keeping tabs on the guy who kindnapped him and another boy. You feel powerless to stop what's happening to you and then you have sympathy for the person who kidnapped you.
Anybody can ask the question "why didn't she just take he kids and run?"? But you have to understand that anybody who's been kidnapped and held captive for as long as Jaycee has that's all you know and you don't think that youc an escape from the abuse and the horror that you've lived with for most of your teenaged and adult life.
I think that Jaycee was just too scared. Sean is right. He was brainwashed by his kidnapper for 4.5 years and still the law enforcement officials failed him by not
Another great video... especially the remarks by Shawn Hornbeck. He's right, he did learn a lot of positive lessons from his terrible ordeal. With his supportive, loving family, he should be able to hang onto those lessons and keep getting better. I hope Ms. Dugard can do the same.
If I understand correctly, Shawn Hornbeck was brought back (to what they thought was his home) on two occasions. Fear or no fear, but if you are alone with the police in a squad car, how do you not say, "help me, I was taken from my family!"
Maybe the fear goes beyond that of the abductor, but to their own families.
Maybe these kids think, what will my parents think of me? how will I face them?
It just can't always be blamed on the Stockholm Syndrome.
Kidnappings happened to people a lot back in the days of explorers, early settlers & back in the wild west. Ever read the story of Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims? He was kidnapped and enslaved like Saint Patrick. Squanto's story didn't have a happy ending. His family had already died of a plague when he came home. But he found joy & fulfillment helping his fellow man, saving lives & adopting a new family. St. Patrick escaped & later returned to bring the Gospel to Ireland. (Romans 8:28,29)
@leigh1976 , if only i could have stopped these devils from kidnapping her. The only good karma that should come back to them is in a locked room with me. I would have skinned those devils alive. Why God does not grant me the forseeing power to stop these demons and devils I will never know.
some victims also develop Stockholm syndrome, were they feel sympathy towards their abuser also feel deserving of the punishment they receive. Being in that situation, you can never predict what your reaction is going to be.
i was abused and isolated by my husband for 10 yrs...you are brainwashed and scared, you feel inprisoned in your mind....and with no outside support system to help you snap out of it, your pretty much a prisoner. i know exactly how she felt...,i snapped out of it when i decided to go to college and made more contacts with people...only then did i talk, this is why he had her locked up and isolated, she may confide in someone. hugs and prayers to Jaycee and those precious little girls
hi, i have a lifetime restraining order, it wasn't good at all for a few years, then he remarried, he stalked me, and yes, haunted me, terrorized me and tore apart my car at any chance he got, ran his truck into my house, broke in and hit me in the head with a crowbar, ran me off the road with his car, kidnapped our child for almost a yr. made up lies about me to protective services.... i could go on and on, it was a living nightmare, it's been almost 20 yrs, and i am finally getting counseling.
Yes I can agree on all your points, I think if you have never been in a situation whether it be domestic or a kidnapping, you cannot ever possibly imagine the fear and the endless invisible chains that are placed upon you. I started this channel cause I was a victim of a botched kidnapping and I wanted to give others information and hope, these kids and adults did not ask for this to happen to them, and understanding is what they need, all these comments get people talking and questioning ...
@Gina48858 My ex imprisoned me to the point where I rarely got to leave the house (never independently) for about 2 years when I tried leaving him. It took him wanting to kill me to get him to wake up enough to his own insanity and let us go. I know the taste of freedom well. I cry sometimes just going to the grocery store to buy a gallon of milk for my children now. It goes without saying but savor your freedom, Gina and Jaycee. It's the most beautiful thing on earth.
I don't get why people always compare Dugard to Elizabeth Smart. I mean there's a big difference between being kidnapped for 9 months, and 18 YEARS!!! Smart was able to finish high school and is attending college. For Dugard, when she meets people and they talk about school (who doesn't?), Dugard's going to have alot of anger built up in her that she never went to middleschool, high school, or uni.
@nebula88 I no but there also alike in many way, they were both young bondes who were kidnapped by Strangers (both a man & woman) wth Religious delusions, and they were treated Very similar during there abductions, and Liz Smart is the closest they have to theJaycee Lee case.
Uh, I dunno. Liz gets to go off to college and it's easy to put the past behind her. Jaycee was raped throughout her teenage years (and possibly young adult), and is now 29 and has never attended school higher than 4th or 5th grade.
When I say "gone" I mean a chance to escape. Like the abuser goes to the store or the abused uses the phone or computer. Like an abused woman goes to work or on trips...they go home to the abuser. They don't get away, or run away/escape.
@leigh1976 I probably shoudn't mention this because of the extreme vitriolic abuse that I have seen directed toward Noreen Gosch. Yes, I believe her. A thing that devastated her credibility is that she told the story of her 27-year-old son tracking her down to tell her he was alive. He was accompanied by a silent young man who monitored the entire conversation with his mother. Johnny told her he had been held captive by a group of pedophile pimps, Invisible Chains make sense with Johnny.
With the documented cases of Elisabeth Fritzl, Elizabeth Smart, Natascha Kampusch, Shawn Hornbeck and Jaycee Lee Dugard all displaying the same behavior Noreen alleges her son displayed, maybe there will finally be justice for Johnny Gosch after all these years of suffering.

I think of the relationship of a kidnapper or women in abusive relationships like this. When the bad person is gone they are still there. Like when a stone hits the water. It isn't there but the ripples are. They brain knows the person is gone but the person isn't gone in the abused/captives mind. They aren't rid of that person just because that person is gone. The captor is still in the mind of the abused. That is why the abused person doesn't leave or run away.
@fancyfrenchy Precisely. I've been free now for almost 3 years (in Feb 2011!) but in a lot of ways, I'm all too aware that I'm still mentally shackled. Jaycee was far younger and kidnapped outright. I can't compare my own experience with hers but I know the kind of mind games people like Garrido and my ex play. It's brutal.

you will NEVER understand unless it happens to you. don't dare judge her for not running - words can't explain what it's like.
