The workforce (those who actually break a sweat & die w/ broken bodies) makes up 40% of the population & controls a mere 14% of the wealth, taxed at 55% (all taxes combined). The poorest, 50%, controls only 1%. Proving exploitation is the name of the game.

I'm not sure if you realize that for the most part, these wealthy people EARN that money. People pay them.It's not just given to them because they're really cool or something.
Now, if you don't like that, you can do something about it. DON"T PAY THEM. BUY YOUR GOODS AND SERVICES SOMEWHERE ELSE. Duh. If enough people do the same, they don't get rich

@fjwjr You mean they inherit it, or in some cases they're lucky enough to come from wealthy, well-connected family that give them a huge leg-up over anyone else. People don't start from the same place in life. The system is not fair. It takes a whole society working together to provide the rich soil that allows for productive labour. All of us should benefit from that, particularly in the basics essential to a dignified and reasonable life.

@fjwjr I didn't realize illegal/gray money switching schemes designed to skirt federal banking laws was the definition of earning money. Not to mention probably at least 75% of that top 1% are legacies living off the hard work of the past. Those people didn't earn anything. Fate smiled upon their birth.

@fjwjr No matter how you twist it, taxes aren't stealing. If the upper 1% want tax breaks, maybe they can have their companies pay a larger tax on profits. Maybe they could send less money to untraceable off-shore accounts. Maybe they could actual do something with their money rather than just sit on it. Like earn a little less and pay more to the people they employ. 99.9% of the work/time/effort put into a business is by the people who are in the bottom 50% income wise, not the greedy 1%.

@snypre taxes aren't stealing, by definition they are extortion. Stealing is just taking without asking. The definition of extort as per Merriam-webster: to obtain from a person by force, intimidation, or undue or illegal power.
I've never volunteered to pay taxes, but i am told if I don't that I will be put in a cage so I pay out of being INTIMIDATED by the state using FORCE against me. That is extortion by definition.

@FriedDaisy BTW, almost 50% of wage earners don't pay any federal income tax at all. (and they are not on the upper end) And some get money given to them from the government that they didn't even earn.

@fjwjr They don't pay any federal taxes because they don't make enough money. They're poor. Many of them are retarded or crippled or mentally ill. A lot of them have seen their jobs-- jobs which allowed them to earn a living wage-- shipped out to China or India or Mexico or countries in South America or Africa where companies can get away with slavery. If we don't want to see the bodies of the poor, infirm or down trodden piling up in the streets we have to give them enough welfare to squeak by.
