.

  • truely beautiful, it brought a rear to my eye, not many singers can do that to me. diana can make me happy and sad at the same time. a true legend. x

  • Yes, she's definitely one of a kind. I don't imagine there'll be another performer quite like her again.

  • whitney has a voice, that's for sure but she lacks the sheer glamour and style of Diana

this performance is flawless and she looks flawless

she wore that dress for her entrance at wembley in 2004 with a giant plume of feathers on the top of her head

i can honestly tell you that i've never seen a more iconic image ,EVER

    it was breathtaking

    well done to her

  • i was there too, she was magnificent and most definitely breathtaking, my friends thought it was hilarious that i went but i went home and laughed in their faces because it was one of the best live shows i've been too.

  • this was in response to doolie50, i wasn't at the academy awards, i was a baby lol

  • Now SHE can sing!!! I miss her out there doing her thing!

  • I wish Ross still had the status she once enjoyed. I mean, people don't pay attention to her albums anymore, she hasn't a film in ages, no significant tours and no big Vegas show! Celine Dion and, latety, The Divine Miss M killed in Las Vegas. But what a sweet voice Diana has.

  • marcosvalenca, Diana sold out two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in July, 2008, but I get what you mean . . .

  • @marcosvalenca diana is playing to 30K plus shows in europe. she doesn't need Vegas. of course when you're sitting on over 200 million dollars she doesn't need to work at all.

  • Yurherenow, Diana Ross' official site has a link to NO concert dates. I also couldn't find concert dates on Yahoo. Ross is worth 200 million dollars, wonderful for her. I wish her love and happiness. If she comes to my country I'll even travel to see her.

  • Sadly, for Diane,it aint got nothin ta do with the bucks...it's the 'high' she gets from the audience!!She looks amazing here...as she does the greater % of the time!!God bless her...!!

  • @TheMrMarilyn agreed

  • @TheMrMarilyn great comment mr marilyn. I think you are correct in your summary.

  • I think that Miss Ross is Great and that she is n a class of her own not 2 b compared 2 anyone, i think that there's room 4 more than one, Diana still got it!!much LOVE..........09"

  • I have to admit that I blushed like a little girl when I heard her beautiul voice! I love Diana Ross so much. She has always been my favorite singer.

  • Yes. She definitely has that effect on people. Truly one of a kind.

  • I love Ms Ross' performance, especially her phrasing, in this performance. She takes this song, which so closely assoiciated with Judy Garland, and makes the performance her own, showing great intelligence in her approach. How many lesser singers have done this song and ended up with a weak reiteration of the Garland original?

Thanks for posting this in such great quality. Agreed - everything here was flawless.

  • I completely agree with you . Her phrasing was # 1. That's her trade mark!!!! She will always be my idol.

  • Diana Ross has never moved an inch for Ms. Houston??? She supports and encourages new young artist. That's why Diana Ross is in NO other category with other female singers..actors..athletes..on and on. The woman is real, she has given birth to and raised 5 kids, put them throuh college, and just who in the industy has done that and still has the career Diana Ross has???

  • Diana Ross is amazing but Whitney Houston is even more amazing and Diana had to move aside and let the young ones move in its buisness

  • and whitney didn't step aside for anyone...she took drugs and ended up in the gutter...as we fans say...diana forever!

  • Diana has class whitney tries to emulate but never could

  • I guess Ross needs no introduction cause she sure didn't get one.

  • Ross was the ultimate never understood why the usa threw her under the bus for whitney houston. she's the definition of fabulous.

  • No one threw her under the bus. Can there be only one great Black Diva? There will never be another Diana Ross and there will never never ever be another Whitney Houston.

  • Well they sure lost all interest in anything Ross no matter what she did, and now Houston is the forgotten one, struggling to regain prominence. Ross has had a resurrection of popularity of sorts, guess the way things go in cycles. Amazingly she's still around heading into decade 5.

  • Don't confuse CURRENT popularity to general prominence. Whitney is hardly forgotten. That won't happen anytime soon. Once you become a legend....it's a done deal. Struggling implies failed attempts. Whitney has yet to release a new cd so that would be quite mileading. Whitney is constantly referenced. No up and coming songstress escapes the comparisons. Careers have many phases. There's a time when one makes constant hits and then a time to simply sustaining a career with general work.

  • So you're on the how great whitney is bandwagon on a diana page?

my point exactly. even on a Ross page its whitney whose said to have prominence not Ross, my orginal point the USA threw Ross under the bus for whiteny and you've just demonstrated it. correct me if i'm wrong.

  • Yimheretoday. The only reason whitney was brought up on a Diana page is because YOU brought her up. My point is that they are both great! They cannot be compared. Whitney is great. Diana is great! Greatness is greatness.

  • you're right my fault. lol

  • what a voice!

  • what a performance! only she can do that!!!

  • Got to give it to her. She did an awesome job and sill holds the word CLASS all by herself.

  • no entertainer can touch this...She is "THE BOSS"

  • always wished that she would record an album filled with these great songs.she did this really well.love her vocals.she always sounds great

  • VERY STYLISH

  • ross really puts the celebration back into the word celebrity.

  • Truly masterful vocals for this performance. And it is ONLY fitting to have Diana sing this in tribute to Judy and the Wizard of Oz. She is the only woman, other than Judy, famously associated with the character and the movie.

  • I don't know who produced this segment, but I love it. It's as if Diana is leading the whole world in song. Brilliant.

  • She was in such fine voice. That made me so emotional. lol

  • Bravo to you Miss Ross !!!!! What a Breath taking Performance !!!!

  • Ms Garland would be PROUD of you Diana

a True Icon covering a True Legend Song

you can get any better then that

  • I am with Paul on this one...I have waiting for ages for this, clear and perfect. My friend Dave sent it to me, and he could not have sent a better gift. Diana looks radiant and exhibits style and class. Nothing but the best! Thank you for posting this myguel1214. Sensational!

  • this is one of the best copies of this I've seen. Gorgeous!

  • omg, Diana was vocally flawless here. Thanks for posting this. :-)

  • It's one to have an entire audience sing with you, but, once you're able to get the WHOLE WORLD sing with you, you've reached THE PINNACLE!!!

  • I've been waiting for a clear copy of this performance. Much appreciated. Diana, as always, looked absolutely stunning. Thank you.
