This man is the real deal, he truly is. His comments regarding Iran are sound, very sound. He realises that the US must co-exist in the world. Not the world having to adapt to the US. Obama is what the world wants.
Obama stands to actually cultivate international support to help with Iran and withdrawal from Iraq, whereas Bush never could. Obama's admired all over the world.
I hope Obama is real. After reading some of the incredibly ignorant negative comments about Obama, he needs to be the real deal. If he turns out to be another New World Order stooge, these ignoramuses will never let Obama supporters forget. And they will impeach him.
Peace begins within. I believe Obama demonstrates that he has inner peace. War must not be the immediate answer but always the absolute last resort. Unlike Iraq...
Its nice to see he has some sense, unlike Hilary, why should Iran not be allowed to support an elected group inside Gaza and Hezbollah which expelled Israel from an illegal occupation of Lebanon. Should the US stop supporting its allies many with a far lower moral standing when compared to Hamas and Hezbollah.
Neither Hilary Clinton nor Obama want to pull out any substantial amount of troops out of Iraq. I also think that their foreign policy towards Iran is dangerous, and they are overlooking better solutions.
Think again about attacking Iran. You wouldnt dare. Iran will be a regional super power whether you like it or not. You don't own the middle east. Mind your OWN BUSINESS for a CHANGE...
Extremely stupid to say that Iran shouldn't be able to have nuclears and that they can't help Hezbollah. America gives Israel millions of weapons including nuclears. They can hit every place in the middle-east. Iran has the right to defend against the jewish invasion of the middle-east.
I do not support the US backing Israel. In my opinion it is not right. What is done is done as far as nuclear weapons. Israel is a hostel country, and has in the past even ignored the UN. My wish is that Israel is disarmed of nuclear weapons, and the middle east can fight it out for themselves. I say fight because with out a super power, it does not seem likely peace will come. I hope the best, but at the same time I am tired of seeing a effort for a cause that looks lost. I hope I make sense.
so you are wishing for the killing of my country killing of my parents BC you are uncofterble to see the Arabs burning American flags and dpnt want to have peace. you are a great man!! a hero!! and you think we are the hostiles. learn history learn about the world. Israel will be here with or without the US. I am not so sure the US or the western world will be the same without Israel
My resolve that Obama is the best candidate has just strengthened ten fold. His speeches are speeches, but to actually hear his ideas and beliefs expressed as responses to questions is completely different. He seems far more competent than most people suppose. I haven't heard such measured sense spoken from a politician in a long, long time.
its not a slipup, he's answering a question about potensial nuclear attacks from iran. not the us's.
i dont understand how this is such a big deal though; iran would never do such a thing. it sounds like scare tactics to me. Im a bit disappointed that obama isnt exploring that part of the entire "iran is our enemy" discussion more.
why usa want to limit iran to peace use of nuclear .why usa help israel explor nuclear weapons .why usa always use double standard to treat the same thing .isreal is the main threat in middle east .i oppose usa always surpress country which not following usa .
I know it is probably a slip of tongue, but Obama says in 6:05 "And there is no doubt that we would act forcefully and appropriately on any attack against Iran, nuclear or otherwise".
The 'cowboy' acronism if pretty darn accurate and here's why. First off, we as a nation, are a nation of laws. We helped establish a structure called NATO to help establish dialogue of indifferences between the nations of different laws. NATO has established rules and guidelines which wars should be waged. George Bush Sr. went thru the proper steps with NATO in removing Iraqi military units from Kuwait. George Bush Jr. did not take the proper steps and is comparitive to the 'wild west lynch mob'
when did this interview take place? it is common knowledge now that Iran abandoned its pursuit of nuclear weapons in 2003, per the top 16 sources the U.S. government has about Iran (including the CIA). No politicians should be warmongering about Iran. They aren't a threat at all. The only terrorist recruiting going on now is because they oppose our foreign policy. They're mad because we're occupiers and we're killing their people.
Dude, Iranians aren't the same as the people of Iraq. The Iranians are Persian and the Iraqis are Arabic. They are both Muslim but but they are distinctly different.

