  • Damn private torturers!

  • Kubrick made the right move!

  • My favorite line was when he was shouting at Leonard (pyle) as he was climbing off the obstacle: "IM GONNA RIP YOUR BALLS OFF, SO YOU CANNOT CONTAMINATE THE REST OF THE WORLD!"

  • @Dzubur93 Yeah, I loved that! I laughed so hard.

  • Um...he forgot to tell us that he had someone pelting him with oranges while filming that expo!!!

  • How could they NOT have used him? lol

  • An actor can't replace someone who actually used to perform the job of Drill Instructor =D

  • "SIR WHAT ARE U GOING TO CALL ME A ASSHOLE!!" lol love that line

  • this guy is the absolute best

  • Thank you for your persistence, SIR!!!

  • " You gotta shittin me, YOU CALL THAT A MOVIE SCRIPT! THE FAIRY FUCKIN GOD MOTHER can write a boot camp scene better that that! Get on your knees SCUMBAG!"

  • Ermney -Outstanding- Period, Outstanding!!!

  • Ok, long story short, this guy made Full Metal Jacket, not Kubrik ???

Cuz no one seems to know the second part of the movie, is that right?

  • @novembrine1 Slow down and READ!

  • @zwicksan

Can I be in charge for a while? Oh thank you very much!

  • @novembrine1 The only other part of it people really remember are the "you have to lead them a little less" joke.

  • He is the best, if he was my Dad, i'd follow orders, lol!

  • He wrote the insults?....he is god!

  • FYI the actor that they originally hired was Tim Colceri.

  • Basically Gunny is saying he made the movie what it is. And you know what? It's true.

  • hhmmmm i wonder what Full Metal Jacket would have been if the gunny wouldnt have been the drill instructer?

  • @ViolentAlcoholic

    I was being completely sarcastic.

  • Guy is such a bad ass. He's the man. Everyone and their mama knows you don't fuck with the originator of bad assitude :)

  • what was gunnys actual job in the marines?

  • @cromag4golf Drill instructor...

  • Lee Ermey is an idol :D

  • Heard that he actually scared the crap out of Kubrick. He barked an order and Kubrick reflexively snapped to attention.

  • It's a bit of a shock to see him speaking normally without yelling and swearing his ass off...

  • R. Lee Ermey rescued Kubrick's butt. "Full Metal Jacket" is a pretty weak film after Ermey is killed off. But the Drill Instructor scenes are worth watching again and again.

  • @fliegeroh na cuz animal mother saves the ending of the movie but yea the middle is boring and week

  • @fliegeroh Agree with you. But remember that it was Kubrick who chose him to act in the movie as the Sergeant Hartman.

  • @fliegeroh

    I agree 100%

When they go to war this movie becomes a complete pile of crap. It's like the boot camp scenes and the war scenes are from 2 different movies with 2 different directors and one of them really sucks. Lol.

  • @fliegeroh Derp you missed the whole point of the movie.

  • @HoboJIm117 - Tell us Jim, what was the point of the movie.

  • @fliegeroh War is unnecessary. Joker was the only individual in the movie with common sense, hence his peace medallion and constant questioning of authorities.

The ending scene, where they march away, is symbolic of the entire war being "bullshit", colloquially known as "Mickey Mouse" in the military.

Watch Rob Ager's analysis, it's amazing. Hopefully it will change your narrow view of movie; it's got excellent undertones. The point of the movie is a powerful social commentary.

  • @HoboJIm117 - Nonesense, where in the entire film is there any argument that the war was unnecessary? Everyone, in the film is a Marine. Marines aren't drafted, they were volunteers. Everyone in the film was pro war though totally unprepared for the situation they found themselves in. As a person who grew up during that time, Joker just doesn't ring true as a young man of the sixties. He is more like the young person of a generation later. A pretty weak film. Paths of Glory was better.

  • @fliegeroh Of course, because Stanley Kubrick produced shallow and weak films.

    ಠ_ಠ

  • @fliegeroh -You are generally correct, but there was still one other good scene after Ermey goes away. The horny prostitute scene is also great.

  • @fliegeroh Pity to see that you did not get the movie at all.

  • @fliegeroh Only kids and sadists think that.

  • @fliegeroh now don't get me wrong cause Emery did a great job in FMJ, but the movie is great after the drill scene too.

There are many great scenes after the boot camp scene; my personal favorite is when Animal tries to save his fallen comrades after being picked off by the sniper.

