well, I get the feeling Ted's approach to this was less of a traditional show off solo and more of a unique half song, half solo piece to serve a specific purpose on the life situation and I believe must have been quite cool seeing that live. actually reminds me very much of some excellent stuff from jeff beck. this is a kind of tune i'd listen to in my car as a piece of music not as a piece of drum solo. and enjoy it :)

(while I must admit the second half of the whole thing really was mediocre compared to what he's done on his solos before. getting old or too busy collecting butterflies I dunno, but the first part of the solo I liked, the second not so much)

very interesting observation, and you pose a good point. i supppose you're right about the good music it being and not so much as an intense drum solo.

and why not? like there are some rules about that? :) I prefer musicians do whatever they feel like. feel like adding some music to go with a solo? why not.. feel like having a guy grinding an old chevy into pieces while playing a violin solo? go for it. :)
