  • I'm jealous... Moon is so beautiful and I can't photograph it....

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • I saw Neptune through my telescope

  • 4:42 looks interesting and judging be the laugh he found it at least slightly interesting. and 5:02

  • 5/5 stars great video

  • what kind of telescope is that? im looking to get my first and not sure what kind to get please help?

  • Yes!

  • Fantastic images. Would love to get a telescope like this one. Lots of fun. :o)

  • when i get another job i'm gonna buy a telescope at the planetarium for $120.00

  • can you see lunar module and american flag with that telescope????

  • that may be a little small for his Telescope, but with one of the really expensive high magnification telescopes you might.

  • I thought it was supposed to be made of cheese.!?

  • "the moon goes around the earth" I know you need to talk down to creationists, but EVEN THEY think the moon goes about the earth.

  • Wrong, They think Allah/God magically moves it where he wants!

  • Witch is "around the earth" XD

  • Some of them also think that the Earth is the center of the universe... still. I'm not kidding.

  • *Whoosh* - That went right over your head :p

It's so hard to tell on the internet if people are trying to be clever (and failing, because they don't understand the jokes I make) or if they get the satire in my comments, and are being sarcastic too.

lol, that would be the joke.

EVEN CREATIONISTS think the moon goes around the earth. I was making fun of thunderf00t for pointing out the most obvious thing ever, and I was making fun of creationists because even they understand that.

  • Believe me, I got it. I'm just pointing out that considering some of them think that EVERYTHING goes 'round the Earth, that's not saying too much. :)

  • you must have been freezin lol

  • wow i never saw the moon like that before i never had the time or money to get a telescope. inspiring! that BITU...

  • We've had clear blue skies here in southern

ontario now for about 3 days and the half

moon was brilliant in the morning blue sky

today and yesterday. I could barely drive

for gawking at it. Does anyone ever try to look

at the moon in a telescope during daylight?

For all I know maybe you can't.

  • nice mi friend. gretings

  • Man, that is a ghostly, beautiful sight. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have viewed this clip to wonder what it's like up there, a little away from our little corner of the cosmos.

  • The strange movements of the Earths atmosphere... Would that be from our magnetic field? You know, similar to the Arora borealis?

  • i thiiink its to do with the air in the atmosphere moving due to wind and it distorting the light... but thats just a guess.

  • Enjoyed it immensely....good shots and closeup. Didn't mind the shaking, but why do people have to blast their horns, eh?? lol

    Keep up the good work.

    sharecroppermike

  • holy shit, my telescope costs a tenth of that, and i can see the moon better.

  • I'm jealous, I've got a 12" dob which gives great seeing, but it's a proper bastard to lug around.

  • Is it true that if you got to an observatory with a strong enough telescope that you can see the flag they planted during the Apollo mission?Because that would be cool to look at :)

  • No I'm sorry, but there is a chance the Indian probe there now might catch some pictures of the stuff left there.

  • Cool thanks for answering.

  • Took my breath away. As a child I had a little telescope, about the size of my forearm, maybe a little longer, but I was never able to see anything like this (probably due to it being the length of my forearm). I've always wanted to look at the moon like that.

Just out of curiosity, how did you film it? Was it a holding the camera to the telescope job, or is it a built in thing?

  • I believe the crater with the neat sunlit mountain at the top is Aristillus. The kinda lumpy one below it and to the left is Archimedes. It took me a while to figure out what they were because the image is backwards (happens in my telescope too, but it's not nearly as powerful as yours).

What's even more fun is when the Moon is half-lit the other way and you can see Aristarchus. It looks like a shiny pearl in the Oceanus Procellarum. It as a very high albedo relative to its surroundings.

  • OK, that does it. Fuck the laptop I was saving up for. I'm getting a better telescope now.

  • Thunderfoot is batman while shawn is the joker or more like two faces son of bitch

  • this is fuckin sick thunderfoot

  • im gonna miss these films

errrr, how 'bout next year Tf00t?

  • Wat quasarsphere said, but then in case you go to Holland

  • Outstanding images.

  • Mate, you have got to come to New Zealand some time! And let me know if you ever do, I'll buy you a pint.

  • No stars?

Where were you at, the city with light polution?

  • Truly, Thunderf00t has a deep love for the universe.

  • How could anyone possibly not?

  • and a deep hate for free speech

  • A pathetic retort, grounded in misinformation and bigotry. Tf00t has committed no crime. He's merely upholding the law, thank you.

  • Wow really cool. Thanks for making =)

  • Wow, nicely done!

  • Amazing

  • Wonderous

  • wow......

I never knew you could actually see it that close up.

  • another great fascinating vid tfoot!

  • thanks for the video, thunderf00t

  • Didn't your videos use to be avaliable in high quality resolution?

  • Nice stuff! Have you considered stacking some AVIs of the Moon or Jupiter using a program like Registax? When I started out in astrophotography my setup was pretty much the same as what you're doing now - holding a video camera to the telescopes eyepiece.

  • Cant wait to go there.

  • What awesome footage!

    Great job Tf00t!

  • Seeing this reminds me of when I was using my old school hock-shop tele and the only thing I could look at was the moon. Beautiful and haunting to look at, nice vid.

  • Cheers to the locksmith, from a fellow locksmith, and cheers to thunderfoot. What a nice guy to have around in jam at 3 A.M.

  • thunderfoot is just an all around nice guy, lockbot. Check out his video of the squirrel he saved. :-)

  • Thanks, but I've already watched that one. Have to say, I think it's my favorite vid he's made. :-)

  • عجيبcool vid. do u have vid the other side of moon the dark side?

  • greatshot thanks for sharing

  • Beautiful movie as always.

