  • Thank God that there is still good music being made, like this.

  • Actually, the last bit reminds me very much of John McLaughlins Mahavishnu Orchestra...

  • After 40 years of playing guitar Ive finally started to play some slide, purely because I bought a guitar which had been made for slide by its former owner, and so I thought I'd check out Derek Trucks as I'd heard good things about him.

I have to say that THIS was not what i was expecting AT ALL!..and its BRILLIANT!

I thought I was going to hear some sort of Little Feat/Ry Cooder type of thing, instead I got North African music!

    Excellent!

  • @beachhutblues Indian music. Not North African.

  • @mahfouz666

    Really?...ok...thanks.

  • this reminds me of Alain Johanes, similar style of world music presence, love the way the guitar finds a place in any type of music genre

  • Derek I felt the first time I heard you play I was in the presence of an artist rising to be a master guitarist and musician. You were about eighteen and opened for Gregg. Allman at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. Thanks for still inspiring me.

  • omagod. 0:00 to 10:40 ftw.

  • this is on a whole nother level.

  • 25 people have serious mental problems ... fuck this is a work of art!

  • This is great.

  • What a classy selection of shirts.

  • wow, he plays so smoothly

  • DT didn't break a sweat on that lick.....he has mad slide skillz

  • BEAST!

  • It's like the earth stops moving everytime he plays that song! <3

  • lmao at the bass notes

  • Shit like Justin Beiber has over 100 million views, yet this, which is real music only has 300k views.....what's wrong with the world?

  • excellent stuff...

  • EDIT:- "Sir, your followers". I believe its a cover of a song by nusrat fateh ali khan which had the same title

  • lol, the title of the song , in my language , means "Sir, your Girl".

  • Great

  • Derek's style sounds like Steve Miller opened up his mouth to sing and Billy Gibbons guitar crunch came out.

    His sound is recognizable.

  • Great band, tighter than a duck's arse, and Derek's tone/playing is spot on - who on Earth is disliking this?!

  • MAGIC!!!

  • dereks guitar playing makes me cry D;

  • hmm... good song to smoke a good old joint to =)

  • skydog would be lovin this

  • AWwwwwwwwwwesome :O

  • I thought i could play before i watched this video. I want to play slide. never tried before.

  • i wish i could play slide like him.

  • @iiBOFTi who wouldnt ;D ?

  • nice song :)

  • Ravi would be proud

  • this melody is just incredible. i love the eastern influence and how they adapted it and made it their own. like i love how even though bass player kept the drone he still like really did his thing.

  • The way my spirit sings, and my soul speaks... Derek plays. I love him so very dearly. I don't know how else to fuckin say it. It is what it is.

  • how in the living hell could you not like this. soulless is everywhere.

  • @tessamichelleable courtesy muse :)

  • @shpfask :) indeed! haha really, though. Derek changed my life.

  • Great Instrumental. I love it. I look forward to checking out more of your tunes. Thanks for sharing.

  • awesome style, ethnic and blues linked in a great way!! ;) love it!!!

  • @DMBant27 I recommnend you listen to Pakistani music then. Its all love. :)

  • Seen them live twice in Calgary at a small venue of about a thousand. In some community hall, great sound, amazing solos by all members, all round a great show both times with a great crowd.

  • if u ppl love this...listen to maki madani ft. rahat ali

  • Oh my sweet baby blue Krishna... I'm blown away

  • Means "sir, your girl" in Hindi

  • @Xantor12345 In URDU not Hindi! :)

  • this song is like skittles for my ears, or wait its like starbursts, actually airheads... fuck it this is the sweetest thing i have ever heard

  • nusrat has taken over derek...

  • where do they get their clothes? they're almost as cool as the music

  • @btub09 i only know that his most often tuning is open e...

  • @weischamp the song's in Bb and the high E is used a lot in the "chorus" centered on Bb. (So, I agree - he's playing in open E...)

  • 18 people don't know how to get their guitar in tune

  • @mescalerotexicano 18 people like this

  • @mescalerotexicano HAHAHA, nice. :)

  • Check out Midnight in Harlem on notreble.com Sweeet.

  • not since George Harrison

  • Clearly influenced by Ustad Sultan Khan. Good stuff.

  • does anyone know what he tunes his guitar to ? is it open A ?

  • Derek Trucks is awesome!! I love that him and Susan Tedeschi now have the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Their new album Revelator is really good!

  • cant any of you close your eyes relax and LISTEN for god sake

  • Der absolute Hammer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's a fantastic guitar player.. but he's no Phil Keaggy

  • @liberoj ...and Phil Keaggy is no Derek Trucks. They're both brilliant musicians, what the point in comparing them? Just enjoy the music!

