After 40 years of playing guitar Ive finally started to play some slide, purely because I bought a guitar which had been made for slide by its former owner, and so I thought I'd check out Derek Trucks as I'd heard good things about him.
I have to say that THIS was not what i was expecting AT ALL!..and its BRILLIANT!
I thought I was going to hear some sort of Little Feat/Ry Cooder type of thing, instead I got North African music!
Derek I felt the first time I heard you play I was in the presence of an artist rising to be a master guitarist and musician. You were about eighteen and opened for Gregg. Allman at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. Thanks for still inspiring me.
this melody is just incredible. i love the eastern influence and how they adapted it and made it their own. like i love how even though bass player kept the drone he still like really did his thing.
Seen them live twice in Calgary at a small venue of about a thousand. In some community hall, great sound, amazing solos by all members, all round a great show both times with a great crowd.

You can't seriously maintain that lyrics like 'Across the Universe' or 'Eleanor Rigby' were directed at 'bleary-eyed crowds'. And George was the first to apply classical Indian disciplines to electric slide guitar. You don't have to like the Beatles, but please tread more gently.