That is something that Bush is to dim-witted to be able to do. McCain is either too old or doesn't not understand the Middle East and Hillary will say or do anything to get elected, including lying.
The latest Zogby daily tracking telephone poll shows.
The survey of likely Democratic Party primary voters shows that in North Carolina, Obama leads with 48% support, compared to 40% for Clinton and 13% either undecided or preferring someone else. In Indiana, Obama is nursing a tiny lead of two points, winning 44% support, compared to 42% for Clinton and 15% unsure or wanting someone else.
Why isn't NBC doing its job and debunking Bush's bullshit lies about Iran? I'm sick of the press running away from their responsibility as the fourth estate!
According to Hillary Clinton's middle east diplomatic "umbrella" we will engage in a potential war with Iran for attacking a country like Syria. What kind of diplomacy is that. They attack a country then we run the risk of a Pearl Harbor type situation in the middle of New York or D.C. Sen. Clinton, while running for president has said that she would obliterate Iran, and if she becomes president she will have to meet with Iranian leaders to convince them to not pursue a nuclear weapons program.
So we allow genocide to exist in Darfur, and yet not in Iraq? Why should moralities toward genocide change due to it's location. It just seems like a silly excuse to stay longer, like the U.S. actually cares if people on the other side of the world die, Yea right.
southriverrat--- i heard that too when i actually saw the interview yesterday and he definetly mispoke so don't go crazy, he did not mean to say Iran but Israel come on did yo u listen to the whole conversation? or what you wanted to hear?
Hillary says to the super delegates I can not beat Obama even with help of Bill and Chelsea. You beat him by your votes for me. I will beat McCain for you. The question is if you can not beat Obama yourselves, how do you think you can beat McCain? Perhaps with super delegates ?
Barack Obama appears to have reconsidered his pastor's, Rev Jeremiah Wright's, position (if not his rhetoric that was, frankly, OTT) and consequently is now making, IMO, more measured responses to these kinds of questions. I really do not see how some posters come to the conclusion that he would be a worse war-monger than Dubya and as for HRC's "we would obliterate Iran" - God help us all. Obama for President! LoVeandpEaceaNdnOMorewaR ~ from the UK
It also took 3 years until Saddam was executed (he was convicted in '06). We invaded in '03. This brings the total down to two years. Two. If Obama actually sincerely believes that two years is sufficient to convince an entire country that they are actually allowed to EXIST without fear of being killed by a psychotic leader, then not only do I not want him anywhere NEAR the presidency, I don't want him anywhere near congress. Maybe he needs to go back to school?
Blhack, your assumption is that the Iraqis people wants American there and welcome American occupation as a deterrane to psychotic leader - which is unfounded and wrong. A trial is not the same garnering public sentiment. What about 911, it took less than two year to convince the American people to go to war on a lie. Obviously, American do not understand the region. History of the Middle East dates back millenia, a decade of war and fighting an occupation means nothing.
here we go again, some of my coments are not welcome, there is no cursig, no profanity, no porn, just a view on what iam and others are littening too.
one thing that always makes me raise my eyebrows is when Obama won't answer a hypothetical question, giving the explanation that he refuses to accept it. If Obama isn't going to put any thought into what he would do if Iran got nuclear weapons, simply because it is too difficult a question to answer, then we have a problem here.
Obama uses the arguement that he was for his church, but not really the Pastor. News break, A Pastor is the LEADER of the church, and all the people in this church stand up an cheer to this mans comments.
mmm still sounds like he has no clue about the mess in the middle east and how to deal with it. however he is head and shoulders above his opponents. lets just see what the american public can do in a few months time, i pray they make the right decision
I wathched this entire interview. The last 50 mins were great - a man of conviction and character. The first ten - uncomfortably answering nuances about Jeremiah Wright were terrible. All Obama has to say is "This has nothing, NOTHING to do with my judgement as a potential president. It was a personal matter. He let down not just me but the entire church." That is it. NO MORE! The Republicans will hit him on this, questioning his judgement, so he has to give the correct and firm soundbites now.
