Very much influenced by the movie title sequences Saul Bass had been doing. If you'd been dozing off in your BarcaLounger in 1961 watching your Zenith solid-state color console, this definitely would have woken you up;)
I see where Toyota is getting soooooo desperate to sell cars that they've stolen the "Jet Smooth Ride" from the '61 Chevy's to use for their new Avalon!!!! I'd take a '61 Chevy over a new Avalon any day of the week and twice on Sunday!!!!

Ew.... I could only take about 60 seconds of it and had to turn it off. Yuck... I can't believe they put that kind of crap on TV back in those days. I understand they didn't have the technology we do today, but jeeze it looks like an acid trip. lol
You just don't get abstract art. You have to get the art of the early 60s, where hardedge painting was cool. They combined it with a rather strange animation. I'd say its much cooler then current ones
the television western series BONANZA(which was telecast in color)often featured spots as the sponsor of the show, which also featured cast members like Lorne Greene, Michael Landon, Pernell Roberts, and Dan Blocker introducing a brand new Chevrolet product. FYI: Chevrolet was the sponsor of the show during its entire 14 year run on NBC from 1959 until 1973.
"THE DINAH SHORE CHEVY SHOW" (which was telecast in color) often featured two-minute spots for her sponsor, so this one was probably seen on her series as well....
Wow, this takes me back - way back! I expected Dinah Shore to sing the song, it was as much as an icon of Chevrolet as Chevrolet was of America in those days. Most interesting were the graphics. This was of course pre-CGI and was all done with film based photos through "darkroom" magic and we thought it was awesome. Nowadays it looks like kindergarten cut-outs, how times have changed. Great memories, thanks Joe!
You and David(FeetToeBandito) would get along so well, he's into cars the same as you. He once rebuilt (restored?) an old Camero or some little sports car from the sixties. He says there are so many junk yards and salvage businesses in his area that he can find a part to nearly any kind of car you could think of, so keep him in mind during your future restoration projects.
This is one of the best TV commercials I believe to have ever been made and not a word is spoken. Must have been for a "Color Spectacular" because it is a 2 minute commercial and, obviously, is in color.
Nice, "jazzy" animation style. Very modern and very retro at the same time.

This commercial makes me want to buy a Chevy more than the commercials you see on TV today 50 years later. People just don't try anymore.

@artistmac Zenith didn't make color sets in '61, and they certainly weren't solid-state....Zenith entered the color market in '62.....

Ah, former Disney animation artist Eyvind Earle... I wonder if he also did the opening for "101 Dalmatians"?

This spot was done by former Disney animation artist Eyvind Earle.

Looks very similar to the animation from Rocky and Bullwinkle. I bet there is a good chance that Jay Ward Productions did the artwork on this ad.

Loved listening to that jazzy music. I never owned a 61 (my first car was a 63 Impala). I now own 2 Subarus