    Peace

  • R.I.P. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Respect for Mr. Trucks and his band for such a beautiful cover.

  • @Guitarexploder666 if I was onstage playing with Derek I would probably have an orgasm too!!

  • @sisyphus511 Obvious troll is obvious.

  • Made my day!!

  • @MrMousket Yes it is. it is entitled Derek Trucks Band - Songlines Live.

  • I'm so glad someone is doing something different! And he's really good at it too!

  • Anyone ever heard any word of what pickups he uses? Are they just the stock ones that come in the 61 reissue?

  • @mcbm1991 seymour duncan antiquities I'm told. Looking to get that tone by switching pickups? Good luck with that. :)

  • @adumbberg Oh I know there's no shot at getting that tone haha. Ive just always heard about all the equipment he uses but never had heard him discuss pickups.

  • @adumbberg the tone is in your hands myfriend. the electronics and gear help you find your sound, not tone(:

  • 9:25, tuning on the fly, nbd.

  • Youtube needs a loop button.

  • lol his eyebrows from 3:30 to 3:36

  • Sublime musique, influence indienne (Ali Akbar Khan), jouée par le magicien sur une SG "Duane"

  • Gotta give credit to the people behind Derek, they always kinda get dwarfed by the mighty Derek Trucks.

  • @JackMCjacky Heck yeah! His band is SOOOO talented! Best all around band Ive ever seen live.

  • I was at this concert, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Park West in Chicago. One of the best nights of my life. Trucks is an awesome talent.

  • The only thing I really feel can explain how this song makes me feel... Is his shirt. I can't even begin.

  • changi aan te mandi aan...

  • i know derek is great, but lets show the other guys some love... kofi kills it on flute and keys, todd on bass, and yonrico on drums!!

  • @swosene and that guy playing the tambourine, who i assumeis turkish

  • yeah all those guys are like gods

  • @swosene ive never personally met..r families dont really get along i suppose

  • @dogerman11 Great uncle? How old is your grandfather?

  • @theatlantisrise idk i never met him i think he died before i was born i got a single granddad left on my dads side that i think is 77 not really sure

  • @dogerman11 To make this easier, what is your relation to Butch and Duane [Trucks], respectively?

  • @theatlantisrise my relation personally? ive never met or seen them in my life i just know that derek trucks and susan tedesche are my great uncle and autn :)

  • @dogerman11 I think you have your relational terms wrong...I am interested to know though, if youre correct, could you please find out the lineage for the sake of a huge Derek Trucks fan?

  • @theatlantisrise what do u mean exactly?

  • @dogerman11 he means in order for Derek Trucks to be your great uncle, he'd have to be your grandfather's brother....highly unlikely if he's around your other grandfather's age considering Derek Trucks is like 32

  • @sk8rbuoi hmm rlly?

  • @dogerman11 Ah ok I see we have a troll on our hands I should've known better

  • @sk8rbuoi troll? hees really my great uncle lol

  • @sk8rbuoi They are all southern rock based and stuff, it's probably more likely than you think!! kidding, I love DT and ABB but still pretty funny

  • @dogerman11 well ask your great uncle if I can have my pen back he accidentally took it in Lewiston, Ny

  • @dogerman11 i come to find out hes my dads cousin ;)

  • Lucky.

  • @dogerman11 Derek Trucks is great.

  • @dogerman11 you are southern rock royalty! i worship you! no not really, but that's awesome that you're related to him

  • @dogerman11 great uncle? how old are you?

  • my____/bonnardsbluesband

  • Derek Trucks never plays a wrong note, has so many different styles. Best alive for sure

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz......

  • There are no doubts in my mind that this man is the best living musician. This type of virtuosity cannot be described in words.

  • Watched this several times now - loving that badass drummer - but isn't the flute miked up at the wrong end? (from about 4.50)

  • A true Master

  • Amazing!! Yeah... the 50 Gibson SG facts got me here too... so glad I checked this out! I knew, I mean I KNEW... that DT was a badass... but dammmmmmm... not just anybody can grok the microtonal stuff he's jammin out here. Truly special and beautiful!

  • anyone know if he's playing in a different tuning? i have no idea how the fuck he gets that sound...simply amazing

  • @LikeALedZeppelin Yes he tunes his guitar iin open E major tuning, just like Duane Allman. I took quite some time to figure that out!

  • I was brought here by reading 50 Gibson SG facts.. :) ..

