Some dude said current Gen says Hip Hop was the best 5 years ago, FUCK THAT Im 22 and say 90s.... I graduated in 2009 thats when the whole Justin Bieber/Ga Ga/Drake bullshit era started. N yea this song basically bout me as a kid in the 90s... It was like a magical dream.
Coolio's first album, It Takes a Thief, is just pure diamond from beginning to the very last track, which is exactly this joint. If you hate this track, you hate hip-hop.
Why isn't this viral??? In my opinion, this is Coolio's best.....by FAR! makes me miss the days when hip hop was all about real life and less about mansions, sex, and women.
Motown representin' at its best! I remember when this song hit the radio & when everyone heard Monessen, PA we were all callin' each other sayin', "did you hear that?" Lil' ol' Monessen in a song on the radio...who woulda thought that would happen? Brings back some great old memories for me!
I remember (no joke intended) when I took my trip Chicago five years ago. As I was coming into the city via the busy highway underpasses, I looked up and happen to see overhead to my left what appeared to be this huge 747 flying real low, preparing to land. I was reminded of this video (1:54). He's right, the past is always simpler than the present.
Also to mention there has always been bad in most the decades as well take a look at the 20s with gangsters killing people back then as well and the 60s when alot of blacks were killed. After the 90s the music quality really went downhill.
I was talking about how music quality was better back then not life in general. Music is shit these days. All music back in the 80s and 90s were better then these days. Some things were bad about the 90s like gangs and drugs like coolios mentioning and some good. The economy was much better in the 90s just to name a few take a look around at the shit going on these days compared to back then alot worse now.
funny because in the video Coolio was complaining about how terrible it was for kids raised in the 90s environment. Then you have 90s kids coming in talking about how terrible it is for kids nowadays...then you will have kids from this era talking about how terrible it is for kids in 2025....Its a rite of passage to hate on the younger generation.
@flipgood89 This is exaclty right. Like people saying hip hop was best in the 90's, when the older gen would say the 80's, and the current gen say it was best 5-8 years ago.
@PUNKem733 ...Mos Def. I get into it with heads, 'cause I get annoyed at all this prisoner of nostalgia, shit. Appreciating or reminiscing about the past is great, but when people start acting all miserable because its not such and such year anymore, I say wait a minute. Human nature orients many to want what they cant have ---- so instead of appreciating the time we're in, people want to whine about days that are long gone. Glad to see you hear me, 'cause I think its important. Stay up!
If only I could go back like that. This makes me think of when we first got cable tv and me and my brother and sisters would sit and watch MTV. Those were the days.
@silentopinion LOL!! Yeah that sounds exactly like my house. We got cable in like 1992 and we became quickly obsessed with hip hop particularly west coast rap / the G funk era at only the age of 8. I would never change it.
I wish i could go back but wishin is for suckas, life was so simple then.
i remeber .....on the real best times of my ,life in my teens now i got 3 kids 2 almost in high school i new born time flys thangs changed i remember....
class ,I remember when hip hop was good I was 14 years old when I used to listen to this one of my first hip hop albums ,but I cant find ugly bitches or ghetto cartoon on here someone please upload them !!!

I'm going to use this in my HS English class. The song is an autobiography of this man's life. IMO, there are so many words, phrases and concepts that could be taught to 14-15 year old students, in a medium that they can understand. The cadences, the rhythms and poetic structure is so damn apparent with this music. Same with Biggie's "Juicy," the song conveys and teaches so much. These two guys were geniuses in a REAL way.
Used to watch this music video when i was four in Pittsburgh, PA.. Coolio used to be on Nickolodeon too! Man I miss the 90s! I'm twenty now disgusted with todays rap game shit aint the same!
@mercilessmax2009 dang man i wasn't a kid but i loved Coolio! 94 is when this album came out, i was 22 but i loved it! 37 now and still lovin the old school hip hop like crazy! i'd love to find videos for Bright As the Sun, can o corn, even Smokin Stix, and hand on my nutsac
Yeah man I have a pretty good memory remember oo la la? Coolio was badass becuase even though he was a real crip he kept it real with tha younger kids he aint like Lil Wayne whos just a poser
@mercilessmax2009 i would even love it if there were videos on here of the clips from All That that Coolio was on! like the Good Burger skit with him, and videos of his performances including Smilin, and i know he did another one i just can't remember what song
@mercilessmax2009 you're preaching to the choir man. I have an 8 gig music player and it's full of old shit like this. I'll be damned if I am forcefed this bullshit these kids call music now a days.
this shit is gangsta. i was in middle sixth grade when this came out and had the tape and it means so much more being older. i also liked the song ugly bitches
I was 12 and was a proud owner of this Cassette! I remember back in the day when I got in a fight, it was Me vs him. Not me vs his whole crew! I miss the days of one on one scrapin! Chumps fight in groups! When I was young, it was one on one. whoever won, won! Plain and simple! If you lost, you accepted it!
Man, its funny cuz as a kid (like he said) dudes went on a kill spree, now everyone thinks they're hard and really its more like Malibu's Most Wanted haha
Black & white dudes thinkin their hard and never been 5 miles near a ghetto lol One of the few white kids that lived in the ghetto, black chics wonderin how I can grind and black dudes grillin sittin on the sidelines.
Now that's some real hip hop...

My Dad would grab pillows. Put em in his hands.
And tell me to fight.
He´d hit with pillows. and he said "hit me as hard as you can"
with my little hands I´d hit him hard.
But those pillows always seemed to whip my ass.
A simple lesson, that helped later.
RIP papa