  • wow, nice moonvid

not much is going on tho :)

  • great vid, thunderf00t.

  • If you don't mind waking up at 4 am you should give the Orion nebula a look. It's an impressive sight if you've never seen it before, but I don't know how well your camera would capture it.

  • THANKYOU!

  • Amazing!

  • you're an idiot chan

  • The stars don't show up because the moon is so bright. Please, don't talk unless you understand what you are talking about.

  • thats an impressive telescope!

  • wow

  • How do mountain ranges for on the moon?

  • meteor impacts

look at crater lake on earth & the moon has less gravity

  • How much did your telescope cost? I am interested in picking one up in the near future and I'm impressed with the quality of your videos.

  • If only I wasn't bombarded with light pollution for many miles around.

  • another awesome video

  • You want to show us galaxys and nebulas?

That will spoil quite some prejudices that astronomical laymen have... at least if you don't manage by some means to get some really long exposure times.. (like by having a motorized telescope)

  • The moon rotates once about every 30 days. I don't think that the shadow movement during a night wouldn't be too impressive.

You would also need a motorized telescope to make such a time lap... Which reminds me that you still haven't answered my last question :-(

  • Nice vid as always. Please make more spaceviewings for us :)

  • Christ, it looks likes its in your backyard. Thanks for posting this.

  • The moon has always been an interest of mine ever since I was a lil kid, cool vid TF.

  • Awesome!

  • bloody atmosphere!

  • it wouldn't be such a problem if the videos were taken during a really cold winter night.

During that nights you could barely forget that there is a atmosphere while looking through your telescope (at least if this atmosphere wouldn't be that bloody cold during those nights)

  • those pictures are the fakest things i've ever seen. the moon obviously does not exist.

  • what do u mean?

  • Always doing good deeds, Tf00t. Much love.

  • Did you see the Apollo lander?

  • Did you notice that Copernicus wasn't an inch across in the video? The crater is almost 60 miles (93km) in diameter. The Lunar Lander was a whole 14ft in diameter. If thunderf00t could get a picture of Copernicus to be 21,000 pixels wide (around 20 screens across) an Apollo lander wouldn't be a single pixel).

  • You are one of the best and most informative nature photographers on Youtube!

Never miss any of your stuff.

  • The moon never looked so nice.

  • Bull! You should have seen it before they walked all over it.

  • Fucking amazing man. Thanks for this.

  • Cheesy!

  • AWSOME!!! I have been wanting a telescope, woukd love to hear what your suggestions are next vid.. Cant Wait@!@!!@!@!

  • Awesome images!

  • lol a day on the sun hahaha

great video, im glad u finally got around to doing these videos

  • Hey its my house ^_^

  • I had no idea that commercial telescopes were that good. Thanks for posting!

  • 2:58 - holy shit it's a dancing rat!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOW, that was amazing.

I had no idea you could get that kind of magnification on your telescope.

    Amazing...just amazing.

  • That moon time lapse sound like something I'd love to see, excellent video!

  • awesome - i REALLY REALLY need to get a telescope now

  • I thank you for these videos. I have never looked through a telescope before, so this is quite cool to me.

I never knew you could see things so...clearly.

  • Amazing

  • Nice video again! Would rate it 5 moons, but youtube only has stars.

    But...

Shouldn't the shadows get shorter? There's a full moon coming so the sun would be more "top-down".

How large were the features that could be seen? I have no concept even for the approximate size.

  • Found something at Wikipedia: Copernicus is 90km in diameter. So the video ist approx. 500km "high".

Btw. A timelapse would be nice, but you have to do it every night for a full month to really see great changes. In a single night the angle of the sun to the moon's surface moves just 5 degrees.

  • The hardest part of that time-lapse would be following the moon as it rises and sets each night... it'd be great to see, and I've seen other time-lapses of the lunar phases, but doing it with just a telescope and a camera would be a tough task.

  • That was a last quarter moon, judging by the picture at the beginning (and thunderf00t being in the US) - when we look through the telescope the image is upside down. Last quarter moon is getting thinner, if you were standing on the observed surface of the moon the sun would be gradually setting, and the shadows getting longer and higher.

  • Of course you are right. I forgot the 180° rotation (not using telescopes that often) and assumed this is a very recent video from the last night. When I'm looking up now (already dark here in Austria, Europe), I see the first quarter moon. So it matched what I saw in the video (should have analyzed the craters ;-).

  • The moon goes round the Earth? Wow, I never would have guessed. :-)

  • This is amazing Thunderf00t!

  • To the day i have no regrets whatsoever about subscribing to this channel

    Nice video

  • Awesome! I love these videos.

  • Great video, would love to own such a telescope! Thanks again!

  • Damn these cloudy British skies!

Great video, but it honestly doesn't come close to seeing the real thing through a scope with your own eyes.

  • Sweet!.

  • i can a $20 telescope but I can't even seem to aim it correctly to see anything =P

  • awesome, truelly magnificent.

  • Yep, looking at the moon close up is awesome - I have a telescope but nowhere near was good as this one.

  • I really really appreciate these videos, thunderf00t. Thanks, again!

  • Awesome!

  • that is awesome, it seems like you could even see astronauts on the moon with that magnification.

  • I didn't know wind could cause that much interference... btw, excellent vid.

  • holy shit, this is amazing.

  • That was very cool. New stuff to see. For me, anyway.

  • Ah sweet, that view is like flying in an airplane over the surface of the moon. Your telescope kicks ass.

  • Thanks.

  • hooooooly shit.

makes my telescope look like a toy....which it kinda is...

    :(

  • FIRST 5 stars. Thunderf00t = win