Really touching to see a tough guy go from BAMF to a caring soldier who does his best to save his fellow comrades.

but you're right that the gunny's performance is great with the Parris Island scenes.

  • @fliegeroh i kno, those r my favorite parts of the movie. Kubrick couda just stretched out the training a bit more to make it a movie bout marine training.

  • @fliegeroh

You got that right. No doubt about it, I only watch it because of Ermey...and a little because of Animal Mother haha.

  • He doesn't torture privates, he rips your balls off so you won't contaminate the world. Short, direct, and to the point.

  • Can you imagine a world where another person played Sgt Hartman? I can't.

  • As a gladly former Marine, the way he potrayed Gunny Hartman(which in real life he wouldn't have lead all the exercises he did....anyways, he was dead-on with the playing of a DI. He as given free reign on dialogue, as the video said. I do believe that is why the character is immortal!

  • I was to a Marine Corps Ball in Okinawa a few years back where he was there....he did his Gunny Hartman character and then became the nicest, most humble man. His humor and wit is the best!

  • Now get on your face and gimme 25!

  • Get the f*ck off of my obstacle! Get the f*ck down off of my obstacle! NOW! MOVE IT! Or I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world!!!

  • he is so chill here hahaha

  • Your awesome!

  • Bullshit! It looks to me like the best part of you ran down the crack of your momma's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress! I think you been cheated!

  • "Torturing privates." LOL

  • If he wouldnt have rewrote his own lines and they would have went the other way with the role of DI I wouldnt have liked the movie near as much. I prob wouldnt have liked it at all to be honest. The 1st half is my fav part beside a camera getting stolen and the what do I get for $5 part...

  • If this guy wasn't in the movie it wouldn't be nearly as good.

  • This guy is so F'n awesome.

  • @panache1971 Yes he is Beyond Awesome. He is what America truly is, FMJ is truly an all time favorite for all Grunts. A true depiction of our lives in the field and BEFORE..

  • He damn near stole the film

  • ONE BEST ACTOR OF ALL TIME HE DESERVEAN A OSKAR MAN

  • R. LEE ERMEY AS PRESIDENT!!

  • Why is this rat bastard not making full use of his connections to form a platoon to go out and frag that rat bastard obama and pos ag eric holder? Shame on every Marine for allowing pukes to mis-manage our countries wealth, give trillions to ziobolsheviks and murder civilians. WTF! What happened to Semper Fi? Damn the banking families and damn the military corporation owners & stock holders.

  • Thats true :) They needed him in FMJ :)

  • @ironlam97 =D

  • my hero

  • wow, so weird to see that guy just talking

  • I want to see that audition tape!

  • @ufuckfacesonofabitch Yes. I'd pay to see that one.

  • whats your name fatbody!??!

  • I got to meet R. Lee Ermey :D

  • @DEOXYS987 Lucky SOB!!! xDD

  • @iPrestiges yeah he was at a law enforcement firearrm distrubuter so i got his autograph and took some pictures with him!

  • Lee Ermey wrote the first half of FMJ. That's pretty cool.

  • good video

  • He's actually a really nice guy and kind of soft spoken in person.

  • imagin r lee ermey as your grand pa "grandpa, can i have a pbj sandwitch? "FUCK U ,YOU SNOT NOSSED LITTLE FUCKER!"

  • How tall are you private? "5 foot 9 SIR" 5 FOOT 9? I DIDN'T KNOW THEY STACKED SHIT THAT HIGH!!!!!

  • Holy Fuck. I didn't know that the Pentagon has a channel.

  • @toqtaqiya makes you think twice before trolling don't it ? lol

  • He's also Mayor Tilman in Mississippi Burning.

  • This was uploaded on my 16th birthday. R. Lee Ermey is kick ass. He one of my favorite actors.

  • The man scares the SHIT out of me!

  • He interpeted and translated the role as he would have in the barracks as any DI would

  • @rossiQA Bullshit, you can suck a golf ball out of a garden hose!

  • Ermey played the role brilliantly, but I seriously wonder, him being a proud military servant, whether he understood at all what the film was meant to be about; the inhumanity of the army and man himself, and the monsters it turns people into.

  • @manutdbass19 what the fuck are you talking about? Army? Marine Corps dipshit.... and yes the Gunney knew "exactly" what the message of the move was: "Make the other dumb bastard die for his country"...

