I'm a marine. Several of my friends claim they did find WMD's in Iraq. However, the origins of those weapons were a matter of national security. So, it became better to just hide their findings than reveal the painful truth as to how Iraq obtained those weapons.
The leading theory amongst intelligence and military circles is that the WMDs in Iraq were smuggled into Syria most likley right before coalition forces started their campaign to remove the Saddam regime.

Favoring the occupation in Iraq does not make one tough on terrorism, it only gives the appearance of being so. It is detrimental for national security for us to continue to occupy that nation because it is stirring up resentment from people in neighboring countries.
Iran has many educated citizens--it would be arrogant for us to take credit for their desire for democracy. How about the demographics of the insurgents in Iraq? Many of them are foreign nationals. People are so outraged about our occupation that they are traveling to Iraq just to do harm to our soldiers. This should tell you something about what other countries think of our aggressive foreign policy.
Sounds like the arguments that were made just before the U.S. entered WWII, it was a good thing that Roosevelt was a Democrat back in the day when their party stood for something.
We were attacked before entering world war 2, and had every right to enter the battle front and defend ourselves. I have no criticisms about the way our nation handled that situation, with the exception of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I'd be careful using that kind of logic. It displays vast ignorance of islamic ideology. Just as many foreign islamic jihadists are going to Afghanistan as are going to Iraq. And they aren't going there to protect "muslim lands" but instead to force strict sharia law on the citizens of both Iraq and Afghanistan. Which not surprisingly most Iraqi and Afghan citizens are opposed to. The taliban are mostly foreign invaders as well. Most from rural Pakistan.
So the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are mostly between foreign islamic jihadist imperialists and coalition forces comprised of mostly Western countries and domestic citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. However in Iraq there a sizable portion of the native population which took part in the insurgency due to tribal, ethnic, religious and political ideology.
By the way, we've pretty much won in Iraq. We've helped to create a pretty stable and capable central government which the insurgency most likely won't be able to topple. We're losing in Afghanistan however and we need a lot more troops there ASAP according to the same extremely brilliant and competent military leaders who turned Iraq around. However the left wing Democrap Party leadership is again playing politics with national security and is against sending more troops to Afghanistan.
I don't see how you qualify as having a greater knowledge of islamic ideology than I do. We wouldn't have such an influx of foreign islamic jihadists if we weren't occupying both nations. Islamic extremism is merely the means by which these radicals are motivated to make the journey--they migrate to oppose our troops in combat. It's just a bad situation for us to be in.

This is awesome, not because it knocks Democrats, but because it holds people accountable to their statements. Bush said it right, people try to rewrite history and push all responsibility to the other side.
It has nothing to do w/ Republican/Democrat, it has everything to do with accountability. We could spend all day arguing about R/D, instead, lets focus on winning whichever side is currently holding the presidency... BOTH sides SHOULD represent ALL OF US.

It was the removal of over half the work force from the labor market into the military and the willingness to sacrifice for country in light of the wars that are far more responsible for the recovery.

We can't bury our heads in the sand with some non-interventionist policy and expect everything will be fine. That mentality assumes that if we leave everyone else alone, we will be left alone. Unfortunately, things are not that simple in the real world. The UN knew that Saddam was a threat and was doing everything he could to obtain nuclear WMDs. Your policy would be to just ignore and let him do just that, while testing chemical and biological weapons on thousands of innocent people.

I see the problem as a lack of clear goals. While not quite MISSION CREEP, hunting segments of the Taliban and Osama will not lead to AN END. What the US needs is a target. Like when Bush defeated Sadam - that was a clear Victory over that rogue Government. The pieces leftover afterwards - (even terrorist Al Queda) is totally another war - like if after we beat the nazi's, - the commies show up as gorilla fighters. That is a NEW WAR.
A new war needs a NEW target/goals.

Haven't you learned anything from our experience in Iraq? We can win a counter-insurgency effort. We can provide a stable security situation and ensure long term stability. Petraeus and McChrystal know how to do that. We just need to give them all the resources and time they need to accomplish it. All this hopeless defeatism about our mission in Afghanistan was the same in Iraq. Don't get brainwashed by the leftist media and despair. We can win. We're only fighting 20,000 islamists.

I'm a marine. Several of my friends claim they did find WMD's in Iraq. However, the origins of those weapons were a matter of national security. So, it became better to just hide their findings than reveal the painful truth as to how Iraq obtained those weapons.

The Democrats WERE right? I couldn't disagree more. The democrats supported the Iraq war because it looked good to be tough on terrorism at the time. When it became politically popular to oppose the war, they began speaking out against it. The Iraq war has been incredibly costly, not only in terms of lives and money spent, but world image. The only people I think were "right" about Iraq were those who opposed it from the beginning, like Congressman Ron Paul.

Favoring the occupation in Iraq does not make one tough on terrorism, it only gives the appearance of being so. It is detrimental for national security for us to continue to occupy that nation because it is stirring up resentment from people in neighboring countries.

Iran has many educated citizens--it would be arrogant for us to take credit for their desire for democracy. How about the demographics of the insurgents in Iraq? Many of them are foreign nationals. People are so outraged about our occupation that they are traveling to Iraq just to do harm to our soldiers. This should tell you something about what other countries think of our aggressive foreign policy.

I'd be careful using that kind of logic. It displays vast ignorance of islamic ideology. Just as many foreign islamic jihadists are going to Afghanistan as are going to Iraq. And they aren't going there to protect "muslim lands" but instead to force strict sharia law on the citizens of both Iraq and Afghanistan. Which not surprisingly most Iraqi and Afghan citizens are opposed to. The taliban are mostly foreign invaders as well. Most from rural Pakistan.

So the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are mostly between foreign islamic jihadist imperialists and coalition forces comprised of mostly Western countries and domestic citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. However in Iraq there a sizable portion of the native population which took part in the insurgency due to tribal, ethnic, religious and political ideology.

By the way, we've pretty much won in Iraq. We've helped to create a pretty stable and capable central government which the insurgency most likely won't be able to topple. We're losing in Afghanistan however and we need a lot more troops there ASAP according to the same extremely brilliant and competent military leaders who turned Iraq around. However the left wing Democrap Party leadership is again playing politics with national security and is against sending more troops to Afghanistan.

I don't see how you qualify as having a greater knowledge of islamic ideology than I do. We wouldn't have such an influx of foreign islamic jihadists if we weren't occupying both nations. Islamic extremism is merely the means by which these radicals are motivated to make the journey--they migrate to oppose our troops in combat. It's just a bad situation for us to be in.
