I'll grant you that managing symptoms is more profitable than curing disease, but to suggest that we don't work on cures for diseases is just ignorant of reality. There is a great deal of research that goes into cures, and actually, if you're referring to "the black death" it is easily cured by just about any antibiotic now-a-days. Vaccinations, much like cures, not very profitable, but we have those too.
I quit working computers 20 yrs ago cause I knew that one day all our efforts would be put to the questionable task of enslaving and monitoring us. Here we are... almost. Thanks young, full of piss and vinegar, up and coming MIT college stoolies. You have carried on in the finest blind tradition of your creed. Don't complain when every thing you do is recorded and filed against you.
@DueCarnage We will. After the collapse, what is left of humanity will be glad to work the land and grow their own food. Good riddance. Fuck eco destructive, militaristic murdering, mass transporting machines.
@intrptr Ya, that's all fine and great until any natural disaster comes about that we can't handle and wipes us out. I'd prefer to work towards the long term future of our society and meet the challenges that new technology brings with it.
@DueCarnage Oh, I thought we were choking on the residues of our technology. PCB's, dioxins, Oil spills and smog, Radioactivity, war, etc. And now somehow we'll use our technology to clean it all up? Who is paying for that? You? Me? Corporations? Not. I need my car to run to and fro. And the Oil companies need your kids to fight for the oil for my SUV.
@intrptr You're right, far better to run from our problems than to solve them. We were probably better off when we thought disease was caused by black magic.
@DueCarnage BTW its 500 years ago now and they still haven't found a cure for that disease. They can't cure athletes foot. They're not looking for a cure. There's no money in a cure. The money is in the medicine you take for the symptoms. Thats where the money is. Problem solving of the mess we have made of our planet doesn't concern the people who are polluting it. Thats for your grandchildren to deal with. The corporate heads of state will all be dead by then. All they care about is profits.
nice invention.

Turning back the clock is not really an option.
We've always pushed forward, despite the challenges.
We're going to have to change. Can't stay the same.

Let me put it this way.
Humans = fail.
Marriage of man and machine = survive.
It's our choice what happens.

When the IBM executive said humans would be obsolete in 30 years back in about 2000, I don't think he was joking anymore.

I want a personal one of these hovering over me every where I go. To "protect" me and make sure I don't stray from the "path."
