i appreciate this; much more because only a few minutes ago i was holding a 500 year old chunk of ice which had just broken off the glacier, and it made me start thinking of winter, in july.
so, it's nice to see the snow in your video and to think of everything frozen and still. thx 2b have a nice day.
Thanks for sharing this! It's a great poem! I liked the parts about treating the nothing as a state of consciousness. It reminds me of meditation in a way, like clearing the mind. :)
@premed2 One must have a mind of a pelican To regard the frost and the boughs Of the pine-trees crusted with snow; And have been cold a long time To behold the pelicans shagged with ice, The spruces rough in the distant glitter Of the January sun; and not to think Of any misery in the sound of the pelican, In the sound of a few pelicans, ...
That is a great poem all right. Stevens is arguably one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. A real intellect who was able to synthesize his intellectual concerns w/ great feeling in his poetry.
What an extraordinary poem, beautifully accompanied by your choice of visuals. Superb.

"Oh, a wondrous bird is the pelican!
His bill holds more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week.
But I'm darned if I know how the helican."
Dixon Lanier Merritt
(1879-1972)
Stevens' poem would be even better if it had pelicans...

@premed2
Which is the sound of the pelican
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place
For the pelican, who listens in the snow,
And, no pelican beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is, except the pelican that is not there.
No, never mind, it was better the other way.

This made me tremble with warmth,
touched the inner and melted the snow away
Thank you for uploading, appreciation is flowing.