  • @muziquero28 Yeah, me too - most amazing piece of guitar playing I've seen in some time. Lovin it

  • I think there might have been 15 people whose minds were so blown by this that they clicked the wrong thumb

  • Just Love this tune!!!

  • ouch...!!

  • can someone tell me how high the actions supposed to be for slide guitar? i tried on statndard action set guitars it works fine but on mine it seems to be lots of fret buzz for slide-___-

  • I remember seeing them at "Ripple Fest:" about 6 yrs ago! lol Loved them back then and still do!!!! I danced my butt off and couldn't stop.

  • can one marry a song?? id like to marry this one. i just got dumped today and i feel like listening to this song until i die

  • @randycalifornia Are you he or she I am interested...

  • @janab11 a he

  • Wow! Just beautiful man!

  • Beautiful. Think of the versatility of the SG. This same singing guitar commands AC/DC! Coolness!

  • so awesome!

  • pure genius.

    greets from Macedonia:)

  • the man loves his guitar and what he does with it, its not just an instrument, its like a companion who completes your very existence...incredible!!!

  • He makes that SG truuuuly sing. :]

  • @sisyphus511 Beatles, no substance in their music? Be honest, do you have down syndrome?

  • @StockholmSyndrome08 your comment made me laugh but in all fairness the beatles, as brilliant as they were, are still seen as a pop band by some. melodic hooks and a money grubbing jew band manager will do that to u

  • Comment removed

  • @sisyphus511 you are anti semitic and a disgrace

  • Comment removed

  • @sisyphus511 Nusrat fateh was a legend bro, but please don't bash the beatles if you do not like them and are too narrow minded to appreciate their music.

  • Comment removed

  • @sisyphus511 Oh ok yea they were very shallow..... since you say so, you must be smarter than all of us. I won't argue, millions of people don't know better, we are all crazy and don't know good music, neither do other legendary musicians, but I am pretty sure you do. I bow down to you... NOT!

  • @sisyphus511 Wow! Really? I'm sorry, have YOU changed the course of music history several times in YOUR lifetime??? LOL Seriously...damn, what's the emoticon for silly boob again...

  • Comment removed

  • @sisyphus511 how did this get to be the top rated comment?? the beatles effin rule!!!

  • @NintendoSinceBirth1 what on earth did he pick he fight with the beatles ?? that dude is dumb as it gets

  • @sisyphus511 i respectfully disagree; though they caught the eye of bleary eyed crowds, i wouldnt say they were very shallow in their musical acheivements..look back before they were big

  • @sisyphus511 Derek would be the first to tell you (more gently than some might, btw) that the Beatles were extremely important, musically. You can't seriously maintain that lyrics like 'Across the Universe' or 'Eleanor Rigby' were directed at 'bleary-eyed crowds'. And George was the first to apply classical Indian disciplines to electric slide guitar. You don't have to like the Beatles, but please tread more gently. I thought we were all professional musicians here.

  • @sisyphus511

drop acid and listen to this, you'llchange your mind.

  • @sisyphus511 You heard Sisyphus, Derek - cut your hair!

  • that was such a pleasure to listen to!

  • this is called making love with the guitar

  • 14 people missed the like button :)

  • soooooooooo good

  • derek trucks never go to the guitar shop to repair his guitar fret.. ;P

  • WOW - I grew up listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - who is a legend. What Derek has done is just amazing, I can't stop listening... Truly Hats off to you and the group...

  • HOLY....I DIDN'T KNOW NUSRAT DID THIS FIRST. RIGHT ON!!!!!

  • я не понимаю как дэрык трокс еед так талантливый

  • Ever heard the expression "Making a guitar sing"? Well THIS is it.

  • I honestly thought "I'm probably as good as Duane Allman sliding" then i saw Derek Trucks playing this marvelous piece of slide. And it appears to me : "God I'm just a sh*t playing the guitar..."

  • The drummer is extreamly underated. he is very talented in a variety of different drumming styles. I was lucky enough to see the Derek Trucks band in 2009, SIMPLY AMAZING! I wish they woulda played this song.

  • The greatest slide player ever!

  • @pleximanic

I thought that was Jeff Beck

  • @666patrickbateman666 Hahahahahahahaha Beck doesnt hold a candle to Trucks, especially when it comes to slide playing. I think Jeff, a legend himself, would agree.

  • @666patrickbateman666 Beck does a beautiful Indian song called "Nadia". It is party played using the slide.

  • I know all his work and his the one of the guitar player who plays with the heart across the fingers.. feeling , technic , creativity

  • Absolutely amazing....Thank you for sharing this beautiful thing.
