  • is this in the 2004+vics too?

  • You hit almost any car in the rear at 80mph and it's going to crack its fuel tank too.

  • its a little higher

  • yep...in the crown vic and lincoln towncars there is a fuel pump cutoff switch that is engaged in case of an accident. Its similar to an airbag sensor.

Its located on the drivers side inside of the trunk on the quarter panel

  • @derbykid911 "inertia switch" (spelling?)

  • @derbykid911

    Something like that.

All you do is bypass it by connecting the two wires together and moving them inside of the car, away from doors and the trunk space.

Pretty simple, a lot of people down here in sc dont do it and are out in 2 or 3 hits lol

  • There's not a thing wrong with the Crown Vic's design. The rear end collisions were at 80 mph. Most cars would catch fire at that speed.

  • Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Town Car are the MOST DANGEROUS cars in a rear end crash. Even a Smart Car would be far safer. ALL OTHER CARS have the fuel tank in front of the rear axle for protection, Town Car, Grand Marquis, and Crown Victoria have Fuel Tank behind the Rear Axle which is INSANE.

  • i think my '91 mustang's fuel tank starts about 2 inches in front of the rear bumper, lol

but it at least has an automatic fuel-pump cut-off switch which i doubt most cars have

  • I think all fuel injected cars have a switch that cuts off the fuel flow by sensing impact, similar to an airbag.

  • That doesn't help if the gas tank is smashed into.

  • @gears2boomshield

Actually most other makes don't have one. GM's have an oil pressure cut off switch and most Japanese cars use loss of tach signal.

  • @gears2boomshield I hit a really bad pot hole in a Ford van, and then it shut off. I thought I broke something. It was scary. But once I knew the issue, it was easy to resolve.

  • insanely cool?

  • Insanely cool!

  • replace the gas tank witha racing fuel cell- that will solve the problem

  • what exactly is the RACING FUEL CELL???

  • wut r u talking about? A fuel cell is for drag racing cars, they're really small, like a gallon to reduce weight and heavily reinforced for safety in case of an accident.

  • @MoPar7055 - I think he meant design and fit a fuel cell that had the same capacity as the original tank.

  • The Crown Vic is the only production car tested to 80mph rear impact crashes. So I think they're doing something right.

  • hate to break this to you but almost every car has fuel tanks located in that spot as wheel as most trucks. the crown vic is nothing like a pinto, they are much safer.

  • @trysegai

they fixed the pinto for the final few years.(or so I am told) I have a 79 with about 70 000 miles on it. I hope it is blow up proof. I only drive it in the summer

  • thanks for uploading. ive always wanted to know where the gas tank and front/rear crush zones in a police car were! now i can sleep in peace.

  • who cares i've seen several smashed in the back no explosive impact no bang bang sorry dude its still a better car than most on the road today in driving capability and being big i hate little honda shit piles that think you cna get a 18''x18''x18'' box in the crap you can't i do try every day with no trunk space either and people that like small cars ok then buy a fucking truck to haul your shit and use it when fucking needed ok

  • the reason for that is that the car prolly had a fire sheild in that would prevent it from blowing up

  • it's like one big pinto

  • This and some other dude on Youtube are just trying to sell a product and make money off of fear. Notice how fast the cars have to be going to explode a gas tank. Also to you german car snobs who have to put your 2 cents in about how safe your cars are. No other car leaves as many helpless women stranded on the side of the road like a German auto. There are also plenty of vids of these in high speed collisions that not one passenger survives. all hype folks!

  • Sucks for whomever is in the backseat then. :P

  • Something is wrong with this diagram, the fuel tank is way above that axle back there, I have a 98 CVPI, and just worked on a 1989 CV LTD, and they both have tanks that aren't as low as portrayed here.

  • hype, as long as there is fuel on board, there is a risk of fire. Granted a tank forward of the rear axle is idea., but, you STILL have a flammable liquid on board!

Not sure you would survive a Camry or Accord getting rear ended at 70+ mph.

    Quit spreading hype josephtan1818!

  • Amen. Sick of everyone blaming the car. What car would hold up under those conditions? It's our sue-happy world we live in.

  • pinto had the same design maybe worse , anyway Ford suxxxxxxxxx !!

  • blah blah its all bullshit, the company that did those tests to show the car "blows up" had to alter the design of the car, by welding a steel pipe on the frame before the gas tank so when they rear ended it, the pipe would puncture the gas tank.

ANY car can catch on fire people!

  • See also Ford Pinto

  • interesting

  • lol