  • @1632jimroberts That's the message of the film for you? I think I.Q tests should be given out to people who want to watch Kubrick films before watching it. And goddamit this is the second time someone's corrected me between Marines and Army... who gives a fuck, they're both disgusting and only turn people into killing machines. Or maybe you like that, I don't know.

  • @manutdbass19 Actually, the film is more about other vietnam movies. It's about how everybody SEES war and Vietnam, and showing them all of the sides. It goes into propaganda film territory, anti-war film territory, and nearly comedy territory with the beginning. It's really a message about people's VIEW on war, not as much on war itself. The time period was either you wanted it to end or you didn't, and this film reflects both sentiments.

  • @Bassbait Hmm. Well, your views are far more rational and interesting than the idiot who originally replied to me. i guess theyre's different ways on interpreting it. If you knew stanley kubrick though, you'd maybe see it much more like i did. I personally felt it didnt matter where it was set, it was just a film trend at the time to do "Viet Movies", used as a backdrop in FMJ. personally, I felt the message was a lot deeper. For me, it's a brilliant film about how disgusting the human race is.

  • @manutdbass19 Trust me, I KNOW Kubrick. 2001 is my favorite movie, Shining second and FMJ 3rd. I see Full Metal Jacket as a film about war films, not about war. It's about war from the perspective of people who never went there. I've always felt an element of deception in his films, and each film has themes that somewhat contradict what people assume the movie is about. He's the greatest director ever because he's able to make films like this. It's only Vietnam because it's an adaptation.

  • @Bassbait Same here, I absolutely love 2001 and Kubrick. But you'd know that Kubrick is a massive satirist on the human race and very into philosophy. All his films seem to affirm some pessimism against man. The dark humor in Full Metal Jacket is part of this. The biting sarcasm, after seeing a film about the horror of the human race, seeming to not offer any optimism for man, of suddenly hearing the Rolling Stones' very upbeat, energetic song Paint it Black in the credits was incredible

  • @Bassbait Although, if you don't look at the film from a more philosophical style viewpoint (which i did), then i would probably agree with you

  • @Bassbait But even if you did look at it that way but didn't seem to feel that was the message of the film, then who cares? We just happen to have different view and interpretations of it, end of. that's what great art's all about isn't it?

  • Thank god they picked him for the role too!

  • What a superb acting! :)

  • Maybe they should have kept the original scrip. Cause drill , do love it . well alot of them.

  • You are the king!

  • guys i need a favor... can someone put a subtitle here? i'm from Brasil and here we speak portuguese, so, i can read the sub in english but i cant understand english in that speed!

    tanks so far!

  • I would not mind Gunny Ermy being President. I really would not. My vote would be in faster than a 7.62 mm round out of an assault rife.

  • Thank God Ermy decided to rewrite the first part of the script. Imagine what freak show we could've been watchin if it were left the way it was. Great man and a great character as well.

  • I knew when I saw him on full metal jacket, he was so damn good just fo being a simple actor. good job!

  • R Lee Ermey in 12!!

  • SEMPER FI DO OR DIE!!!!!!!

  • great video

  • OH RAH!

  • Hahaha..."The drill instructor enjoyed torturing privates" lulz

  • he does enjoy torturing privates, with a tazer gun!!

  • Thats interesting, you know what makes me sad? YOU DO

  • I love this guy.

  • Adolf Hitler killed himself on April 30, 1945. R. Lee Ermey was born April 29, 1945. Coincidence, I think not.

  • @lorderik237 He was born March 24, 1944 sorry

  • Comment removed

  • @DemCheggs just a joke lol, not meant to be taken seriously

  • @lorderik237 OMG thats today (30) happy hitler suicide day!

  • @lorderik237 r. lee ermey was born on March 24, 1944...you fail

  • @yellow10jacket If you had noticed my reply to DemCheggs, you would have realized that it was a joke.

  • @lorderik237 R. Lee Ermey was the bullet that went through many enemies of the USA.

  • @lorderik237 He was born on 24 March 1944. You're and idiot.

  • @lorderik237 He was born on 24 March 1944. You're an idiot.

  • @TheNotoriousJWB Wow, how many times do I have to tell people it was a joke? Did you even read the other comments?

  • @lorderik237 Nevermind, all it takes on youtube to be classified as an idiot in someones eyes is to missplace a comma.

  • @lorderik237 he was BORN on March 24, 1944......

  • @lorderik237 March 24th.

  • @lorderik237 wtf? According to IMDb, he was born March 24, 1944.

