So he can go and blow up Maccragge. It's not like wastefully expending the lives of underlings in order to convince the good guys they're fighting their way out is a new idea...
This is a good movie but what they don't seem to realise is that if a space marine took an axe to the shoulder it wouldn't actually bother him, in fact he is likely to be annoyed buy it.
this movie is horrid for a warhammer fan and simplfys warhammer to a crowd which it should never, ever, ever try and go for. the chaos here look like they are orks with their tactics and sound like they are demons, these are just normal chaos marines, they are not possessed yet thus, talk like a normal marine. Also these marines sound like they should be guardsmen NOT space marines becuase they sound like generic jarheads. A real marine should not be cracking jokes like these either.
I'm upset with how weak they made Chaos look in this scene. Chaos are supposed to be doppelgangers to Space Marines, equal in every way, yet corrupt by the warp. Their power armor is supposed to be just as effective, and their bolts just as deadly. It would have made more sense to have been ambushed by a squad similar in size to the Ultramarines, that results in a protracted and intense fight between loyalist and traitor.

Sadly, this is the most fun bit of the movie. Its not bad tho, I just find it slightly stiff. If there were more animated GW shtuff I think we would all be much happier earthlings.

The combat looks cool but CSM died way too easy. Reg mutants/heretics would've been better for this scene, with a few CSM giving the Ultrasmurfs a hard fight and killing each other in equal measure. The Chaplain and Chaos Lord could've fought. A lot of stuff coulda been done better but it's a decent movie nonetheless.
@Dephoneon Dude, you wanna make this shit like the Table top, okay, The Ultramarines will go through their moving phase, then shooting phase, then check if they are within six inches of the chaos to see if they can assault them, listen your distain for the Ultramarines aside, the tabletop game would not translate well to the movie.
John Hurt seemed to give a good performance, but if this is any indication, I am very glad that I didn't buy this movie. Cheaply done animation, horrific voice acting (John Hurt excluded, of course), and a terrible representation of space marine on chaos marine combat. If you're going to put 40k onto a movie screen, at least try to make it look like you've read all the wonderful background fluff in the codexes, like THQ does. Disappointing.

The best way to pull off a 40k movie is to make it in the most unbiased way possible. Everyone wants BT, BA, SW space marines. Or a guard movie. They need to focus on a faction that can show a little bit of everything the Imperium and 40k universe has to offer. Really the best way to do that is to have it focus more on the adventures of an inquisitor. Akin to Eisenhorn or something similar to that. I don't say that as a fan boy for any faction but as a the best way to represent the 40k IP.
When you have someone like Abbadon for a leader, why should you be surprised the Black Legion has failed to conquer a world defended by only a few Space Marines?

@ast1999WtF Flanking is from behind, so when you are standing in a circle with your backs together it makes you unflankable, because the enemies will always be seen. But i know what you mean.

Warhammer 40,000 that was created by Rick Priestley in 1987. Thus ideas for weapon concepts that some of them used in GOW might be improvised to remove any copyright infringement. I'd do the same thing too if i want to find more ideas.
I feel like this very poorly represented the Space Marines in general, who would be nowhere near as nervous as they were and could take much worse damage then they did.

this scene is EPIC, but as a whole, the movie sucks. Yes the story is a bit out of universe and blah blah, but what makes it all unbearable is the fact that THIS is the only good action scene in the whole movie.. disappointing. to make matters worse, it looks like the animation is on the level of a game like halo 2. if your gonna make a boring movie, at least make it pretty.
I assume, being Black Legion and all, a good portion of these Chaos Marines have been fighting for -at least- 10k years. During the HH era they were expert tacticians, more than a match for Ultras.... Why is it they seem to have lost all that talent? Surely after 10 millenia their fighting prowess should have increased somewhat, rather than just simply "Charge!"? :P

Ultrasmurfs are NOT that sexy on the tabletop:
1. If it hadn't have been for the IMPERIAL FISTS' Chaplain, then they would be fucked.
2. The Crozius doesn't do that on the tabletop, so thay would have been fucked anyway.
3. If the characters in this film were Blood Angels or Space Wolves, this would have been an entirely different story.
4. For instance, they wouldn't have been fucked over by a few chaos marines while they were in a FUCKING LAND SPEEDER.
5. That chaplain has a sexy voice.

The best way to pull off a 40k movie is to make it in the most unbiased way possible. Everyone wants BT, BA, SW space marines. Or a guard movie. They need to focus on a faction that can show a little bit of everything the Imperium and 40k universe has to offer. Really the best way to do that is to have it focus more on the adventures of an inquisitor. Akin to Eisenhorn or something similar to that. I don't say that as a fan boy for any faction but as a the best way to represent the 40k IP.

@ast1999WtF Flanking is from behind, so when you are standing in a circle with your backs together it makes you unflankable, because the enemies will always be seen. But i know what you mean.

@Rubentje7 but this game came way ahead of Gears of war which started on in November 2006, i'd believed the author and the team who devised the game played
Warhammer 40,000 that was created by Rick Priestley in 1987. Thus ideas for weapon concepts that some of them used in GOW might be improvised to remove any copyright infringement. I'd do the same thing too if i want to find more ideas.

But the story was pretty good, except that in that movie you were eighter a red shirt or a mary sue. Eighter die without 2 lines or kill a bunch a shit.

this scene is EPIC, but as a whole, the movie sucks. Yes the story is a bit out of universe and blah blah, but what makes it all unbearable is the fact that THIS is the only good action scene in the whole movie.. disappointing. to make matters worse, it looks like the animation is on the level of a game like halo 2. if your gonna make a boring movie, at least make it pretty.

I assume, being Black Legion and all, a good portion of these Chaos Marines have been fighting for -at least- 10k years. During the HH era they were expert tacticians, more than a match for Ultras.... Why is it they seem to have lost all that talent? Surely after 10 millenia their fighting prowess should have increased somewhat, rather than just simply "Charge!"? :P

@TyranidsBJ Meh. They've been in existence for that long, maybe, but that's mostly in the Eye of Terror, where time flows about as smoothly as a clockwork bumfuck.
And similarly, the Black Legion is the equal opportunities Chaos legion. I'm sure it's gotten plenty of Fabius Bile-produced soldiers, renegades, etc to bolster its ranks.
