Simply BEAUTIFUL. This IS music. Nowadays so called artist make so called music where physical attributes are worth more than actual talent. Everyone sounds just like the last and uniqueness is a thing of the past. It is absolutely astounding the garbage that is put out today with the title of music by the music industry. My Father is a music teacher and this is what he made sure we heard on a regular basis. I thank him for exposing us to REAL music like this.
Magnificent. Celestial. Classic. Sensual. Unfortunately, English is inadequate to express the way I feel about this tune. And I am a musician. To say that they do not make them like this anymore would be a trite understatement. This is one of those "the standard by which" musicianship/art is measured. Timeless. krxn11

I like this song, it makes me feel like i want to take a stroll somewhere or take a hot bath. I'm 19, and i appreciate jazz very much thanks to my parents.
i find the good, great & awesome music in rock & metal, but i keep finding the epic music in jazz, makes me feel like just sitting somewhere ,watching the moon, half a glass of red wine in the left, beautiful women in the other.
When i listen to this track, i picture a beautiful night with the moon shining brightly reflecting upon a small controlled body of water. Thinking, with a suit and a hat looking out a balcony reflecting upon my accomplishments in life and life, while disregarding the imperfections of this fucked up world. I focus on the pure beauty, and melodic harmonies, as i see the the yellow-mixed-with-orange lights of the providing a breath of fresh air into the night. - Joseph Magsaysay
@powerboy1456 ..Ok I will explain how things are.Do you understand there are different genres of music?
Rock,Country,Latin,R&B, Metal etc..Rap music is a genre too.Black and white people make rap music. Also Black and white people make Jazz music.Do you think black guys don't make Jazz anymore? If you look for it you can find it..its not as popular as mainstream music because we live in different times..
The early to mid 20th century had the best motive for the music industry. Everything you listened to was good music and still is. Its way better than most of the stuff today. Now mostly publicity takes over the music industry and looks get you noticed not as much as sound anymore.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & of course this song is obviously your Jazz favorite. But have you even considered "So What," by Miles Davis & John Coltrane or perhaps "A Night In Tunisia" by Charlie "Bird" Parker & Dizzy Gillespie? This is a very beautiful, smooth jazz tune. Very relaxing & inviting but to say it's the greatest? Hmm. There are many who may disagree, I myself being one. However, once again, this is an awesome tune don't get me wrong. It's just not the greatest. Thanks
@MrEclecticity thanks man.I saw comment under mine and wrote the same myself.hahaha.What are xylophones then. But I did have a chance to play 'vibraphones" and that was fun.Like a piano with big keys but the sticks make it feel like a percussive instrument.I knew piano chords so I actually looked like I knew what I was doing yet I was clueless but so were the ppl watching me;)
@IxENESxI I totally agree about the tenor player. Hampton put some fabulous bands together in the early 40s. Huge energy, swinging like mad. He probably needed to cool-off by 1947 and do this small group stuff.
I have this LP. Bought it very cheaply years ago. Here goes for the personnel. Trumpet is Charley Shavers, Tenor Corky Cocoran, Willie Smith Alto, Slam Stewart on bass and on this track only, Lionel Hampton. It remains one of my favourite records and have transferred it to CD.
Perhaps the best of all the Stardust recordings (and there were some good ones--Shaw, Louis, Desmond, etc.). It's a shame it's so hard to locate on record. Willie Smith was really the 3rd member of the trinity along with Benny Carter and Johnny Hodges, and Charlie Shavers could play just about everything. Unfortunately, people took Hamp for granted after the 60s, but he slowed down his rotators, played the blues as deep as Bags, and even performed Giant Steps.
@Edwardkor Actually, I stand corrected. The intro is a saxaphone, but I believe that after that it is a trumpet. But there is a saxaphone at first, and later on as well, so that is probably what @TheLord Amish was talking about.
My mother in law would play this for me when I was newly married. She would just sit and listen and inspire me with it, telling me about back in the day. I'm older now too and wish I had been there to witness this.
thank you very much for finding that very fine record from my yong years. It is so good and silent with good artists, who had also great houmor. Perhaps the best of Lionel.

Germany is not allowing any opposition.Every German is constantly forced to take part in human rights abuses.Everybody not taking part is being tortured and/or murdered, see my channel and homepage.

actually, if you compare this song to modern electro style songs, those are very much alike in structure.
Inspiring track.

Edwardkor 1 year ago
@Edwardkor It is definitely a saxophone, not a trumpet. You can hear the reedy sound.
trailblazer225 1 year ago
@Edwardkor Actually, I stand corrected. The intro is a saxaphone, but I believe that after that it is a trumpet. But there is a saxaphone at first, and later on as well, so that is probably what @TheLord Amish was talking about.

My mother in law would play this for me when I was newly married. She would just sit and listen and inspire me with it, telling me about back in the day. I'm older now too and wish I had been there to witness this.

thank you very much for finding that very fine record from my yong years. It is so good and silent with good artists, who had also great houmor. Perhaps the best of Lionel.