  • @MayasMoviebox Wikipedia seconds that.

  • @lorderik237 a day after my birthday. :D

  • @lorderik237 He was born March 24, 1944, The Nazis surrendered May 8, 1945.

  • @zues998 OH MY GOD.....STOP RESPONDING TO THIS FUCKING COMMENT ALREADY

  • @lorderik237 Get your facts right dip shit and I wouldn't have to.

  • @zues998 grow up dip shit and realize it was a joke.

  • @lorderik237 Wasn't very funny to say the least.

  • @zues998 well then don't comment

  • @lorderik237 Get you're facts right and I wouldn't have to.

  • @zues998 Like I said before, it was a joke, not facts. If you don't find it amusing, I don't really care.

    Btw, it's 'your' not "you're"

  • @lorderik237 This is by far the funniest World War 2 remark I have EVER seen!

  • @lorderik237 so ur saying, lee ermy is hitler reincarnated?

  • @randallschecter i hope you're joking

  • @XB0XFR34K i am and i love lee ermy, but dude said he was born the day after hitler died, thats how reincarnation works, someone dies and some1 is born at same time. gunny for president!

  • @randallschecter well i think that comment was a joke, but Ermey was not infact born on the 29th.

The comment was about how much of a bad ass R lee Ermey is. That since hitler killed himself on the day after ermey was born that shows how scared hitler was. If you dont understand the joke im sorry

  • @XB0XFR34K na, baby ermey killed hitler himself!

  • @randallschecter no... if he was hitler reincarnated, then how would he be born a day before he killed himself?

  • @lorderik237 na i thought he was born the day after, not before for some reason.

  • @lorderik237 nope he was born march 24th 1944

  • @lorderik237 What the hell are you babbling about. He was born march 24 1944.

  • Him and the guy from Gran Torino would be good friends.

  • @Americanpatriot777 "the guy from Gran Torino" Are you serious? It's Clint Eastwood.

  • @simoneaux15 I know its Clint Eastwood i just couldnt remember his name from the movie...

  • @Americanpatriot777 Oh ok, I'm sorry. I didn't know.

  • @Americanpatriot777 clint eastwood is like the best actor ever..or one of them....look it up

  • @airsoftrules987 ,clint the best actor?best actors can play all kind of characters....

  • my respect to sergeant hartman I am also sergeant (staff sergeant)

  • You people need to find out the real definition of a socialist. A socialist is someone like Adolf Hitler whom hated pretty much everyone and had millions of people killed. Our current president clearly is not that type of person. If you want to blame someone for the millions of deaths that started in 2003 in the middle east, blame the president in charge then.

  • @hitchwatch ... you mean Vacationer in chief

  • Why does R. Lee Ermey hate our Commander-in-Chief?

  • @hitchwatch Because our commander in chief is a sniveling little socialist twerp that goes against everything that America was built on..but I don't expect any liberal to understand anything that has to do with any type of morality.

  • @Greenmarine6 What's wrong with socialism?

  • @Pilaf1984 Read George Orwell's "1984" That should give you an indication of what is wrong with Socialism.

  • @hitchwatch Because hes a socialist anti american fuck.

  • why wouldn't you cast R. Lee Ermey as a drill instructor for the marine corps

  • most previous Vietnam war shows have been previously done...

  • God, Stanley Kubrick sounds dense. X(

  • lol, "...like he just enjoyed torturing privates"

    *Queue immature chuckle*

  • YOU JACKWAGON!!! XD

  • I wasn't a Marine, but if I had it to do over again, I would have joined up; I'd have wanted an NCO like Gunny Ermey. The Old Breed all the way... I'm proud to call this great man a fellow American. Gunny, please more episodes of "Mail Call"!

  • He is way better then John Wayne. John Wayne is a prejudiced douchebag.

  • this guy reminds me of the classic military figure you hear about. insipres me to be a marine hoorahh

  • "As soon as your bunks are done, I want you two turds to clean the head" "I want that head so sanitary and squared-away that the Virgin Mary herself would be proud to go in and take a dump."

  • I love full metal jacket, his role rocks!

  • @Ceaaa22...During the Vietnam era he was a Drill Instructor with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was given the rank of Gunnery Sergeant just a few years ago by the Marine Corps.

  • Gunny deserved an Oscar for best supporting actor, but as he wasn't really acting I guess that sadly made his performance null and void.

  • Is that you, John Wayne?
