i suffer from bipolar disorder and the song is beautifully appropriate for the dance well done and beautifully executed for the emotions involved system of a down is also one of my favorite bands too
Um, for the haters.... just because Ariellah usually belly dances dose not mean that she cannot express herself in other ways. She is an ARTIST after all. I have met Ariellah in person and I highly doubt that she is poking fun at mental dissorders- in fact it seemed to me that she was trying to bring awareness. Gosh some people are shallow! Keep it up sweety, hope you come back to Vancouver soon <3

what the fuck?? am i like the only one that doesn't see how fucked this is?
once agian my point. Not only is she basically confirming that most goth ppl are psychotic, but the fact that she's also making theatre out of mental illness.almost poking fun @ it.And futhermore what the fuck does this have to do with belly dance?
hi guys...I feel like I need to clarify a bit....this piece was originally created to express the madness that is paranoid schizophrenia...it morphed a bit and Unmata wanted to see bi polar...I researched a little more and voila. Also this event, BMR asks that we do not entirely do belly dance. I did indeed do some shimmy and hip work mixed with a few pops and locks, but it is all black and very hard to see, but the rest is just dance expression and theatre...and a bit of madness...
@ariellah13 This was a great portrayal of "Bipolar". My husband is bipolar and I've seen some of his episodes that were none to pretty. Bravo, I enjoyed it. I am going to share this performance with him.
@ariellah13 you are amazing!!!!!!!!!! I saw you in Mexico City last year (Tribal Fest) and is one of the best memories that I have, when I took a picture with you and you just told me "it's ok!! you can touch me!!" and then you took my hand and put it on your waist, that is amazing 'cause you are not a diva like other dancers!! I admire you soo much!!
I am so amazed I can't express it. This is the just absolutely beautiful. You almost feel like you're decending into hell with her. I can only imagine what it was like to witness this live.
to those of you who do not consider this to be bellydance. if you had paid attention to the actual dance and not the music you would have noticed that she performed two types of shimmies and hip drops. as well as some tribal fusion and gothic moves. and in case you are wondering what the song has to do with the performance, the group is singing about disorder. which can be taken many different ways. theirs is about wreaking havoc. hers is about bi-polar. which is a disorder duh!
This happens to me while medicated. Its just not so bad when I'm medicated. But this touches soooo many people! I'm glad that they chose this for one of the medical conditions!

OMG how RIDICULOUS was that !!! O___O
Most pathetic display of EGO and SENSE OF RIDICULE disorder I have EVER seen..
Painful to watch......
The worst was probably the random butt shaking (especially in the beginning, really wasn't prepared for it) and the half-crouching with bum sticking out and legs spread like she was trying to pop a brownie (sorry for being crude but it WAS crude to me, that really is ALL that position suggests to me).

Wow thanks for your constructive and elaborate comment, it really got me thinking, and now, thanks to you, I have totally changed my mind... I've realized how vague and non-sensical my comment was, contrary to yours, which has convinced me so well, with its profusion of explanations, just how obviously GENIUS this EPIC and TOTALLY LEGENDARY piece of dancing was !
THANK U, MORE INTERESTING COMMENTS LIKE THIS ONE PLEASE !!!
Oh and, well done for defending your idol, sure she'll love u now..
If I had done a number representing Bipolar my approach would have been a bit different. I would have gone between be harsh and full of rage to being graceful and calm then back again. Ending it with completely losing my mind then killing myself.
That said I do not think her portrayal was inaccurate. I think she wanted to show the extremely crazy, out of control, suicidal side of Bipolar Disorder. I have yet to see another dancer who is able to portray emotions through dance so well!!!
I simply cannot get over how fantastic this performance is! Her energy, power and utter control come through the video so well, I can only imagine how wicked it would have been to see live.
And it seems more and more brilliant each time I watch it~
i'm with angeliar and to be honest have nearly got to the point that was portrayed here so it hit a very personal nerve ... ariellah is just stunning as always
This performance was so powerful. Like so many others that night, I was rendered speechless. --It was great getting to finally meet and work w/ you in Seattle last weekend, Ariellah. You were gorgeous, as always.
wow... this video brought me to tears... moving... amazing to see this put into dance... its a perfect interpretation of how so many feel... The absoute frantic freakishness of a manic high, and the plummet to deep dark depression... Its amazing how people didnt know what to think of the end. But for so many it ends that way.. Its easier to end it than live with it. beautiful and amazing work!
You know it was a powerful performance when the audience is too hit by it to applaud. Amazing dance

That was not a perfect expression of what Bipolar Disorder feels like, in my opinion.
But by the Gods, it was close.

Bipolar disease has many faucets, and many characteristics. It hits close to home for me because I was bipolar as a teen.
