Very good. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy excellent bass playing and this is GREAT!!! I really enjoyed it, and so did my bass player, I. O. Much. Thank you for posting!!!
Thanks for the great bass playing! Do you know if anyone has cut "s" holes in such a hollow body electric bass? Might sound pretty cool too. I like the walking you did in the video, great bounce to it!
if I can make a suggestion (though you did a great job) is that Carol used her palm to mute the strings to a thump/click sound. at any rate you hit this on the money in terms of the actual lines!
Sounds like Carol, but I have to say the guy miming in the Spiral Starecase vid seems thoroughly at home with it. And he's the grooviest dancer I ever saw with a bass!!
This is a very very short list, Carol played either guitar or bass on many artists recordings like the Beach Boys, Ray Charles, The Righteous Bros., Johnny Mathis, Nancy Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Glen Campbell, Lou Rawls, Jan & Dean, Henry Mancini, The Lettermen, Monkees, Buckinghams, Sonny & Cher, Andy Williams, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker, Frank Zappa, Wayne Newton, Herb Alpert, Hamilton Joe, Frank and Reynolds, Phil Spector, The Doors, Jimi Hendrex, Elvis, Sinatra, Grass Roots and a few Motown (LA).
Great job! You're right in your description of her gear. I've also heard her credit her "sound" to high string action and a piece of felt under the bridge.
Can you do her classic "Games People Play"? she did for Mel Torme?
She's done thousands of great bass lines, I've seen her play in person many times and she's about 1000 levels better then I can ever play. God Bless her. I'll have to really think about which one I'd try next.
the rickenbacker bass sounds great to that mccartney used but the hofner bass just had that extra something apparantly mccartney gave up recording with the hofner because of tuning problems up the neck but they fixed it up in 89 i think, by putting the bridge on a very accute angle it held the tunning i am looking to buy a hofner this year sometime not sure to get the chineese ones or the real deal i will probally get the real deal on that is made in germany
the newer Chinese made basses are also pretty good. I have the Contemporary and Icon models...the Icon actually sound slightly a bit more like it's older German brother and it goes for about 300-400 dollars.
I of course have a real German model from '82, that one has the deepest and warmest sound, though.
no, I've never had to put any other strings on this Bass, once you play one you'll realize how powerful these basses are, no wonder McCartney's used one his whole life.
Those are flatwound that came with this Hofner Bass and they really sound great, I'm just running that bass through a monitor speaker... you should hear it when I plug it into my Mesa Boogie walk about amp, it's unbelievable and powerful. hope you liked this video.
...is this 4/4 time???????

this is actually a Hofner bass, it's a 2001 version of the old one that McCartney uses.

Not bad! A little more swing to it and you've got it.
BTW I think Carol was playing bass as well.
It was a n Al Capps arrangement so there is a good chance Carol was on the date.
Good job!