The thing is, Obama's approach is nothing new. He talks about foreign policy the way Bill Clinton did, and the way McCain did, before he started running for president.
How would it be to actually have a president who is smart and articulate on such a complicated issue? I hope the American people start paying attention and appreciate what Obama is saying.
its only too bad he still considered hezbollah and hamas terrorists for defending their own countries which even the UN says is not israeli land. how many israelis have they killed?
they help more of their own people by far then they kill of the enemy, even the ones in their own land. israeli has killed more civilians then hezbollah/hamas has killed military. fact, look it up before telling me what you want to believe, links are welcome to defend yourself.
Barrack Obama has my vote. I observed this candidate for a while now, and realize that he is the best choice we have so far. Yes, i am democrat, and yes, There another candidate Hillary Clinton. But i d rather vote for McCain that for her. So many times she was cought lying, how can you possibly trus her when she is a president? Obama is a bright, intelligent fellow that i think deserves to be the president the most. And i pitty those narrow minded fools who call him a terrorist.
How about giving someone else a chance to fix our issues... being as we've already given Hillary a chance when she handled the health care and failed. People say she's been in Washington longer, but jeez she still hasn't fixed the health care.
If anyone hasn't heard of the term Cowboy used in Politics, then they have been living in a cave. This is the guy who isn't pandering, if you eat up that b.s. about gas tax holiday, and Hillary with the word obliterate... then boy are you in for some very shaky years. McCain and Hillary wont help the economy or us being safe. I am still shocked that more haven't voted for him, being that he is the wisest choice. People go on about Hillary's experience. Yet she hasn't even fixed the Healthcare.
OMG!! Obama ia amazing! Thank god our country finally has the opportunity to elect a strong leader! With an intelligent and wise commander in chief like Obama we might be safe again!
Should they attack Iran,we will not let a single American soldier walk out of Iraq alive and will turn every nook and cranny in the world a battle field against Americans and their interests.
Clinton gets a free pass on 9/11. How bout the 3am phone call, "We've got Bin Laden in out cross-hairs- what should we do?". According to Michael Scheuer [former head of CIA bin Laden unit] the Clinton Admin "abetted al Qaeda, and if the September 11 families were smart they would focus on the dereliction of Dick [Clarke], Bill [Clinton] and Sandy [Berger]"
He looks so comfortable discussing issues of importance. How sad that a man of such intelligence has been forced to spend so much of his campaign discussing flag pins and a preacher's words in a sermon. America has to tell the mainstream media we can handle intelligence.
Sometimes I start thinking that Clinton would be alright, and then she, you know, advocates starting a nuclear world war, and I get a little nervous. Just a little.
You know how when someone gets in the Pres. office, their hair starts to go grey very quickly? Am I nuts, or is Barack's hair starting to turn a little bit already??? It wouldn't surprise me, with all of the nonsense that Hillary keeps launching at him.
Fingers crossed for Tuesday, we really need this guy.
If the campaign is protracted, the resources of the State will not be equal to the strain. When your weapons are dulled, your ardor damped, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue." - Sun Tzu, The Art of War. We're seeing this statement play out with Iraq and Iran. Obama has some wise words, and good insight.
This is the kind of president we need now that our world is in such upheaval. He really put thought into what he would like to do as president not just saying anything to appease the American people and the world.
"kind of assistance that they [iran's regime] to help their people"
Senator Obama, are you out of touch with reality? The assistance that Iran's regime asked from this administration was to offer "security guarantee", so that the unelected mullahs could stay in power in an event of highly likely uprising. What are you exactly referring to? Please understand that Iran's regime spends much more of the country's wealth funding hezbollah and hamas, than actually spending on its own nation.
I can't beleive the things that come out of HIllary Clinton's mouth! "We would obliterate them." What kind of message do we send to the rest of the world (and our own children for that matter) saying things like that!
"Obliterate: remove completely from recognition or memory"
"Iran — Population: 65,397,521"
Is Hillary calling for 65 million deaths or is she just overstating her stance so she can try to scare Iran? The United States does not respond well to threats and blackmail. Why should Iran submit to our threats and blackmail?
Are we not supposed to be an example for the world? Is the US not supposed to be the beacon of democracy in the world?
This war has been a joke since the day it began seven years ago. Obama will get us out of this bullshit war while fixing our economy here in America. Four more years of a Republican or Clinton will most likely assure the end of the world in 2012. The Mayans knew one day there would be Republicans and they would end the world.
Over 6 minutes and you only take away the word cowboy in regard to GWB? Listen to the message, Obama wants to send a message that we are NOT out to dominate or OBLITERATE anyone. We are willing to help create PEACE around the world! OBAMA '08
obama, i was impressed with your delivery on meet the press with tim russert today. why, the press keeps harping on rev. wright is asinine. wright is not the issues that voters are concerned with. you are very knowledgeable about all issues. your delivery seems honest. refuse to discuss wright from now on and only deal with the issues that are important to the american people. all the world is watching you. keep up the great work. you will win.
No, he's not stupid. 'Cowboy' diplomacy is a legit political term which describes Bush's diplomatic agenda. It is evidenced by a retaliatory, barbaric and gung-ho approach. The result of this, I'm sure, speaks for itself.
I Honesty believe Tim has conspired with Hillary to press on the "Obliterate" issue, knowing he will give a sensible answer and she still benefits in painting obama as reluctant in action against Iran
Tim Russert out of ANY journalist on air or in the press, would NEVER conspire. I think it opened the door for Obama to be very articulate on what he would do with carrots and sticks. I was pleased with Obama's response.
It's a reference to the shoot first, ask questions later policies of the Bush administration. We don't need pre-emptive strikes, we need pre-emptive negotiations. No one seems to have learned the lesson of Iraq: invasion is not always the best idea. The best way to stop your neighbor from shooting your wife does not involve shooting him. You can talk things out in a way that no one gets killed and no one gets punished. Bring tthe rest of the community into the discussion to avoid bloody conflict
Wow, a foreign policy based on diplomatic relations rather than wishful thinking (The Bush Adm.). America taking responsibility on the world stage, who would've thought. Obamas a very smart man.
Well done Sir! The Rolling Stone thing was a bit of a shock but you answered it well. I also liked your response to the Ethanol question but I would like to see you come out for Hemp.
Yes, Hilary Clinton sounded very much like the Cowboy from Texas in that. I fear she was overcompensating hear, trying to assuage people's doubts that a woman could be a strong commander in chief. Obama '08!

one thing that always makes me raise my eyebrows is when Obama won't answer a hypothetical question, giving the explanation that he refuses to accept it. If Obama isn't going to put any thought into what he would do if Iran got nuclear weapons, simply because it is too difficult a question to answer, then we have a problem here.
ImperiusRex 3 years ago
I think other salvations than war can be done..
and that is something he cant take on the fly..
try explain a hypothetical problem with a solution other than force...

Obama uses the arguement that he was for his church, but not really the Pastor. News break, A Pastor is the LEADER of the church, and all the people in this church stand up an cheer to this mans comments.

I hope the American people start paying attention and appreciate what Obama is saying.

hamas is democratically elected, hezbollah works with jewish and christians in rebuilding homes and land destroyed by israel.
how are they terrorists? only because the US made them so. not by their actions. no actions that allies dont already do for sure.
waltermh111 3 years ago
its only too bad he still considered hezbollah and hamas terrorists for defending their own countries which even the UN says is not israeli land. how many israelis have they killed?
they help more of their own people by far then they kill of the enemy, even the ones in their own land. israeli has killed more civilians then hezbollah/hamas has killed military. fact, look it up before telling me what you want to believe, links are welcome to defend yourself.
waltermh111 3 years ago
Wow, that was actually a pretty good answer. Kind of good to hear what actually seems to be a thought out answer based on reality.

"obliterate them" -- Hillary Clinton
